Salam is not cancelled, it is just on hold for the time being. Sama Dubai may sell to a new investor or continue with the project after the financial crises eases up.

من جهة أخرى .. علمت (أخبار الخليج ) من مصادر موثوق فيها أن إيقاف مشروع منتجع السلام (سادس أكبر مشروع على مستوى الخليج من حيث قيمة الاستثمار) الذي أعلنت شركة سما دبي وقف العمل فيه مؤخرا رغم انتهاء ما يقرب من 30% من أعمال الإنشاء به.. يأتي في إطار إعادة لدراسة خططها واستراتيجيتها في المنطقة لكنه لم يلغ كما كتبت بعض الصحف المحلية.. ويبقى للشركة خياران إما بيعه لمستثمر آخر أو استئناف العمل به بعد فترة الركود الحالية.
يذكر أن شركة ناس للمقاولات في فبراير الماضي، حصلت على عقد تنفيذ مشروع منتجع السلام بقيمة تصل إلى 8،153 مليون دينار بحريني بالشراكة مع شركة موري آند روبرتس.
ويتوقع أن تقوم شركة ناس بستريح آلاف العمال نتيجة إلغاء عقد منتجع السلام، وهو أول التأثرات الناجمة عن إلغاء العقد.
وكانت البحرين تسعى إلى جعل "منتجع السلام" الذي يقام جنوب غرب البلاد ملتقى لملوك ورؤساء الدول في المنطقة. إذ تريد المنامة أن يكون لها منتجع فخم في منطقة مناسبة لكي تستضيف فيه المؤتمرات الدولية المهمة والكبيرة واجتماعات القادة مثل قمم القادة في دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي وقمم جامعة الدول العربية ولقاءات زعماء الدول ليكون مشابها لما يقوم به منتجع شرم الشيخ الذي شهد أهم الاجتماعات وتوقيع أهم الاتفاقيات في المنطقة بل العالم.
وتعد هذه المنطقة من أفضل المناطق في البلاد لإقامة المنتجعات إذ تقع في دائرة منعزلة عن المناطق السكنية المعهودة وخارج ازدحام المدن مما يوفر لها خصائص انتقال أفضل ومستويات أمنية أعلى، إذ تدفقت على المنطقة الجنوبية استثمارات ضخمة تقدر بعدة مليارات من الدولارات بعد أن تم تشييد حلبة البحرين الدولية في الوقت الذي يجري فيه مد شارع سريع إلى المنطقة الجنوبية يحتوي على أنفاق وجسور علوية وما زال العمل عليه مستمرا منذ أعوام ويقام المشروع على مساحة تفوق 500 ألف متر مربع.

Is West Bay the only area in Doha where it's possible to build high towers?

I mean it makes for a nice compacted skyline but this place is going to be very crowded.

How long is the West Bay stretch in this great photo by the way? and is the beach lined with palms in the picture a part of a project?

the bay with the palm trees and the small park is the MIA Park its part of the Museum of Islamic Arts, Qatar :D

No, West bay is not the only place for towers to be built, but it is though the main place, other places include Suhaim bin Hamad Road (alsadd area), and the new Lusail area where the lusail project is under construction and it is where the pearl qatar project is located along with other towers and projects ....

The skyline is compact but that impression is reinforced by the fact that many towers currently have the same height (about 50 floors). Four towers with an approximate 100 floors are currently getting built, and will eventually give a much more 'elevated' look to the skyline.

Is that the tower rising on the very left? Looks like it to me.

From what I heard, this is political. Qatar authorities have made it clear to Dubai that they would feel 'embarrassed' if the project came to a halt.

There is no bigger embarrassment than pulling out of Al Salam Resort in Bahrain which is supposed to hold the next 2010 GCC Summit, and they did it.

In these times survival is more important than saving face.

The project of those towers looks very nice :) i wil wait to see them complete...

وقال الدبل في تصريحات لـ «ميد» نشرتها صحيفة «البيان» الإماراتية يوم أمس الأول (الجمعة)، إنه يتولى الآن إدارة مشاريع «سما دبي» على المستويين المحلي والعالمي. وفي إشارة إلى اندماج محتمل قال: «سنثبت في غضون شهر أو شهرين أن (سما دبي) مازالت قائمة، بعدها سترون أنها أصبحت جزءاً من (دبي للعقارات)». وأشار الدبل إلى وجود إمكانية للدمج عندما تكون الفرص الاستثمارية العقارية فعالة، مؤكداً أن «سما دبي» ستتلقى مساعدة مالية من «دبي للعقارات» و «دبي القابضة» اللتين تلقتا جزءاً من سندات دبي السيادية البالغة 10 مليارات دولار. وقال الدبل: «إن (سما دبي) ستواصل العمل في مشروع أبراج دبي في الدوحة وتعيد إحياء مشروع منتجع السلام في البحرين والمشروع التطويري في عمان». وأضاف «راجعت جميع مشاريع (سما دبي)، وقد قامت ببعض الاستثمارات الجيدة خارج دبي ونحن ملتزمون بها». وخلص إلى القول «إن السيولة متوافرة وإن فريق المقاولين جاهز وهذا هو المطلوب للتحرك نحو الأمام».

^^ its ok =P lol btw i noticed the palms have been replaced with new ones =O i dont see any reason for them to do that...

Actually they have cut some branches of the palm trees whereas the few remaining branches have been folded around the trunk and put in some kind of bag, making the trees look like they have no branches. Must be some kind of palm trees maintenance work ;)

Salman - the tower is still being built. The original developed, Sama Dubai, went bankrupt last year and Dubai Properties have carried the project forward instead. It is one of very few of Sama Dubai's projects which actually being completed.

Yes this project is definitely going ahead but it's still shaky...the developer has put a cap on the invoice the contractors can submit monthly..so they are working very slowly in order to be in line with this, and at this pace it will take years to complete. Hopefully this is the worst phase now and the cap can be raised little by little. Fingers crossed!

I guess nothing hasn't changed that much yet? :(

Dubai Towers really looking huge! Its up to Level 28 now, currently building Level 29. Almost a third of the height and its already huge!

Well, they might buy it and rename it to something else. Perhaps even postpone Barwa Tower as a consequence!

But I guess it's still on hold? Are they still waiting for the NDIA to be completed or are they just waiting for new financing?

There is no height restriction linked to NDIA for this building.

The developer Sama Dubai is unable to finance the construction of this project, this is the only reason why it's stopped. It is definitely still on hold and haven't heard any fresh news.

Dubai towers are really great and they are truly skyscrapers.
