Hi all,

I am just curious as to if there is a height limit imposed on Chevron Island at the Gold Coast, and what that might be. I was told it was 4 stories, however I have noticed a new development on the other side of the island from where I live, that appears to be 10 stories! Could there be different height limits for different parts of the island? Any info anyone has about this would be great!

For interests sake, here is a pic I found of Chevron Island from 1976! Does anyone know when the bridge on the other side of the island was built, as it's not in this photo?

Funny to see how times change. The bridge at the bottom looks pretty empty in that image. When I crossed there at the end of last year, it was rediculously congested! Also a lot of those houses and buildings (you can see where Chevron goes to the bottom left of the bridge).

Well I just went and answered my own questions - one of them at least!

After work I rode to the site to take a pic of the development signage, and just happened to bump into the developer. We got talking and I found out that the height limit on all non-waterfront land on Chevron Island is 10 stories (didnt get an exact height), but of course you need a relatively large area of land to be able to build that high (which this does, it takes up about half a block).

The new development is called The Grange on Chevron and the helpful man even gave me a brochure which I have scanned pics from and added below.

The website for anyone who is interested is http://www.thegrangeonchevron.com.au

Pics...

Nice render from the brochure, I really like the design:

Diagram showing where it will be, interesting because it shows the Towers of Chevron still under construction, Q1, and the CoC site:

excellent. thanks for taking effort in finding out about this one. cool design. Burns Design are a great firm! is it on cnr of Illawong & darrambal streets?
yes i thought 10 or 12storeys might be limit out there. Councillors want it to stay relatively lowrise. 10storeys is approx 30m/100ft high.maybe additions of plantrooms or architectural features will take height to above 35m which is the accepted height on www.skyscrapers.com. Im editor for 30 cities and have spent years compiling most of the Gold Coast buildings. Ill add this one.
cheers

Wow some great pics there Culwulla! So for all that time before the second bridge was built, Chevron Island only had one way on and off, I guess that may have helped it remain so undeveloped ie. no highrises and large resort developments. Also amazing to see the changes that have occurred on the Gold Coast in only 40-50 years!

Was trolling through www.realestate.com.au looking for interesting surfers pics yesterday and saw a few smallish highrise planned for Chevron Island.
