Let's take a look at the projects of Lithuanian cities which are now being presented in MIPIM '05 exhibition in Cannes. Last year's exhibition was first serious attempt of participation in this major exhibition as both Vilnius and Kaunas presented their common stand. This year 5 biggest Lithuanian cities prepared their own presentations.

:eek2: :eek2: Good stuff!

And its great that most of these projects already have investors or are already under development as opposed to being a "utopia" like some of us in here are trying to portray them :)

Some time ago, some Norvegian investors who builds islands like this all around in the world were in Klaipeda. They presented a new method of build such islands and maybe its much cheper, who knows...
So maybe, its not very very utopic. I hope so :)

First of all, it's great that NCC gets flesh around its bones. Right now all the high-rises are more or less in straight line, except Lietuva. It's good that there are also shorter high-rises to give a profile for the skyline.

:D I remember when some months ago I talked how awesome it would be if the wooden huts would be renovated properly and there'd be a beautiful tree-filled bulevard leading from them to the high-rise part of the district. :)

Thirdly, good that you have a proper plan for the development, so that all various investors and developers don't just do what they want.

Downloading the 70 meg video now.

Some projects indeed look like utopia (actually only one posted in this thread looks like utopia - artificial island in Klaipeda, but who knows maybe in the future it'll be realised?). There are more quite real but not certain projects, but afterall they are made to attract investments. Such projects as residential high-rise quartals in Kaunas, NCC in Vilnius are very real because they already have investors. E.g. Investors for NCC: "ELL nekilnojamas turtas" with "Merko statyba", "Hansabankas", Registru centras, Reval Hotel Lietuva, "Vyrokas" with "Middle Europe Investment", "Forum palace" owners, "Forumas" - these are all of the bigger ones which I know for now and I'm sure it'll atract more investors soon ;). Lithuanians probably know all these which I mentioned. Most of projects actually were mentioned here in ssc maybe except "Reval Hotel Lietuva" plan to build big conference center just next to the hotel.

One fact is that, plans sure are ambitious by Vilnius, Klaipeda and Kaunas municipaly. I don't know if you could call them projects. Remeber, that these are just investment proposals. None of these are developed as projects yet. Lets wait and see...

^^^ If you think none of those projects are real, then you are mistaking ;)

Middle Europe Investment and Vyrokas (I wonder why this company?) have already arranged an agreement to invest 500 mio LTL (about 150mio Eur) into the NCC of Vilnius by 2008 and build a commercial/residential/shopping quarter next to the current Vyrokas apartments building. So it seems it's very real after all :)
