Nice pics! Reval Hotel Latvia looks somehow massive, which ain`t a bad thing. Riga new railway station looks nice. I just started to feel that I`d like to spend a nice day in Riga and escape from daily problems ;).

Me, my wife and small Paula are just beyond that corner to the left, some 15 meters behind it!!! Last Sunday we dedided to take a walk in the Old Town. I managed to make some 20 pictures but it was too cold for Iveta and Paula, so we went home. We were "packing" the child in the car when these soldiers appeared.

Should I post my pictures - may be you are on them???

What an amazing coincidence!

And of course ... I for one would just love to see your pictures, Gati!

P.S. @endavant: how did you get from HKI to Riga? Is there a ferry connection? :)

Gatis
March 3rd, 2005, 11:47 PM
No :( I looked through my pictures from that day - no people on them. That's my way of photographing - I concentrate on buildings very much.
-
During our walk we noticed some young foreigners and said each to other - "Poor tourists, they have choosen the worst possible time of the year to come!" :) And went back to our warm apartment 1.5 km away, on the other coast of Daugava.

@Whose Homepage, wait just some time - I will make a new thread with some 25 my recent pictures. I spent some time selecting and resizing them, now I am uploading them.
Unfortunately I do not have @endevant! on them - there was only one old Russian women (Russian - judging by the dress - no offence, dress is OK, just there is a way to distinguish them) on the pictures, this could not be our Finnish forumer.

Not right now, as far as I know. Both Finnair and Ryanair fly to Riga, although latter operates from Tampere.

@ endavant!
I hope the winter of Helsinki hasn't been to harsh, it can get damn depressing sometimes. Trust me, things will look better in a month or so. :) Where are you staying here?

hehe, what a coincidence!! I bet me and my friends were those young foreigners you saw :tongue2: By the way, i'm totally agree with you. Winter is not the best time to visit a northern european city, but i'm leaving to Spain next May and I still have to make more trips around Baltics and Escandinavia :)

P.S. @endavant: how did you get from HKI to Riga? Is there a ferry connection? :)

Oberleutnant is right, best (and cheapest) way to get to Riga from Finland is flying from Tampere with Ryanair, but we tried to book too late our tickets and the prices were not so low then...we went to Tallin by ferry and there we took a coach. It was a long journey but we had fun :D

First month it was quite depressing but now, although it's being colder than in January, at least we have more light and...sunny days! :) Believe me, i was expecting it U_U

ps: I live in Kannelmäki, very close to railway station

LOL, my parents live in Kannelmäki, in that new apartment building opposite to the railway station. Last week I saw a group of South European guys waiting for a train. Don't remember what day, but it was in the afternoon. Any other exchange students from Spain with you?

This is just bizarre. You "met" Gatis and I've probably seen you . . . If not this week, no doubt earlier some day. We might've used the same train, or you might've seen me walking my parent's dog.

Anyhow, Kannelmäki is hardly a good-looking or calm neighbourhood, but hopefully it's been ok for you. :) I seriously hope spring arrives soon before you leave in May, so that we can prove you that it DOES get warm here. ;) Sometimes.

You were studying Communications at the university, weren't you? If so, you probably know, or have met some people I know who study that subject there. This is so bizarre. World is a small place.

What are the odds that three of us register to SSC, you visit Riga that moment, happen to encounter Gatis, happen to get a place from Kannelmäki where my parents live, happen to (probably) encounter me, etc? :D

Were u in dtm last night? :D lol
