What is happening? First it's Sri Bukit Persekutuan which was actually built on a forest reserve, then Bukit Cahaya..now Little Genting!? At least I hope it's not a gated community up there especially the areas where the views are great

?Little Genting? falls prey to development

K. THASHALINI
KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 7:
A hill along Jalan Hulu Langat in Ampang here which used to be called ?little Genting? because of its cool weather and scenic view of the city has now fallen prey to development.

The 3,000 residents of Kampung Tasek, who live below the hill, are now worried that the on-going massive hill-cutting will endanger the village.

?The hill-cutting began in April last year and we do not know why it is being done,? said Kampung Tasek Residents? Association vice-chairman Ng Shin Cheong.

?We are not against development but we do not want to be kept in the dark as it affects us.?

SCENIC MO MORE: Massive development work being done at the hill

Ever since the hill was being cut, the village has been experiencing floods and soil erosion as there are few trees to stem the water flowing from the hill to the village.

Ng also said that most of the residents have been living there for three decades as a result of resettlement from Kampung Pandan.

Kampung Tasek Residents? Association chairman Chong King Sing said that they have lodged a complaint with the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) and other authorities but to no avail.

?Nothing has been done to help us although the hill poses a danger if the development continues,? he said.

?We have two schools situated below the hill and the hill-cutting also poses a danger to the students.?

Chong added that even the roads there were littered with debris due to the hill-cutting and the water flowing into the nearby river gets murky and dirty.

Another resident, Ngan Khoy Min, 55, hoped that a solution would be found for the drainage problem and soil erosion in the area.

More than three thousand villagers are living in Kampung Tasek after being moved from Kampung Pandan in 1975.

Actually I think the reporter got mixed up lah. The area where the article highlighted isn't 'Little Genting' but the Ampang-Hulu Langat Highway which also offers a grreat view but much further. Anyway there is a very tall look-out point for that area built by the govt so dun worry ;)

The actual Little Genting viewing area too small for any development as it is by the roadside lah. :D
