Telekom to acquire Cygal office towers

TELEKOM Malaysia Bhd, South-east Asia?s second-largest phone company, has signed an agreement to buy one of the office towers at Plaza Cygal in a deal valued as much as RM150 million.

Telekom, which has offered voluntary separation to 30,500 employees in a bid to cut down on costs, signed recently a preliminary sales and purchase agreement for the 20-storey building with a unit of Cygal Bhd, Mail Money was told.

Plaza Cygal, made up of of two office towers and a plaza, is being developed by Cygal Development Sdn Bhd, a unit of Cygal at a cost of about RM400 million.

Upon completion, Plaza Cygal, which is located in Jalan Pantai Baru, behind Menara Telekom, will have an estimated floor space in excess of 1 million square feet.

Telekom officials refused to comment, but company insiders say that it is now scouting for tenants for the office tower.

Telekom has 22 office buildings in Kuala Lumpur with a net book value of about RM1.49 billion.

Menara Telekom, which hou- ses Telekom?s headquarters, has a healthy take-up rate.

Among those who have operations there are TM Facilities Sdn Bhd, TM International Sdn Bhd and GITN Sdn Bhd. They are all units of Telekom.

R they gonna convert it as the other office tower for Telekom. Is it impossible?..a huge, tall menara telekom just near to it!! Wat is the reason they want to buy that building?

or They bought this tower, when it is completed they rent out, and get income from there??

Construction is very slow.....but the second tallest tower already nearly fully cladded :)

I can't take any pictures when driving along that stretch lah.....very dangerous :D


ANyway I always tot the project is halted but everytime I see it......it gets more 'complete'.....guess they are still going on with it but at a very very slow pace :D

Isn't the second tallest one supposed to be a hotel? That building has quite an interesting color (blue all over!)...

But have to agree that the tallest tower is being constructed very slowly... The crane on top does not even move for days on end!

Passes by those 3 half an hour ago.......got some workers installing the glass cladding on the second tower! :D

Hahaha...not really....a bit too far IMO. If you wanna see girls you better stay near Milliennium Square or Pantai where you have direct view of the dorm :D BTW Mill Sq is a residential mecca for UM students but it is a bit expensive

I realise this tower is under contruction in a very quiet manner.i've not seen any workers there but everytime it grows whenever i see it.Not a very fantastic tower.

Well, the shortest tower is now gray-blue... Following the color scheme of its taller companion nearby (TMTower)... Guess that must be the one that was bought by TM...

The hotel tower is also undergoing a change of color scheme... The upper levels were painted blue and a little yellow, but at the lower floors, scaffolding is coming up and the walls are being painted white... Is it still going to be a hotel, btw?

As for the tallest one, there is some progress already... The crane is moving like it did before and the bricks are coming up on every floor...

What is essential is a hotel, which is what one of the towers is for... Dunno whether the hotel is still going to be there or not, though...

it' near completion the last time i saw it....

TM bought over Tower 1 & 2 of Cygal Plaza and they are selling Wisma Telekom next door. They are renting out Menara Telekom to international companies while moving their own operations into the Cygal towers ;)

But the building still look uncompleted to me..

Wisma Telekom for 70 million? Buruk lah hehe but I think it'll be a smart move for a company that buys it to convert it into a residential!

Went over to Cygal Tower last week..hmmn Cygal 1 & 2 condition of building look quite run down especially when entered the car park..dark & poor lighting..traffic direction in basement terrible & pretty narrow & lot of sharp turn..Presently occupy only by Telekom Group of companies..Hmmn was told the uncomplete building (look like progress has been halt again) earmark for hotel..

any news when will this uncompleted building will be resume back??

hmm..wonder which hotel operator will it be.

Was told Cygal II will be ready by March/April..Judging from the completion of only 65% I doubt it will be ready by then..Myabe end of the year! Track record show for itself..For Cygal III..no news yet..presently totally stop work!

don't understand the status of the cygal towers. contruction looks to be completed... so why aren't they occupied yet?

Tower 1 and Tower 2 are now occupied by TM, from what i saw is that two towers are amongst the most windows lit up office buiding in KL at nite. I guess last time Tower 3 is designed as hotel.

UM is currently refurbishing Wisma UM (formerly the white box hq of TM).

Back to the topic... I realised one of the Plaza Cygal (i think the proposed hotel block) remained incomplete (you can see the cement podium while on LRT).

They are refurbishing the unused towers (plaza cygal aka menara TMs) at the moment. Drive through the sprint highway and see that they are doing renovations on the tower.

yup,exactly what most ppl thought...all they need r claddings.same material with TM tower's would do just fine.

They painted it white.... oh goodness.

This is a 5-star hotel managed by world-renowned Accor Group, but ugliest one in town!

Come on, even a 2-star Lisa De Inn looks better, and it's already considered an eyesore among the buildings surrounding the BAT Junction... :(

i think that its a failed trial of making a few buildings blend well with the TM Tower..

something wrong on the site..the interior progress take a decade to finish...after a few delayed and still nothing much different..

There is something definitely wrong with this site that affects the totality of the whole architectural schemes. I believe, the feng-shui at this corner doesn't seem to have much energy collecting from it, but in fact, its in the opposite, the energy began to collect at the corner and disappear/die.

Usually, corner constructed property should have a better energy that stored at the end. Perhaps the architectural design and approach needs to redesign and integrate it with human approach. But nonetheless, this 1 is a special case that in need of special attention to whole party.

After putting the LED on the top & bottom, now they put the similar color changing LED on the whole tower :nuts:

This area is so colorful now


And somehow there is a minor landslide happened at the Kerinchi hill .. too much developments i guess
