superb tour of the city, but as far as calling that mosque the most beautiful... you could have said that's in your opinion ;)

Just a Canadian author, 3t. :) My friend there sent me a copy of his book. :D It's really boring, actually. But a few passages I like - so I posted them with the photos. :)

And Vijecnica is like...in English "City Hall"? But it's not City Hall. It used to be. We still call it Vijecnica. :D

Yes, 3tmk. The second picture of Vijecnica, in the Autumn section, is much closer and it is clear which building is being referenced. :) I didn't specify it for the top one.

Did you guys see Bosnotrip yet? It's underground film, I bought it at the market here. :D It's hilarious!

There is one scene I loved best of all.

It shows two Muslim girls getting ready to go to nightclub. And they are just dressed slag to the maximum. Pushing up their breasts, making their skirts shorter, taking off their panties. And chewing their gum, and one of them is putting her hair up and drops her vodka and said, "Well fuck!"

And the other girls takes a shot of her vodka and says: "You shouldn't swear, you're Muslim."

Well, I ALMOST wet myself. ;)

Sarajka

They had the best Serb joke I've ever seen, as well. ;) I hope any Serbians on this forum will laugh. First, I have to explain...

The Muslim family are the main characters of the movie - it's the two daughters, a son, and the parents, and the old Grandmother. It follows them from their lives in Sarajevo, to bringing their Grandmother back to her home in Brcko. It passes through most of the central-north area (Tuzla, Zenica, Banja Luka, Doboj, Tesanj, etc.).

They are arriving in the first streets of Doboj and park at a gas station so they can stop to use the bathroom, buy something to drink, and so on. They park beside a car that is the same model and color as their own, but has Banja Luka license plates (theirs has Sarajevo plates). This group of Serbian kids, very young, they overhear the old men saying, "Pfft...Muslims..."

So they decide to play a dirty joke and they go over to the car and scratch it with rocks. Then they laugh, and hide - but no one comes running out of the gas station. So they do more and more, gradually worse things to the car. Finally the Muslim family comes out, gets in their car - and theirs was the good one. Hahaha. So they leave, and then a few minutes later, a Serbian woman comes out - gorgeous, young woman.

She walks over to her car, and it's trashed, and she calls out: WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MY CAR? And she sees the little boys laughing, so she chases them, and they hide behind the old men. The old men say to her: Well, you shouldn't have parked beside Muslims!

And her jaw drops, she is SO frustrated, and she goes into this big rant: THERE WAS NOBODY THERE WHEN I PARKED, AND THERE IS NOBODY THERE NOW! YOU BLAME EVERYTHING ON THE FUCKING MUSLIMS!"

Hahaha. :D

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA TO HOST 2009 SPECIAL OLYMPICS WORLD WINTER GAMES

NAGANO, Japan, March 4 /PRNewswire/ --
- Games to Attract 2,000 Athletes with Intellectual Disabilities From 80 Countries
Special Olympics and the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games Bid Committee will announce tomorrow that Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, will be the site of the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games. The 2009 Games are expected to attract 2,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from at least 80 countries as well as thousands of families, volunteers, spectators and media from around the world. Exact dates for the 2009 Games have yet to be finalized. This will be the second time that Special Olympics World Winter Games will be hosted in Europe; Austria was the site of the 1993 Special Olympics World Winter Games.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20040302/LNTU017LOGO )
The announcement will be made on 5 March during Closing Ceremonies of the 2005 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Nagano.
Major factors in selecting Bosnia and Herzegovina as the site of the 2009 Games were the country's climate and geography, its Olympic athletic facilities, and the strong Special Olympics Program in Bosnia and Herzegovina which in the past three years has yielded tremendous progress in athlete enrollment and community participation. As a result, Special Olympics is now recognized as one of the fastest growing sports organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"By awarding the Special Olympics World Winter Games to Bosnia and Herzegovina we will be celebrating how Special Olympics builds communities and unites people with a common message of hope, humanity and acceptance," said Timothy P. Shriver, Ph.D., president and CEO, Special Olympics, Inc. "The universal language of sport, so beautifully immortalized in the 1984 Olympic Games in Sarajevo, will once again embrace the very best of the human spirit, enabling people with intellectual disabilities to showcase their athletic ability while taking their rightful place as valued members of society," Shriver said.
Prime Minister Adnan Terzic, who is attending the Nagano Games, said that the Bosnian government and people are proud to have been given this unique honor to host the 2009 Games. "The Special Olympics World Games will send an important message about the readiness of Bosnia and Herzegovina to ensure better, more urgent and complete solutions to meet the needs of people with intellectual disabilities," said Terzic. "At the same time, the Games will provide, particularly for the younger generation, a positive way to contribute to creating a more welcoming and caring society," he added.
Special Olympics, founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, is the world's largest year-round program of sports training and competitions for individuals with intellectual disabilities of all ability levels. Almost 2 million athletes in over 150 countries train and compete in 26 summer and winter Olympic-type sports at local, national and international events. Through its sports and sports-related programming, Special Olympics provides long-term benefits to an individual's health, self-esteem and social inclusion.
Special Olympics and Paralympics are two separate organizations recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Paralympics provides sports opportunities for elite-level athletes with disabilities.

I was born and raised in canada. My parents moved over 30 years ago. As a kid before the war, I'd go back annually. And I've been in Sarajevo twice in the last 3 years (for month long periods each time), but this time Im bringing friends, so I expect it to be a great time. While the last couple of times I stayed with family, and came alone, this time my friends and I have booked hotels near the Bascarcija and are basically just going with the aim of having good times on our own. I've been hard at work continuously for the last couple of years and I really need a break, so a break it will be.
