how do you define "art deco"?

Actually I wasnt sure myself and I had no clue when I came on the forum LOL
the only art-deco buildings I knew were Chrysler & Empire State.
From looking at examples others posted, I'd say art-deco is defined by clean sharp lines and less ornamentation than neo-classical styles. But I could be wrong ^^

actually that's what i thought, that's why i believe buildings in bund are also art deco, they are the same style, but i have no idea why those indonesian buildings are art deco.

Miami Beach is considered the Art Deco capital of the world. I read somewhere that Mumbai is considered to have the second largest number of art deco buildings. Though I don't know if that is a fact or an exaggeration.
The difference between Miami's and Mumbai's buildings of course is the maintenance part.
Here's a section from TIFR's Mumbai guid [not updated for a long time]
"In the 1930's many of Bombay's buildings were constructed in the Art Deco style. In fact, the whole frontage on the west of Oval Maidan, terminated by the Eros Cinema on the North, is Art Deco. Other famous buildings are the Regal and Metro cinemas"
I will post some pics later...
Here is Eros Cinema!
