Ah, Buffalo's nightlife capital. The architecture is very nice there, and a lot of it is newly-built or restored looking as well. I like the shots taking before sunset as well. I love Prima Pizza Pasta, ate there once before a Sabres game.

Its an amazing area to have most of the bars concentrated into a district such as Chippew. Many much larger cities wish they had something similar. I wish the vacant lots would fill in: two corners at Pearl and Franklin and the parking lots up Franklin to Tupper. Just don't put up more trash like Soho! :bash:

The thing with Buff is that this is not the only concentration of entertainment in the city. There are large concentrations of restarants, bars and theaters all along Allen, Elmwood, Delaware and Hertel not to mention the typical neighborhood joints all over the place

Very nice photos!

My office is on Chippewa. In October 2004, I was shooting some film outside the federal building (the building in your first shot) and a security guard ran up to me and wanted to know what I was doing. It took me about 2 minutes to convince him I was just snapping some shots. He told me it's now against the law to take photos of federal facilities. It was a creepy reminder that the world is a strange place sometimes.

lol, those Federal clowns are dumb...

One night in December I was out there with a friend of mine shooting the new Niagara Center and this Barney Fife looking charactor walks up to my friend and says "You cant take photos of that building", I walked over and said yes he can, it's not a GSA building. The guard who now felt threatened told us to have some IDs out, I refused and he called for backup...they arrived and happened to be more confused than the original responder. After a 10 minute conversation about anti-terror efforts...these two clowns supervisor shows up and sadly announces that the Niagara Center was infact a private property and not GSA, therefor nothing can actually be done about photos. I continued to walk away, and the original guard felt so bad he started to question me on why I didnt want to provide him with an ID...I just laughed.

Ugh, that sounds like a drag.

My big fear was that he was going to try to take my camera or film. The weird part is that I shoot pictures all the time in, around and on top of the building where I work, which also contains federal offices (though it's very small, only 3 or 4 people) and nobody has ever said a word about it.

Say, this is off topic but I hope the Harley convention comes back this year. I got some really nice shots (or so I thought!) but none of them came out very well.

re: "lol, those Federal clowns are dumb..."

Yeah, except they're not Federal employees. Those guys that routinely walk around the perimeter of the building are contracted from a private company, Wackenhut. The Federal Protective Service (FPS) or "the Federal Police" only show up under extreme circumstances, and the situation you're describing isn't what I'm talking about. You would have had to threaten an act of terrorism in a more explicit manner than taking a picture before you'd get the "Federal clowns" there.

actually, I had one Buffalo "special police" officer there (he was "special"), one Wacknut rent-a-cop and also a Federal GSA officer, plus they had the FBI surviellence camera on us the whole time...I think they over-reacted and felt dumb.

What really pissed them off was when I said there are hundered of photos of Dulski, the Fed Reserve and the INS building online...search Google.

it was funny, simply because I have been involved in force protection and government security before, but I guarded an Aircraft Carrier.

...a deserted Chippewa St about 7pm on a Friday night...of course, not many Friday nights fall on Christmas Eve and get ten inches of snow.

You should've taken his picture and then said, "muhahahahahaha, now I've stolen your soul...muhahahahha!"

Have you ever been to a strip Club in Buffalo? Ive seen more skin in high school cafeterias.

I'll never understand strip clubs. It would be like a someone who's starving walking into EB Greens and having a waiter dangle a plate full of freshly grilled filet mignon in their face and telling them, not only can't they eat it, but they better not even touch it.

thats what I'm talking about...very nice

The Winter scene seems to set this photo off, otherwise it would just be a simple downtown sidestreet shot. With the christmas decor, snow and already famous view (if you drink) this becomes a classic.

reminds me of that still shot from Vanilla Sky...hmmm

with some very cool photoshop work, you could make prints of this and make some cash.
