Both designs are good. Somehow spires are a little bit hackneyed as nowadays when they are used everywhere. But i dont know about the situation in Chongqing. Simple and good looking though.

JW Marriott hotel has already been built in 1999,its the smaller tower aside,this 398m tower is just a office tower, marriott only pay far less than half ,and after its finished,marriott will be in charge of the service management ,his partner which in fact can be considered as the owner of this project is from Beijing ,Hua Xi Real Estate who hasnt thrown millions to built a mega project for its own "A Class City",beijing

the old design was boring, the new design is boring + ugly. at least it's quite high. but chongqing deserves something better.

^^ Mixed use. The black version with te stick is the 398m, 80 floor design. We haven't seen the 100+ floor plan yet.

Imo the 398m cladding was stunning, only the stick made it ugly.

From left to right...

The twins with the skybridge are the main towers of ASE Center. 428m, 293m, 193m, 201m, 234m. Heights might be taller as we don't think they include the crowns.

A building that got way better with every redesign. This is going to look outstanding - that render with all the towers together blew my mind. I'm a huge fan of this one's shape which reminds be of a regal older-style building yet with a modern facade. When they get all of these buildings built Chongqing will definitely have one of the greatest skylines.

Chongqing is really impressive to me.

That area will be almost "too" dense after these constructions end. I prefer a more Pudong like plan over this.

I didnt even know this was on-hold. Since when, for how long and what is the likelihood of this going ahead? Disappointing as I always felt this would be Chongqing's centrepiece.

The project has been revised upwards many, many times. 168m to 276m, 298m, 335m, 339m, 330m, 320m, 357m, 375m, 377m, 398m and finally 431m. The first proposal is very old, I don't know how old, but probably close to 10 years.

They built a steel podium at first, but it was demolished after one of the revisions. Actually I think they have demolished the lower floors for two times already, and maybe they will have to do it again since the current structure was built when the project was supposed to be just 357m.

Construction resumption has been rumored to be "coming soon" all the time, but it has showed no progress in several years (since 2006 or so I think). Now it's been purchased by another developer (Bloomage, a biotech conglomerate) and it'll be displayed at a supertall summit in Shanghai in late March. New design? Maybe. Upwards revision? Probably, since there's a height race in Chongqing with another two contestants currently at 468 and 486m. There're other plots around the city expecting 400m+ projects, but they are too unclear. Besides, this project is in one of the best plots of Chongqing, so it WILL be built soon or late. The only questions are when and how tall will it be.

This is just depressing, this being on hold indefinitely and the sun valley project getting a height decrease. Z0rg, are the authorities/planners coming to the realisation that they maybe wont be able to build all of these supertalls?

^^ The CQIFC has been purchased by a new developer (Bloomage Biotech) and they'll probably resize it, but it doesn't mean it will be shorter. Who knows, maybe they'll revise upwards once again, or maybe they'll build a sad 200m midrise. Soon or late they'll build it, that's sure. This project has one of the best plots in town.

About the Sun Valley, it's still under designing.

There's something about this proposal I really like. At first glance you'd think it was rather plain, but it's setbacks and elegance make for a great building, IMO. You don't need to go wacky to have a fantastic centerpiece. Fingers crossed for this one.

Good point, they could be preparing for demolition, but I sincerely hope that they build up from where it is. :)

Actually, Chongqing needs a landmark, not supertalls. All of its skyscrapers lacks creativity, it seems as if Chongqing gets all the second-hand projects no other cities wants.

It kinda makes the city special. A modern second-hand area. Gnarly. :cheers:

Yes, I am still waiting for that final proposal to come out for the area at the tip of the peninsula, I think it will be the 'landmark' structure for chongqing. i mean if they built a TV tower like oriental pearl in that location, then it would certainly look good, however, it may look similar to pudong. Yeah, they just need something attractive there for it to stand out. Once it stands out, then the two art buildings on the other side of the river will become landmarks and so will the bridge, the world's longest arch. Until then, its just another 'Chinese city' i guess

But they do need a supertall. Something very tall and innovative similar to the Shanghai Tower in Shanghai, or the Dynamix Balwas Tower in Mumbai. They lost one of their best chances when they cancelled the first approval of Urban Forest which would have been a decent ~400m or so. :(

Yes, unfortunately, both the old and new designs have a Chicago feeling. I don't like it at all. However, given the density and arrangement of the CBD, we can't expect them to build Jin Mao's or SWFCs. It would be a real shame for those gems to be jammed in between the bunch.
