Isn't that the NS Channel, not the river?

near foster and kedsi the river branches off , one goes strait north and the other out northwest by the east river park/west river park/legion park. the northwest part ends in the skokie lagoons by lake cook rd. and skokie blvd. while the north bound brach heasds into the lake again back up by evanston and

wait a second, if the river comes in from the lake by wacker then ends in the lake up between wilmet and evanston then the whole north side of chicago is an island no? i guess im a bit crazy to say that but its surrounded by water through out the entire cercomferance of the northside

^ yes a good deal of the north side and parts of evanston and wilmette are technically an island due to the digging of the northshore channel. just about all of the southisde and alot of southwest brubs are technically an island as well due to the calumet river, the chicago river, and the chicago sanitary and ship canal.

however, these are technical islands, not functional islands. and they are not natural features, they were created by the digging of man-made canals.

Does anyone know if there are plans to develop the North Shore Channel banks? Skokie does have a fairly impressive sculpture garden (on McCormick; if I'm not mistaken, stretching from Golf down to around Dempster). Are more developments planned?

The Skokie and L'wood side is pretty well lined with existing but underutilized parkland that could be made into more of an amenity. The Evanston and W. Rogers Park side is more dead ended; no street, but could be attractive residential property if the channel was redeveloped.

^Chicago does not own the land along the N. Shore Channel in West Rogers Park (West Ridge). North of Devon, the City Limits stop at Kedzie Avenue, leaving the North Shore Channel within Skokie and Lincolnwood. I have no idea if they plan on developing it or not.

you know what , ive been telling my friends for a long time that that would be a great place to develope . call it river front property. set it up like how they did a few miles south of there on the river were all the residents have the river as there front yard with boats and things like that.
but anyways , like i said i noticed some kind of developement along the east side of the river . it seems like there connecting sculpture park with legion park with a jogging/bike trail that seems to cut under the peterson, lincoln, and devon bridges running right along side the river. maby like 2-3 feet along side it.
