While I like it, I think it really needs itself a spire, or two, or a defined crown of some sort. Not sure if I've rated it yet but I'll do it again.. 8.5/10 w/one bayfront will be a 9.

I donīt understand why people are voting less then 3. I think miami is the most Beautiful city in the world. I gave a 9.5 , didnīt give a 10 because i think thereīs too many buildings, i moved from Miami in 1998 so i am not used to see soo many skycrapers all togheter in the Brickell and Downtown area. Last time i was in miami was in 2004 and i saw the demolition of the Dupont Plaza hotel, almost cry...

yeah...but all the waterfront lands are taken up with new super expensive condos..Miami has no waterfront parks for it's people...it's all about MONEY, and CORRUPTIONS...nice neighbourhood has great landscape and go bit out of the city border, it's deplorable. All these condos comin up at once...who gonna buy them? They are all uber expensive condos, even if the market crashes...they are still far from afordable. Miami infrastructure sucks and hasn't expanded and improved (recently they have a little) and public transportation...sucks!!! in pictures..Miami is perfect and damn attractive but when you look below and lift up the skirt...it's damn ugly. What makes a city attractive is balance and Miami doesn't have that! Talkin bout skyline, yes Miami skyline is quite awesome but in reality...it's not as sweet as you might think, believe me, I live here! :ohno:

I can't wait to see the skyline when all the towers are built. I gave it a 10 becuase the skyline may not be very tall, but it is very wide. You've got miles of skyline going on from Brickell to Midtown. Its a colorful and bright skyline at night. You've got a bay, a river, briges, palm trees and a beach minutes away. I'd say thats a perfect ten!

According to Wikipedia Miami has the THIRD best skyline in the USA after only New York and Chicago. Of course it's all subjective. I don't agree with everything I read in Wikipedia, either. But I must say that Miami is indeed someplace special. In my view the crystalline Aquamarine waters of Biscayne Bay, framed by gently swaying coconut palms with their feathery fronds, the Bay punctuated by tiny tropical islands is so much more beautiful than the murky leaden waters of Hong Kong's Harbor, New York's Harbor or even Chicago's Lakefront.

To those who rated Miami's skyline anything less than say a "6" ... I say: Have you ever been to Miami? Have you seen the skyline from, say, the fifteenth floor of a condo in Normandy Isles - as I have - and was astonished by the vibrant colors of turquoise skies, puffy coral pink and peach clouds, the aforementioned aquamarine waters and the emerald green trees ... focusing on the modern glassy towers reflecting in the Bay to perfection?

I live in Philadelphia. I love my city. I would not trade it for any other city. I must give credit where it is due ... and I delight in Miami - a sparkling glamorous town that makes it a world famous city and resort; clean, elegant, and so lively!:cucumber: :pepper: :banana2:

I've visited Miami nearly 6 years ago and stayed a whole week at the President Hotel near the Ocean Drive. It's just wonderful (if u ignore the cockroaches and gheckos up there). Floridian sun, girls, beach, lifestyle. Gotta love it :)

But I also had the impression that the statistics state - Miami is full of criminal energy. There had been an assault of a tiny shop right in front of where I've eaten my breakfast. And another day, some homeless apparently wanted to let burst a self tinkered bomb right next to the beach esplanade... But, nevertheless, at the end of the day I was freakin happy to spent my vacation up there.

Oh, before I forget about the skyline: My impression was, that the highrises/scrapers look quite atypical for an US-city - not to mention the word "cheap". But, somehow, it seems to work, because u find that style spread all over the city. And it has some Art Decó charme in the Miami Beach area. I used to love the way Miami looks and feels.
At least I have to give an 8/10 to the sunshine city :dance2:

#1 of design? I honestly do not know who I would give that to ( in my own opinion) but Miami? I would give Miami a 7.5 now moving up to an 8. I am totally impressed with the amount of buildings going up and at the rate they are going up. I think the skyline is looking denser and denser and it would be wonderful for the city to get those new supertalls that are approved and proposed. My question for design, however, take it any way you want but overall it's kind of boxy and bland.

Not a bad looking skyline by any means and on it's way to looking a whole lot better but it's time to step outside the box and maybe put some crowns and spires out there.

You must ov never walked in DownTown Miami...I've walkd the whole city of New York and chicago 4 days admiring their buildings but 2 me they ALL look the same. yea every city has that 1 outstanding building but those are too plain and boring for me. I Love the art deco, palm trees, Bay n Beaches that are 2 offer down here. All we need is the Friendly people the North raised, and Miami will be IT.

^i think your overbiased for a discussion on best design, although i agree that our skyline is very above avrage im not ready to say its #1....anyways i've very proud of the amount of change that our skyline has experienced....i recently looked at the first post, a picture posted by rainier meadows flash forward and that same picture is severely outdated with about 30 new towers being built there after.

Actually been there quite a bit. I have family all over South Florida. I wasn't trying to bad mouth the skyline. Not at all and infact I thought my answer was pretty fair to say the least.
I really don't know of Art Deco outside of South Beach but the City of South Beach really took that style and ran with it. The fact that you think every building in ny and chicago looks the same leads me to believe you are a complete liar and have A. Never been to either... or B. Forgot to actually look up.

I wouldn't go knocking them over a fair and generally good statement someone mentioned that may have rubbed you the wrong way. Both of those places have some of ( if not all) the best stock of skyscrapers from each era. #1 is an opinion and subjective and I completely respect that but my dude, it is quite boxy and glass is good, but work with a design other than the rectangle, cylandrical table roof. That was only an observation I made that had been said without any bad intentions. Just think it would do better with a signature tower, a break from the table roof box and some more buildings that significantly break the 700' mark.
Toss in 3 900', 6-7 800', 2-3 1000' to match the forming skyline now and I'm sold on it.
Still say 7.5 on its way up.

I think what southFLBoy is trying to say is that NY, Chicago, looks a bit on the gray, brown, and black side and Miami looks new white green and blue..

but designs? Art Deco? we must respect NY, and Chicago...After all they are the birth homes to the skyscrapers

Well said visonMIA!! I like the latest ones under constructions but the ones that are completed, condos I meant are quite a dissapointment. Miami Beach on the other hand has better designs..just my 2 cents. Capital Towers tho are great lookin duo!

Honolulu elevates it's lil' buildings and houses in the back as to make it appear dense like beautiful San Fran....

Please don't insult my intelegence Honolulu is beautiful but it's skyline cannot be compared.. I almost fell off my chair when I read that...Honolulu skyline can compete more with Mexico city..small buildings that are very spread out..

Miami really has never been a huge city. The metro is made up of three seperate metros that merged into one of 5 million. In fact prior to its mega-boom this decade, Miami's skyline was rather small. It is sooooo much more impressive than it used to be.

Still I find coastal skylines (those dominated by residential) slightly less impressive than some others. 8.5/10

I'm not trying to get into a debate about it. My whole point was to illustrate how incredible Miami's boom has been. Reguardless of the population, the skyline wasn't that big prior to the last 10 years.

Idk why but in real life it's 100 times better, in pictures it looks so so. And it looks too depressing in pictures, which is the complete OPPOSITE in real life.

Miami's skyline is famous, i see it all the time in Movies, and TV. Watch Dexter all the time and there are some good skyline flyovers in between scenes.

I give this one a 10/10 :).

well remember this the Miami thread was opened five years ago and five years ago Miami was not the Miami of today so a majority of those votes come from back then when Miami really didn't have much of a skyline.. I will tell you this and it's a fact. Since I joined SSC back in Oct. of 2006 the number of votes that were 3 or less was at 79 and now it's at 87. It was 86 since last year so a lil hater out there who voted 3 or less was the first in 2008.

I know I'm the one who puts the pictures here for a long time... what can I say I love this city and love to share it's fresh new look thats being built on paradise. and paradise I mean get on one of these towers to around the 30th floor on any sunny day at around 10am.. you'll see a glaring blue ocean that hits your face with the warmth of the sun. look at neighboring towers and see them glow from the oceans reflections. the cruise ships coming in at the ports to your left. the warm wind of the Atlantic. look down and see beautiful people at the cafe's below an people in their yachts cruising by and the green tropics of the earth. it's an amazing view.

I gave the Miami skyline an 8.5 because I know we are nowhere near finished with it. It is not complete! We have towers under construction now that have not even gone vertical yet. It has changed radically in just three years and it will change even more in the next three years. Check back at the end of 2010 to review a decade of development and new skyscraper construction, but we still won't be finished.

I used to live in Miami when I was a kid, from 1977 to 1981. I don't remember it since I was 1-4. I showed my dad some of the current pics and he had no idea what city it was. When I told him it was Miami, he couldn't believe it. If anyone has a pic from the late 70's to early 80's to contrast, that would be cool.

That one had me cracking up! But it's true! If you haven't been here in this century, the city is totally unrecognizable. Most of the change has occurred in the last three years and will continue on into the next decade. It's as if the skyline discovered warp technology! :)

According to Wikipedia Miami has the THIRD best skyline in the USA after only New York and Chicago. Of course it's all subjective. I don't agree with everything I read in Wikipedia, either.

It doesn't say third best. This is exactly what Wikipedia says:

Wikipedia:
"Overall, Miami's skyline is ranked first in the Southeast and third in the United States, after New York City and Chicago. By 2010, Miami is expected to have one of largest skylines in the world. Of the 10 tallest buildings in the city, 2 were constructed in 2007, 6 in 2008, 2 in the 1980's and 1 in 2003. In addition, only 5 of the city's 25 tallest buildings were completed before the year 2000."

This is based on the number of tall buildings which have made it to construction thus far, so it's not subjective. It's actually a statistical fact.

10/10 Miami's skyline is world famous. You see it constantly in movies, TV and the media and it continues to get taller and bigger. I don't understand how anyone could give Miami less than 3!

I gave it a 9. It resembles a lot of Latin American cities in that there are lots of buildings, but not enough distinctive ones.

i think youre right, it does have that latin american feel to it mixed in with the american style, the only disticntive buildings is the Wachovia financial center and Bank of America tower, thou them 2 are being overpassed by some new construction

There should really be a new Miami thread. They have built WAAAYYY too many new buildings in the last few years from the start of this thread to be relevant. The votes tilt too low, IMO because of this.

Miami has an awesome skyline....though I do believe it is lacking a signature landmark, maybe a supertall office building that stands out (not the typical white concrete and glass w / balcony that you see so much out there)..

GREAT SKYLINE....just missing a supertall to crown it.
