The large temple in Belur is one of the most remarkable monuments from Hoysala times and region. It was commissioned by the Hoysala king himself to celebrate an important military victory in 1117 AD.The monument consists of a shrine, an open hall and a platform. The shrine (vimana, mulaprasada) is larger than usual, its pedestal measures about 10 by 10 meters while a more usual size is 5 by 5 meters. Its architectural style is Năgara (North Indian).

Ignore him. I think we should have more public polls, prevent this sort of trolling..

its not a luxury hotel...to have spacious rooms....... :wallbash:

by the way temples are designed to allow sufficient flow of air..notice the perforations in the walls...

to call it a messy structure....I would say one needs some maturity to appreciate the amount of work that went behind the construction of the temple some 1000 years ago....certainly not as easy as passing some loose comments.. :bash:

seems very cramped and messy. i wonder if ppl inside could even breath fresh air.

The climate is well suited to this type of architecture. It is made of stone, with cool and dark interiors.

Also, temples are not living spaces. The temple was not conceived as a building in the modern sense, but as a giant sculpture.
