Doha
Qatar's Dafna tower complex, which is currently under construction, is expected to be ready by the middle of 2006, said a news report.
It will house delegates of the Doha Asian Games 2006, said Thani bin Abdullah Housing Group chairman Shaikh Thani bin Abdulla Al Thani was quoted as saying in the Press report.
The complex is being built at the newly set up "towers area" in Dafna.
The tower complex is among the several major projects being carried out by the Group in Doha and its suburbs, Thani bin Abdullah said.
According to the report, he made the remarks at an Iftaar party organised by the Group at the Diplomatic Club.
He said the Group was keen to keep in pace with the new developments in the real estate market in Qatar.
The most advanced techniques have been used in the construction of the multiple towers in Dafna, which will be ready for the 2006 Doha Asian Games, he said.

Krazy March 13th, 2005, 01:25 AM Doha’s Al Dafnah Towers signs up for district cooling project
2/13/2005
The Al Dafnah Residential Towers Complex, owned by Thani bin Abdullah Housing Group, has joined the list of prestigious building projects that have signed up for Qatar Cool’s innovative district cooling project in Doha West Bay area, said a company spokesman.
Qatar Cool’s district cooling system will provide air-conditioning to the 220,000 sq meters of the Al Dafnah residential Towers Complex using chilled water which will be pumped from a central plant via a network of pipes, thus removing the need to have chillers in each building and thereby reducing costs to building owners. The complex, designed by MZ & Partners, is expected to welcome tenants in November 2006.
The Al Dafna Complex covers a total area of 326,700 sq meters and contains more than 1,200 flats, leisure facilities, including a recreation club with multi-purpose hall, and swimming pool, and car parking areas.
The complex will be built in a unique design in which the four towers of the complex rest on a six-step podium, three of which are 32 floors high while the fourth is 36 floors. Each of the towers contains model flats of one, two and three bedrooms each designed and finished to exacting international standards to create an attractive and comfortable environment.
Car parking facilities for the complex are of very advanced design and will house 1,620 cars.
“The Al Dafna Residential Towers Complex, which is now part of the District Cooling system in our West Bay development, will be in good company,” said Omar Alfardan. “The list now includes the Al Dana, Alfardan, and Commercialbank towers and we will soon announce more prestigious buildings whose owners are taking advantage of the efficiencies and savings that district cooling provides,” he added

It will also make it easier for us to see how construction is going on in the Dubai Tower instead of those two crappy webcams which weren't working yesterday... Both!
@Qatarifreak
It's true... When the Dubai Tower is complete, the QIC building will be in the dark age! The Dubai Tower will even block sunlight from reaching the building!

suzan October 20th, 2006, 10:15 PM Yes they can. I am saying so because I know someone who works with one of the contractors and said that deadline is November 10, which means that they are giving it away on that day because people coming for Asian games will be staying there!!!

I take back what I said. I just passed by and there were lights on and it seems as if they are furnishing the rooms. But, the road is a mess, with 20 more days to do, the road is still in this bad state. The exterior needs some sticker-peeling to be done and otherwise it is almost complete. I'll try to see it in the morning--but I stay at home until fotoor, and go out only at night. :( Maybe at EID.

Massilia November 9th, 2006, 07:00 PM Buildings are shorter on the render...but it resembles, especially the buildings disposition, and the podium are exactly the same..if it's a different project, it's a rip-off of the Dafna towers!
Qatar Son 333 November 9th, 2006, 07:19 PM not that much
Halawala November 10th, 2006, 10:13 AM There is an additional brown structure on this render, do you think it's gonna be added later?
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/575/16fi9.jpg
The render is an old one I think--much shorter than the current design.
By the way, the white stripes in the towers is Aluminum sticker-peel. They have to be removed in order for the exterior to finish fully! Their final color is probably aluminum-metal or yellowish as in the renders.
Massilia November 11th, 2006, 05:19 PM ^^ Thanks i didn't even see that from the pics!
Halawala November 11th, 2006, 06:17 PM The outside of the building is still uncomplete; but that is not as important as the inside. As long as their are furnished rooms, it is no problem. The road leading their however is in shambles! The land surrounding the towers is converted into one huge parking lot!

Guys, its the biggest hotel in the Middle East-- not nessessary the highest or most fancy. The Burj Al-Arab hotel is the highest in the world--not the biggest in terms of total occupancy units.
Qatar Son 333 January 8th, 2007, 06:25 PM i dont care about the hight , so it is larger than burjalarab cool , btw how meany stars is this hotel

burj al arab looks like small
suzan January 9th, 2007, 02:11 PM ^^ At the begining when Burj al Arab was built, I would be saying that it was one of the best towers built. But now, I dont even remember it!
It's nice and everything, but with all those new towers, I kindda forget it.
hazeem January 9th, 2007, 04:41 PM yea........burj dubai is rising and luking really good...its 9th tallest now..i guess..
Massilia January 18th, 2007, 12:19 AM I went through a www.webshots.com user gallery (mwlue_2), who was an athlete during the Asian Games, and it seems to me that one of the towers was occupied.
Look at the view from his apartment...the only possible shot of this of from the Al Dafna Towers!

SRF78 January 18th, 2007, 01:22 PM The Bavaria Hotel will have be both a hotel (as the name indicates) and serviced apartments.
It will be a 4 star hotel.
by the way it was occupied during the Asian Games.
A reliable source told me that Bavaria Company will need an extra month just to fix the independent tower so it can be used for commercial purposes.
This source told me that the finishing in the project is aweful as the owner and contractors rushed everything up for the towers to be ready for the Games.
Halawala January 18th, 2007, 04:05 PM ^^^ Well thank God they finished it during the games, but the exterior is still not done. Do they plan to complete it?
SRF78 January 18th, 2007, 04:09 PM Bavaria will first fix the Smaller tower to make it a hotel...
Timing=4 weeks
Then they will fix the rest...
Qatar Son 333 January 18th, 2007, 04:22 PM you mean the smallest will be the hotel ???
QatPhils January 18th, 2007, 07:59 PM 4 star hotel!
Agree, it sort of not looks like a 5 star anyway

I guess they didn't have a big budget for those

QatPhils May 14th, 2007, 01:36 PM I can't see the image but i can only see that it says - "www.asiatraveltips.com."
davy_boy May 14th, 2007, 05:50 PM Anyone know why this is in the 'completed projects' section is the key question here.
I have just driven past and it's almost as if they are starting to take it apart again, there are so many panels missing from the main cladding.
Not complete IMHO.
Qatar Son 333 May 14th, 2007, 06:02 PM there repairing it since the end of the asian games just like there repairing hamad medical city right now so its counted as 100% done
Halawala May 14th, 2007, 06:34 PM Anyone know why this is in the 'completed projects' section is the key question here.
I have just driven past and it's almost as if they are starting to take it apart again, there are so many panels missing from the main cladding.
Not complete IMHO.
Yeah I know, but the hotel is fully operational so its open...
Qatar Son 333 May 14th, 2007, 06:43 PM exactly even if the hotel is not open the exterior is done and most of the interior is done so it has to be considerd as finished
davy_boy May 16th, 2007, 10:28 AM exactly even if the hotel is not open the exterior is done and most of the interior is done so it has to be considerd as finished
How can that be? The exterior is in tatters, anybody can see that, and if ' most of the interior is done ' How can you consider it COMPLETED.
Apply that logic to a car for example. If the some panels are missing and it only has half the seats inside, would you consider that also ' COMPLETED '
There seems to be a rush here to announce that things are done, when clearly they are far from finished. Another example of this was in the latest publication of Oryx. They advertise The Gate complex as if it is completed and operational when it's not even at ground level!!!
I know Qatar is ' the land that logic forgot ' but lets keep it sensible.
Qatar Son 333 May 17th, 2007, 10:13 PM you cant compare a car with a tower davy boy a tower dose not need any fuel or even a machien not even wheels and i said mostly compleate as in 85% - 95% if as you said 50% or less the tower wont be at the current hight maybe even still rising
davy_boy May 18th, 2007, 11:55 AM A car was an example. It doesn't matter what the product / object is.
In my book, if it's not finished completely, then it's not completed IMHO.
amrja May 18th, 2007, 12:49 PM I agree. A tower should only be considered finished when construction has ceased 100%. The Dafna towers are not complete yet.
Qatar Son 333 May 18th, 2007, 02:18 PM ahh i cant deal with this any more argue with halawala not me
davy_boy July 12th, 2007, 02:23 PM Popular rumour has it that Bavaria are pulling out of the Al Dafna Towers complex due to behind schedule building work and poor finishing on this project.
Let's see whether the rumour is true. I can't say I'd be suprised knowing how things work ( or not in the majority of the cases ) here in Doha.
omarmakki July 13th, 2007, 12:51 AM Looks like it's happening... :(
Bavaria walks out of Qatar
by Chris Jackson on Wednesday, 11 July 2007
Bavaria Hotels International has walked away from the Bavaria City Suites Doha property in Qatar, citing the contractor's failure to deliver the project to the required standards and timeline.
Bavaria chief executive Thomas Gertz said the company made the "difficult decision" to protect the integrity and brand values associated with the company.
"I have every confidence in the hotel and tourism development in Qatar, and remain convinced that the high demand for professional hotel management, fuelled by economic growth will provide future management opportunities for Bavaria Hotels International in the country," he said.
"The decision to withdraw from a project that fails to meet the exacting standards set by Bavaria Hotels International should reassure both guests and owners of our uncompromising commitment to quality, comfort and the satisfaction of both guests and employees."
Bavaria Hotels International has other properties planned in Dubai and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.
davy_boy July 13th, 2007, 10:55 AM It's a shame / sham, but I can't say it's a suprise! Hopefully 'they' will now realise that standards need to be improved dramatically. I bet they don't have those sort of problems with their UAE ventures ...
Halawala July 13th, 2007, 12:00 PM It is really a shame.... :(
ahmad.oustwani July 13th, 2007, 02:12 PM damnit........so whats gonna happen now....?
Qatar Son 333 July 13th, 2007, 04:00 PM wait 4 a miracle to happen :ohno:
davy_boy July 14th, 2007, 11:30 AM Is anyone really that shocked by this news ... I for one am not. It was always on the cards that a big project would fold, or the tenant would pull out as things here are shockingly poor with regard to time scales, quality and support.
Qatarifreak July 14th, 2007, 08:40 PM Let the bidding commence!!
My bid is 23,000 Riyals for the whole development. Going once, going twice...
Qatar Son 333 July 14th, 2007, 10:14 PM what the heck    i cant stop laghing hahaha
Halawala September 23rd, 2007, 03:50 AM New hotel ‘best suited’ for business travellers
Ezdan Hotel and Suites at the West Bay
EZDAN Hotel and Suites, comprising four tower blocks, is the place to stay when on business in Qatar, according to its promoters.
Three of the blocks are serviced apartments made up of 1,500 units - studio, one-, two- or three-bedroom - while the fourth block is a 585-room/suites four-star hotel. Only one block is open now.
Joseph Karam, who heads the property at West Bay, said the hotel would open in mid-2008.
Sheikh Thani bin Abdulla al-Thani, owner and chairman, has made a substantial investment in creating the Ezdan Management Company to oversee the revamping and upgrading of the property. “We intend to build Ezdan as a strong brand in the hospitality and lodging industry in Qatar and the GCC,” Karam said.
The biggest challenge of the new management team, he said, “was and is to rebuild the trust and confidence of our guests, the local and international market that was lost by the previous management team of the property”.
He said there had been many promises made to the guests on upgrading the facilities and none of those commitments was met. So, on taking over, “our first priority was to establish a clear line of communication with all our guests and update them on the progress of each project”.
The first tower was running at 100% occupancy now, Karam said. Tower 2 is set to open soon with an already confirmed occupancy of 30%.
“I would have to admit that we have quite a few challenges to overcome but am confident that with a committed and strong owner like ours, and with the level of expertise that my team has, we have the winning formula in place.”
Ezdan sought to establish itself as “the preferred place to stay for business travellers who are on the lookout for good quality accommodation in a premium location,” Karam said.
It intended to provide serviced facilities at an affordable level to airlines and travellers as a layover facilitator, and simultaneously support corporate clients such as oil companies and government bodies, he said.
Besides, Ezdan Hotel and Suites could cater to all of Qatar’s sporting accommodation requirements, he said. It would be the only complex in Doha that had enough rooms in a single location to meet the needs of a major sporting event.
“Ours are the only suites which provide covered parking, free Internet inside the rooms, daily cleaning and professional staff delivering five-star service,” the official said.
Besides this project, the company has a massive residential complex in Wakrah comprising more than 158 villas and 600 two-bedroom apartments. This would be a high-end serviced compound. “We are in discussions for three other projects,” Karam said, without disclosing details.

Halawala September 28th, 2007, 06:55 PM Is it me, or has these towers been fixed from the outside?
Massilia September 28th, 2007, 07:08 PM ^^I advice you not to get too close...cause you'll discover it's you! They're in a poor state really. Maybe the first tower is fixed though, it looks fine. They're working on the rest. Pics are a week old, but I don't think much has changed.
However, I briefly talked with someone living in it, and he was totally happy with it!! I'll ask more next time........
