X-seed 4000 January 4th, 2003, 05:47 AM eh... it would be a nice replacement for Seattle :D:D
7.5/10
*Don't worry Seattle, I was kidding your still my #1 city*
SUNNI January 4th, 2003, 02:32 PM ive never heard of this city b4... but i like it and it looks pretty nice from what im seeing right now.. 8
Username January 5th, 2003, 03:35 AM Way underrated and underrepresented. 8/10
parody24 January 5th, 2003, 09:39 AM I, also, think Kansas City is underrated. It's a pretty setting
and has a good looking downtown. For a city its size, it
does very well in the skyline department. It absolutely has
density when you're walking around the downtown.
Obviously, it pales in comparison to San Fran or Seattle or
Sydney. But, it looks great for what it is. So, I give it a 7/10.
Tony 175 January 5th, 2003, 10:54 AM I gIve It a 6.
NeEds a bIGGER skyscraper.
SteelCity32 January 7th, 2003, 03:23 AM pretty good. Thats a pretty neat envisioned highrise for KC.
8/10
Jeff from Winnipeg January 10th, 2003, 06:48 AM I don't think that's an envisionned building...
Anyways, I like the city of fountains. The skyline ain't bad cuz it's not full of boxes. ->7/10 What's the building with the columns and suspension cables in the first pic?
isoboy January 10th, 2003, 06:12 PM Not bad. A slight improvement on the "vertical box culture" evident in skylines of mid-sized North American cities. Still, it''s not especially exciting and overall, the skyline is somewhat bland. 6/10
SluuugRadio January 10th, 2003, 06:24 PM 5/10
BGT February 19th, 2003, 04:36 AM 8.5/10 very wide, nice collection of the old and the new

DrumCorpsAlum February 22nd, 2003, 10:40 PM 8/10. Not too shabby.
nostyle March 1st, 2003, 03:45 AM I like KC. It's not huge, but it's just big enough. It has some nice buildings, but no one building or feature that makes you say "wow!"...it's just a nice, midsized skyline that is very underrepresented on these forums. I'd give it a 7.5.
james2390 June 5th, 2003, 06:23 AM its ok, 7/10
KCDevin July 31st, 2003, 12:54 AM time for some explaining and more photos :)
The tallest building is 632ft it is One Kansas City Place, which is also the tallest building in missouri, it is not envisioned, there is one photo there that was taken before 1988. (maybe thats why you thought it was a vision)
Kansas City has more area than NYC
Its tallest structure is a guyed mast owned by KCPT and is 1220ft tall.
It's downtown runs from the river to 31st Street,
It's skyline is split up from the Downtown Loop, Crown Center (also downtown) and the Country Club Plaza.
It is ranked in the top 10 art deco cities in america
A few of these are my photos, not many though

Very nice pics there KCGuyedGuy, gives a good feel or the city (at least as good as you can get on pics). For the skyline, has a nice form, very nicely topped off buildings with variety, and although nothing too significant from the last ten years or so, the skylin is not overwhelmed by buildings from a particular era. The height is good, though not high enough yet, and the core has some good density. Hopefully they'll build over those carparsk sometime....
Cheers, thanks again for excellent pics
KCDevin February 10th, 2004, 01:25 AM Anyone who plans to visit Kansas City, do it in either 2005 or 2006. Those years will the height of the current construction. (but not necisarrily the height of the building boom)
Ashram February 10th, 2004, 04:38 AM 7/10 Good mix of old and new buildings.
Necker February 10th, 2004, 06:40 PM So and so
KCDevin March 2nd, 2004, 04:27 AM so far we have been (almost) guaranteed a new performing arts center, ballroom and a downtown arena.
There is also a 40/60 or 50/50 chance of us getting a new downtown baseball stadium (Kauffman is located w/ Arrowhead several miles east south east of the Plaza).
And the federal reserve may start construction on their midtown complex this fall (includes a 13 floor building on the highest spot downtown, might as well build a 20-30 floor building downtown if they want to do that)
IRS will also be building a lowrise structure next to the Post Office and Liberty Memorial.
And 4-5 highrises are currently proposed for the plaza. and 2 are u/c.
Schroedinger's Cat March 7th, 2004, 06:44 PM 9.0 :okay:
shibbie June 6th, 2004, 02:17 AM Been through KC many times. Like the skyline when coming from Topeka EXCEPT
shibbie June 6th, 2004, 02:22 AM oops sorry. I meant to say EXCEPT for One KC Place building. Yeeeeeech!!!! Looks like some architect's kid stacked a bunch of cardboard boxes up one night, thought it would make a pleasing to the eye skyscraper, pitched it to his boss the next day. That guy should be fired. Overall, I like KC though. 8.5/10
KCDevin June 19th, 2004, 11:06 PM Here is an update on the Power & Light Live project:
http://www.kcskyscrapers.com/albums/renderings/kcliverendering.jpg
They are going to close down some of the roads to take out the trolly tracks and have SBC put in utilities for the project.
Construction on the buildings should start next year.

I just noticed that (I don't believe) anyone ever replied to you. Sorry bout that. The builing with the suspension cables and the controversial sculptures adorning the supports would be Bartle Hall, the local convention center. It annually hosts the auto show and basically any major expo that requires a lot of space. Hope that answers your question.
kcMO4eva January 13th, 2005, 08:12 AM I'm from KC and I gave it an 8.5 because KC's skyline could've been better but the KC Place project partcially failed. But our city's skyline is pretty good. By far the best skyline in Missouri. I have a couple of pics of the KC skyline.

stlouiscityboy April 7th, 2005, 08:19 AM K.C. What can i say this city has always been a fav of mine. The City of fountains and parkways. Their skyline is wonderful and has a great mix of what most cities dont have class and style. A skyline is more then just tall buildings its also homes, churchs, trees, and memorials and this city has some of the best places to view the city ( Liberty Mem. Rosedale Arch, Top of Quality Hill and Union Hill, driving down Main or on I-35 coming from Kansas. And as Saint Louis has one of the fastest growing downtown pop. The street scene in downtown is very neat how its hilly alot like San Fran and when you are on a dt street in KC you can see out across the river and into the River Bottoms area or out to Crown Center.
MattSal April 7th, 2005, 04:18 PM A very nice mid-sized skyline. I give it a 7.5/10. :okay:
Hepec April 10th, 2005, 01:08 PM WoW. It really put St. Louis to shame. \

chris9 July 7th, 2005, 05:06 PM The pictures are great, the downtown redevelopment plans look promising.
Somebody mentioned that Kansas City has a bigger area than NYC, well you don't have even 1/10th the population in the city as NYC, barely 450,000 compared to 8 mil so population density must be very small.

we all know New York is alot biger it is the biggist city in the US but Kansas City is Spred out thats why we have so much areia in the metro we have 2.0 mill and in the city we are up to 470,000 now in 2005 we have many pro sports teams in the area like the kc Royals (MLB) Chiefs (NFL) Wizards (MLS) and The new Arena Football Team that will start playing in Jan. we also are most likley going to get a WNBA team we also hope to get a NBA team or NHL team or both in the new arena but most likley it looks like we will get an NHL team. all that is just in kansas city mo. We also have alot of minor leage teams in the metro area in Overland Park KS just southwest of Kansas City home of about 150,000 we have the Kansas City Kinghts they are a Simi pro basketball team they also have the Kansas City Comits in the indoor soccer leauge and in Kansas City KS just 5 miles west of KCMO home of about 130,000 we have the Kansas Speedway and The Kansas City T-Bones a Minnor Leauge baseball team.

Tosspot November 21st, 2005, 09:55 AM 7/10 it's aight, but why is KANSAS city in MISSOURI??
The city of Kansas City Missouri was actually incorporated as a city before the state of Kansas existed. The state of Kansas stole the name from the city, apparently. They are both named for the Kanza Indian tribe.
cwilson758 November 22nd, 2005, 05:06 PM Great skyline that reminds me a lot of Cincy's. You can tell KC's importance in the early 1900's

♣628.finst March 12th, 2006, 11:58 AM Classical but humble skyline. 8.5/10. Kansas City is in fact, the 10th city in United States in terms of skyscrapers! It does have height and density--- all on par with Minneapolis, Miami or Calgary.

Absolut355 March 13th, 2006, 09:39 AM I've always loved KC's skyline, and I'm born and raised in STL..its not as dense, but one of my favorite views is coming down Hgwy 29 from the airport...for some reason, I look a little bit to my right and see the ENTIRE skyline sitting on the bluff...Good stuff, I am very proud of my cities in MO that I love and what they have accomplished in the past couple of years!

Nout October 31st, 2006, 08:48 PM In NYC I saw people walk with t-shirts 'this ain't Kansas City'. So I expected a really small village. In that case its more than I expected, but its still not very impressive. 5.5/10

08en January 5th, 2007, 08:55 AM Here are some pictures of the skyline of Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas City is probably one of the most underrated cities in the Untied States, probably because we have the word "Kansas" in our name, when our city is actually in the state of Missouri (Kansas City had it's name, after the Kanza Indians, before the state of Kansas was even incorporated into a territory). It is thought of by many to be a small cow town, when that is in no way the case. It has a population of 470,000 and a metropolitan population of more than 2.2 million people (making us the 26th largest metropolitan area in the United States), and it's growing. The city is one of the top five largest major cities in land area in the United States. Also, the city is not flat and full of farmland-- it is a sprawled metro with a downtown in the middle and a big shopping district called the Country Club Plaza about 3 miles south of downtown-- and it's situated on bluffs, meaning that it is hilly and forested terrain instead of flat, dead, prairie. It is also one of the wealthiest cities in the United States, having many large homes and mansions throughout our metropolitan area. It is also thought by those who visit it as being one of the most beautiful cities in the United States, as it has more fountains than any city in the world except Rome. Our city, as stated before, is experience a great amount of growth throughout the metro, but our downtown is undergoing the largest boom of investment in the United States right now, with more than 4 billion dollars of investment in it.
Here are some pictures:
Downtown (From the north-- most pictures show our skyline from the back, but most of our skyscrapers can only be viewed from the north side because the really tall buildings in the back block them from view when seen from the south)

Crown Center (This is considered our second skyline, as our downtown is very weird. There is a huge cluster of tall buildings, as pictured above, and south of them are mid-rise warehouses built in the 1900's. At the far edge of the south of the downtown is Crown Center, which has a few skyscrapers)

The Country Club Plaza (This is one of the nicest upscale shopping districts in the United States, and has been rated as one of the 100 nicest public places in the entire World-- it is similar to fifth avenue, but has spanish architecture and some skyscrapers on it's outer limits. It is about three miles south of downtown)

Wow--- that was alot pics.... Obviously, Kansas City is no megacity like New York or Chicago, but it is a big city and is competitive with most other non-huge cities in the United States (like Denver, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Detroit, ect).
08en January 5th, 2007, 11:15 AM I gave it a 10. For it's class of a city (not a New York, Chicago or a Dallas), it's probably one of the better ones. I like the combination of the Art-Deco architecture with several glass towers. If it were to be rated soley on the view from the south, I would give it a 7, but when you see the view from he North, i think it's a 10 or pretty close.

We stop in the Plaza every December. Well, every December that the Sooners are in town for the Big XII Title game. Well, okay, just about every December...
KC is great to us. We love to go to the game, and we love to explore the city afterwards. I've thought having the game there had pros and cons. Cons: Too convenient for KU, K-State, and Mizzou. Hell, it couldn't be any closer to half the Big XII North schools! Pros: It's Kansas City.
This is an amazing shot that really sums up everything that everyone loves so much about KC:

08en January 6th, 2007, 01:48 PM This is the real Kansas City if anyone is being decieved by that Kansas City Kansas post-- the big city is Kansas City, Missouri-- and that's this one. I can't even believe that someone would post a SUBURB (and one of the porrest ones in the Kansas City metropolitan area) on a rate your skyline page- the have like 3 buildings that are 10-20 stories tall and that's it in Kansas City Kansas. Obviously, Kansas City, Missouri has a beautiful skyline-- I would say in one of the top 10 of the non-huge cities in the United States (non huge being not New York, Chicago, Dallas, Houston).

612Buddha January 6th, 2007, 07:26 PM I love KC...been there numerous times. I have stayed at the Fairmont by the Plaza and just love the feel and atmosphere of the area. Very very clean city with an abundance of beautiful fountains that must be seen in person. On top of all that, the restaurants in KC are great as well and any steak and BBQ fans would be in heaven. Also, even though the Royals blow at baseball, you must venture to Kauffman Stadium at the Arrowhead Sports Complex. Such great facilities there for baseball and football, even though they are not the newest of venues!
FROM LOS ANGELES January 6th, 2007, 09:44 PM It's nice, but it need a central point in the skyline, a taller building in the middle. 7/10
Battsman January 6th, 2007, 10:15 PM It is also one of the wealthiest cities in the United States, having many large homes and mansions throughout our metropolitan area.
Wow, exagerrate much?
Seems like everyone on this forum thinks their city is one of the wealthiest. KC metro is only the 12th wealthiest in just the midwest, let alone in all of America. Plus, there is NO way that KC has more investment than Miami. The buildings under construction alone are probably at least the number of skyscrapers in KC.
Don't get me wrong, KC is a nice city for its size. However, you shouldn't resort to exagerration to promote this city.

Our metropolitan area is in no way 12th in the midwest! We are way wealthier than St. Louis' MSA (figuring in East St. Louis and all the other slums around that city), Omaha's, Cleveland's, and Indianapolis'. That could not be possible with suburbs such as Johnson County and Mission Hills, plus the wealthy areas up north and in Lees Summit. I don't even think that there are 12 good sized metropolitan areas even existing in the midwest (metros with more than 1,000,000 citizens). By wealth, I mean per capita income. I should have said we have more wealthy PEOPLE than most cities in the United States. And for some reason, our city's web site claims that we have the most downtown investment of any US city. I would agree with you however, that Miami probably has more. But besides Miami, I can't think of anywhere else with more investment.

First off that's almost HILARIOUS that you claim that SAINT LOUIS is wealthier than Kansas City. Saint Louis isn't even on the US census list ranking the top 1-40 median incomes (I actually meant median income instead of per capita). Saint Louis is a poor metropolitan area since it has East Saint Louis and other crappy areas (far worse than Wyandotte County) scattered throughout the metro. Furthermore, Kansas City is the 4th MAJOR wealthiest MSA in the area (Des Moines and Cedar Rapids and all those others have less than 1 million people), as supported by the data that you provided. Even so, there is a VERY high concentration of wealth found in the Kansas City MSA, such as Ward Parkway, and Mission Hills in Johnson County, which is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the entire country (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission_Hills%2C_Kansas) with a median income of 200,000 dollars.

ShowMeKC March 14th, 2007, 01:51 PM It kind of amuses me how people rank medium sized American cities based on standards they put on our largest cities. This is a city of about 450,000 people, with about 180,000 in it's inner 60 square miles (not including other cities/states)...
This isn't NYC, Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston etc...
Also, tall buildings don't make a city, so just based on the photos, i'd judge KC on it's density, tall buildings, design/layout/plan, architecture, etc...

NO WAY!. I've been inside kauffman already(still under construction), and it is to small and is way to expenisve for what you are getting. The performing arts theater in Springfield (juanita hammons hall) cost like 5-10% of what this cost and has more seats and is just as nice.
