7.5/10
DaninTO January 1st, 2003, 11:21 PM I've seen more recent pictures of Miami, and I have been more impressed with them. So I will give it an 8/10
X-seed 4000 January 2nd, 2003, 03:37 AM Pro: Nice height, I really like the architecture. And I love the night shots!
Con: IMO it has a lot of buildings that look too much a like.
Overall: 8.0/10
SeeMacau January 2nd, 2003, 03:43 AM 8/10
Not Bad!!
Jeff from Winnipeg January 2nd, 2003, 03:45 AM I really like the BoA building in this city. But the skyline ain't outstanding. ->7/10

Nice tower
CTroyMathis January 2nd, 2003, 04:38 AM I like Miami, always have. 8!
Hacksaw January 2nd, 2003, 05:34 AM Nice height, but too many buildings look the same.
Love the night shots!
8/10
SUNNI January 2nd, 2003, 07:32 AM few skyscrapers, but enough to make it an effective skyline...

enzo January 11th, 2003, 12:38 AM Having spent much time in Miami I can say it's difficult to photograph the entirety of the skyline because it also spreads east of DT to the barrier islands of Miami Beach. Downtown combined with Miami Beach is quite impressive although not terribly tall.;)
Here's some shots of Miami Beach....

Bobdreamz January 12th, 2003, 06:31 AM of course I'm going to be biased since this is my hometown....Miami's skyline is everchanging...the city currently has 40+ skyscrapers under construction/approved or proposed now...the most construction going on in the US after New York & Chicago in my opinion...the city is booming!!
here is a pic from Wil in Chicago who came for a visit....
realize the tall building on the left is the Four Seasons and the tallest on the right is the Wachovia Bank..both near 800 ft./242m..the big gap in the right is where the Miami River empties into our bay..

giallo January 13th, 2003, 07:37 PM I think I would love the city but I don't love the skyline. The few office towers they have are nice though. 6.0
falco January 14th, 2003, 08:45 PM I don't like those white condos, 7/10
Pablo January 18th, 2003, 08:32 AM 6.5/10 very nice;)
renell January 18th, 2003, 09:39 PM with the exception of some good looking scrapers, its like an typical skyline full of boxes. 6.5 for having some exceptional buildings and also being on a beach.
SydneyDude January 20th, 2003, 12:31 AM nice city- always reminds me of Australias Gold Coast but with taller buildings- not for much longer though!
I love the whole beach-side city thing. Id love to visit Miami one day.
8/10
DrumCorpsAlum February 25th, 2003, 05:10 PM I like. It's enhanced by the water, as well as the bridges. It could be just a little more compact IMO. 7.5/10.
JacobRit February 25th, 2003, 05:49 PM wow it is just like GTA vice city!
ganjavih February 25th, 2003, 07:11 PM It's OK... 7/10

Wu-Gambino April 19th, 2003, 12:11 AM The Wachovia Financial Center is the greatest! 8
TropicalSQ744 April 20th, 2003, 09:01 PM Well spread out but not too well proportioned :bash: But it still looks good and is well defined too ;)
And hey, I love skylines next to water! :D
8/10
TommyTOM2 April 23rd, 2003, 01:33 AM 7,5/10
Gluehuffer136 April 27th, 2003, 09:32 AM I give it an 8.5 The pics that are used in this thread are maaaad dated! None show our new tallest, the 4 Seasons! But then again the Miami metro area is just springing up highrises like a rash!
Its true that the skyline is really spread out, but now development is taking an approach of infill. The skyline of the not to distant future (2~3 years) will show this... especially along Brickell blvd!
And plans for I think an 82 storey office tower in the CBD? If that happens then the Wachovia will be dwarfed! But we'll have to see with how the economy is going.
The skyline is great now, but flawed. Wait and see the Miami skyline in the future! If the current crop of building shows anything... it should be crazyness from here on in!:D
twister April 30th, 2003, 07:08 PM I was in Miami a few months back, (lived there for 5 years up until late 1999) and saw the Four Seasons and the Espiruto Santo nearing completion. These two towers are incredibly beautiful!! They really boost Miami's skyline. One must see them appreciate fully Miami's skyline. What Miami needs IMO is new highrises in the CBD which really haven't had any office towers built there in a long time. Also, Brickell area could use more depth. I'm sure this is going to change since there are so many new projects breaking ground there. Right now I'd give it an 8.5.
coldstar May 9th, 2003, 09:33 PM 8/10 superb bridges as well as scrapers.
alex3000 May 10th, 2003, 07:00 AM 8.5/10
sucio June 9th, 2003, 08:46 PM maybe if pictures would have been shown from this decade people would change their minds..
Big Rick McGee June 10th, 2003, 06:45 AM I gave Miami a 6.5, but throw in Miami Beach and the Metro's skyline would rate 2 points higher.
I love the views from the bridge. Being able to see multiple skylines at once does something for me.
BG918 June 11th, 2003, 08:24 PM The greatest up-and-coming skyline in America! Pretty good for the size of Miami right now with some nice "tropical" and modern looking scrapers, kinda boxy though, and decent density downtown. But there are so many new towers either under construction or proposed that I see Miami having one of the top skylines in the U.S. in a matter of time. Awesome natural setting next to the bay, and there's a cool monorail that winds its way through downtown. 9/10
Evergrey June 12th, 2003, 01:15 AM 6
I don't really care for Miami's skyline... though there are a couple nice new skyscrapers... but most of it looks rather boxy.,.. I don't really care for the "tropical" architecture.
pwright1 July 1st, 2003, 07:46 AM Love it. 9
fox1 July 1st, 2003, 08:30 AM i've seen great pictures of miami's skyline.

JorgeR November 5th, 2003, 04:26 AM Miami skyline it's one of the best in USA on my opinion, they just aproved a 280 m new tower, the skyline is changing constantly, plus the bridges and the blue water , what else do you want???, pixs are old and they don't show the skyline at its best AT NIGHT from the Key Biscayne bridge. I'll give it a 9/10

dave8721 September 2nd, 2004, 08:29 PM The question with Miami is always which skyline are you talking about. There are several in the Miami area. The Sunny Isles/Aventura area has about 100 buildings over 15 stories (with 3 500-footers), Miami Beach has over 100 (with a few 500 footers), Coral Gables has about 25-30 highrises, and Miami itself has like 400. In all Miami-Dade County has almost 1000 buldings over 10 stories. Here is a pic showing the extent of downtown miami. Still, the skyline extends out of the picture to the north (left) quite a bit.

Jules September 2nd, 2004, 11:31 PM Florida's best. 8.5.
Ashram September 3rd, 2004, 03:31 AM 8/10 It's a little spread out, but it's still a nice big skyline.
Shafick September 4th, 2004, 10:44 AM MIAMI is great...but many "worms" live in this beauty city.
:)
JRQ September 20th, 2004, 04:12 AM Wish it was bigger, but I give it a 10; LOVE the night colors, and it is actually very dense.
David3820 September 20th, 2004, 04:18 AM It looks nice but I think that it needs to mature a lot more with more skyscrapers filling in the pockets. 6.5/10

the_1_and_only_cuban November 6th, 2004, 12:01 AM I may be a bit biased but its a 10 in my heart. Especially for a city with a 1000 ft. FAA height limit (because of nearby airport) in the CBD (except for about three blocks), Brickell, Midtown/Design District, and Beaches where all the vertical development is taking place, I think it does extremely well..
There are many new developments taking place also, and I'll see what I can do about getting some of the Miamians to post renderings...

MattSal February 23rd, 2005, 06:21 AM The Miami skyline is great now (9/10), but just imagine what it will be like in 20 years, especially at its current rate of growth! To me, this photo really shows what Miami is all about:

Jaybird April 15th, 2005, 03:57 AM 8.5/10, although it is a beach, looks to be a considerable amount of office towers and it is the skyline of all skylines in Florida, IMO.

No Mercy October 3rd, 2005, 03:09 PM It has enough attitude, and more spacious areas, but heck, it's Miami, more popular with the beaches and some famous areas in which celebrities hang out more so than Los Angeles and Virginia. Miami has a very hot skyline with tall enough buildings that makes the area what it is. I can't say wrong, but somehow, this city is the most favourite. 8/10.
Displaced Miami Man November 19th, 2005, 05:02 AM Take that picture again in a few years when the majority of the new buildings will have their height and damn, this is going to be one fine skyline to look at! The gaps will be filled in, more height, and more density. I think if this poll is still around in that time the people that thought lowly of the city will be very surprised!

TC03 February 9th, 2006, 12:02 AM Miami rocks!
Miami as in Perfect February 17th, 2006, 02:36 AM yes, miami does rock. my only thing to say is that wait until 2009; after our BILLION skyscrapers have completed construction. common talk throughout SSC is that miami will place within the top 10 in the world in a mere 3 years, due to the amount of construction. it is insane. probably the most out of any american city, im pretty sure it is. in fact, in three years, counting approved, u/c, and proposed, miami will be TWO towers shy of chicago. beat that L.A! (well, you probably will . . . but miami is still better. lol)
Paul305 April 6th, 2006, 08:42 AM Miami and Miami Beach are technically two separate cities but, for the sake of this thread, I am going to lump them together along with some of the municipalities of Miami and Miami Beach. If you look at the horizon of the picture below you can see Miami Beach to the East. Anyways, here are some pics of Miami's many skyscrapers.

FREKI April 6th, 2006, 08:47 AM One of my absolute favorite places on the planet - I'll be coming there for the rest of my life!
I nomally go there every year, but this year I had to cancel because I got a new job :sleepy:
But I'll be back 11 months from now
Great pictures btw!
Tom Ace April 6th, 2006, 09:30 AM I gave it a 7.
Pluses were - height of buildings, number of highrises, and density. Also the location on the water.
Minus were - I like boxes, but just too many. I also don't think Miami has buildings that really stand out for their individual beauty. And lastly the colors of the buildings, to me they just look to drab (for lack of a better word). I realize alot of tourist industry beach cities look like this but I don't like that look.

Leeigh January 23rd, 2007, 01:26 AM Miami skyline has changed a lot especially the past 4 or 5 years but unfortunately at ground level, not a whole lot has been imroved...transportation system still sucks, metrorail for all these years just one line!! and has not extended, the airport tho has gone massive expansion with a transportation hub...but where's the damn track that goes to the airport?? Miami beach tho has improved tremendously but has gotten to be very expensive to live...Miami need to build more highways and expand the ones that it has, traffic has gotten unbearable..especially with a major boom in residentil towers being built simultaneously...ah yea...EXPENSIVE ones that most Miamiams can't afford....who the heck are buying them??? I think Miami is booming at the seams but none or very little done to aid the rapid development...soon the city will be congestive and quite unpleasant to live...a shame.
Politic in Miami just shit, really unfortunate that Miami is run by goons that are corrupted, not a day go by with no news bout politicians embezzling money. Another thing...I'm not being racist or to discriminate anyone...ya know what it takes to make it into politics in Miami...be hispanic, then you have a better chance.
Bobdreamz January 23rd, 2007, 02:14 PM ^ boy what a sorry post...obviously English isn't your first language either or other than that you don't know how to write so I wouldn't be complaining about hispanics since they make up about 60% of the population!
Metrorail will take years to expand & as for new highways and expansion tell me where Miami is going to build them???? The area has no room to build anymore that's why so many highrises are being built.

you're talkin to me? where to build highways...are you telling me that this is IT??!! no more highways for Miami and just continue building residential highrises and ignore the need for better highways and transportation system to help cater the growing community? very smart....yea got space to build highrises but no room for highways...and metrorail, gonna take YEARS??? are you kidding me?
bout my english...it might not be perfect but I ain't stupid.
as your comment to a 'sorry post' why...truth hurts? wake up and smell the coffee buddy...
:ohno:
MMH February 18th, 2007, 10:58 AM There really is no space to build a new highway in the metro area. local goverment can only widen the roads more and extend some of the existing ones. a while back they were gonna build one but it wouldve cut right in the middle of neighborhoods and you wouldve had to destroy existing buildings.
As for highrises of coarse theres gonna be plenty of empty lots and parking lots to build buildings on!
krull February 18th, 2007, 09:13 PM The skyline is looking fine. I can't wait to see it again 5 years from now. 8.5/10
robituss February 19th, 2007, 12:52 AM Miami is scary with so many tall buildings being constructed, it used to be sparse. Now its like downtown is one big construction site. Miami has a ways to go before having a world class skyline, and the 1200' twin towers would have been nice to bring it up there.
I give it a 8.5 for now, but want to see what it will be like when all the new construction is done.

how bout building double deckers? or improve public transportations? Downtown Miami is moving fast and I don't think the city has the capacity and enough infrastructure to support it..I see a property crash and major disaster...who could afford those 50 storey high end condos? I used to live on Brickell key, forget the rent, building maintenance alone was 650 bucks amonth...and they're askin almost a mill for a tiny 2/2 with poor outfit.

ElVoltageDR March 12th, 2007, 11:59 PM 8.5. A few years ago I would have agreed with people who said it was kinda boring. Now Miami is getting... taller and denser. With a few more 'artful' towers I can see Miami really getting out there in terms of top skylines in the US.

why can't you respect other people's opinions? I bet he/she isn't jelouse. The truth is, I don't really like the skyline too much right now, but I think in the not too distant future , it will get very good. 7/10

kevin22 March 15th, 2007, 07:24 PM ^^ well mabey he just likes them more, not that hard to belive
First of all how cant you like Orlando better i mean orlando is a piece of shet compare to Miami
What in the world is he thinking when he says that orlando is better than miami.
this is what i think: i think what he does not like about miami is that miami is such a popular city and is becoming even better and better while tampa and orlando stay the same maybe go up a bit but something that they will never reach is the popularity of miami.
end of discusion. case close!!!!!!! LOL

I understand that people may not think its the best but wow, there are almost as many 3's as there are 10's. Sorry for the rant but it just grabbed my attention.
Mickeebee March 24th, 2007, 02:24 PM nice city- always reminds me of Australias Gold Coast but with taller buildings- not for much longer though!
I love the whole beach-side city thing. Id love to visit Miami one day.

people are like that they are bad and evil so thats why they vote for such low numbers they provably had a bad experienced in miami and thats why they think the atmosphere is bad or the skyscrapers but they dont really give a shet about the skyscrapers they just put whatever they think it deserves as a city.
PeterSmith March 26th, 2007, 04:12 PM ^^ Perhaps Miami's skyline is representative of the city in general, you either love it or you hate it. I'm not at all surprised. There are just as many people living here that hate Miami as there are that love it, if not more! Nevertheless, it's a good skyline, in my opinion. It's greatest flaw, I think, and perhaps the reason many people gave it a low score, is that it's very spread out and only one building deep in most places. Density is a key ingredient in a skyline, and one that Miami has not achieved...yet....

theDirector April 16th, 2007, 10:39 PM I was born and raised in Miami so I'll give it a 7.5/10. The skyline is getting there. But it is not there yet. And at 7p.m. the life of downtown is that of a cemetery. But it has gotten better in past couple of years. It needs more though...

what? have u seen how many buildings actually surround the downtown area?
miami beach, aventura, sunny isles, and all around the city of miami we are surrounded by buildings, btw is that the only area u went because the miami metro area is gigantic and full of buildings, all of miami-dade county is included in "MIAMI" so u have to rate all cities surrounding miami except fort laurdele, and west palm beach.

VisionMIA May 31st, 2007, 03:35 AM Kevin I think the reason there are a lot of low numbers in the city rating is the fact the Miami has grown so rapidly and the skyline literally doubled in the last five years. kind of creates an envy.. other cities in the country do wish they could grow as fast.. and you can't blame them... It has surpassed most cities in the U.S. becoming the third largest skyline in the country according to the 2006 almanac of architecture and design. I never cared for our skyline two years ago...I loved my birthtown NYC.. and Chicago's skyline I still love. but seeing what Miami has done has made me love our skyline and just waiting to see what will happen next is truly amazing. To me Miami is looking like a Chicago with palm trees. More colorful too! It's just fresher looking..maybe cause all these buildings are so new... You look at other cities in Miami like Aventura, Sunny Isles, Bal Harbor, or even Coral Gables..We are a city of condos. If you don't like condos then pretty much you won't like our skyline.. Afterall we are in Florida and I'm sure most people wouldn't mind living on a 40th floor having the sun wake them up rising from the nice ocean view..It's what people come down here for.. A piece of tropical paradise.. In Florida I think you will always have more Condos than Offices.. Miami is more for PLAY not work and we all know that! ya feel me! 10/10

Miami
we have no more land to build homes, and as long as people keep moving down here the only way now is to go up!
icracked May 31st, 2007, 03:55 AM ^^ Anti-America fad is also high online these days you know, which helped contribute to the negative votes. Honestly, there is absolutely no way Miami should receive a score 3 or below. The city looks better/cleaner than 90% of cities posted on this forum.

i agree, i dont think there a lot of cities in the US that look so clean like miami.
Rizzato June 3rd, 2007, 06:57 PM Miami is definitly a beautfiul, scenic place, but to say other cities dont look as clean is probably biased. ever been to Long Beach? Seattle? San Diego?
