here from athens news....

Rescue services, including the army and fire brigade, battled to evacuate some 300 people from homes in Thrace as the Evros River burst its banks yesterday for the second time in two weeks, flooding some

No injuries were reported as the river overflowed into the village of Lavara, flooding 25 homes.

Most residents had been evacuated by the time the Evros burst through a flood barrier, but a rescue operation was needed to save two elderly women who were trapped by the flood waters. Authorities also helped residents move their animals and household property to safety. Inhabitants of nearby villages began to abandon their homes as well.

Some 27 soldiers and nine army vehicles helped in the effort to evacuate Lavara, while military chiefs put eight companies of 87 men each on standby in case the flooding worsened. Water had also covered the train tracks in Lavara, suspending the service. Meanwhile, some 800 hectares of farmland near the village of Vyssa were also flooded.

Authorities were already on alert yesterday as the depth of the Evros had reached its highest level for over 100 years on Tuesday, swollen by heavy rain and snowfall. At Pythion, north of Didymoteicho, the river had risen to 6.60 meters, whereas its emergency level is 5.70 meters

^Evros if I remember correctly is the Bulgarian river Maritsa, right? I personally think Evros is a better name for it, since it is part of the Orpheus myth, but that's another story.
I hate floods, it ruins everything in its path, and then you need to clean all the debris and mud... well let's hope the fatalities keep low.
btw, my best guess is that it's because of all the recent snowstorms in Bulgaria, it's the same around Varna where I'm from, the Kamchya has been rising up too.

Yes very dangerous situation.....

Very tragic, but it's good no serious injuries!! Material things you can always have back.... but lives you cannot. Although in many ways their lives are destroyed. :(

Turks Vexed at Bulgaria over River Spill
Turkey's opposition leader has insisted for Bulgaria to pay damages over its spilled rivers, the state Bulgarian News Agency BTA said Saturday.

Over the last week, melting snow has caused several Bulgarian rivers to overflow. That has affected not only local areas, but also some border regions in Greece and Turkey.

Deniz Baykal, the most outstanding opposition figure in Turkey, wanted Bulgaria to pay damages over floods in the Edirne district, BTA reported.

The Greek district of Evros has also suffered from the inundation over the past week.

Meanwhile, Bulgarian flood control services warned that water levels were likely to grow even further overnight. The Struma, Mesta, Yantra, Lom and Tundzha rivers are most likely to spill this weekend, according to the reports.

Officials advised people not to get too to close to river or dam banks.
