Yes rbj I noticed the plot right next to the ZZ towers has pilling works done, what i dislike is that its very close to the ZZ towers, like the palm twins and the islamic bank....

But good to hear its a hotel, we need more of these :D

WHAT?! And how come we dont have a thread for that?! Are you sure its not in hte opposite area in Lusail?

New hotel is owned by the Roayal Family. Its definately not on the Lusail its between ZZB and the bridge. Its quite a big plot.

Had another walk around this afternoon, I spoke to the architech from 51 East , he expects it opened in 2 months. Right at the front entrance it looks like they are creating a vip entrance a lovely fountain feature. Forgot QNB also have a bank there.

Re ZZ itself Ecovert are the managemnt company who are dealing with the service ie pool, public areas, sunbeds, etc etc. Their contract is up in September and I understand they are getting the boot and managemnt companies from the pearl will be dealing.

From what I saw I was really disappointed with the service in public areas, it was non existant. By getting a new company in with some interest would be great.

I saw 8 -10 broken sunbeds left lying around the pool, but I have heard good things for the future of ZZ especially when the shops are open and there is a new managemnt company in place.

Any more q's I will have another look tomorrow pm

the Lagoona Mall at the Zig Zag Towers, just of The Pearl is set to open late August. Interior construction works have advanced and most of the space has already been leased. The main anchor of the Mall will be the EAST 51 Department Store, operated by Darwish Holding, mostly a multibrand concept. The first East 51 Department Store has been operating since 4 years ago in a downtown location. As a novelty, the East 51 within Lagoona Mall will include the franchise of Parisian concept store Maria Luisa. High end IT, technology and sound brands will also be open, including Apple, Bang Olufsen, Lowe etc. As the ROLEX official distributor in Qatar, Darwish will open a monobrand of the luxury watch brand on the first floor, near the entrance of the East 51 Department Store. Despite several rumours, none of the major international luxury brands will open stand alone mono-brand stores in the Lagoona Mall, mostly due to the mix as well as a lack of a luxury shopping experience. Mention should be made that the mall also includes a Carrefour supermarket and several other medium level fashion brands.

Thought I would comment after finding this thread flat hunting.

Long term resident in Doha. Seen Zig Zag built was considering investing.

I am suspicious of this excuse that Ecovert are responsible for the poor maintenance of the building.

I visited last week. To get to the pool in tower A you have to pass the building office. In that office are the entire staff of DAR that used to be based in the office in the C ring. (I recognised one of the guys from my time back in the day looking to purchase)

Words cannot adequately describe what a very poor impression the people in the office gave. I was looking to rent and they barely lifted a finger to help.

The reason I am suspicious of this excuse is that if the office is on the same floor as the pool and the gym how can DAR not realise that the place in a total state. The day I visited there was rubbish all over the outside of the building and it was a real mess.

I don't believe DAR can be blaming Ecovert, It would make sense if they were not based in the building but they are 10 meters away from the wasteland that is the pool area.

I visited one of the 3 bed flats (11K unfurnished) Apart from poor finishing that is endemic here I could not help but notice that the front of the building i.e. the glass and steel, seems to be separating from the superstructure. In the flat I visited there were large cracks that had evidently been filled several times over between the glass and the building. It didn't look very inspiring.

Didn't get to look at the plaza area I was too put off by the staff in the office to consider renting there.

I can confirm that there is now a huge hole in the ground between the bridge and the tower A so if you were sold a flat (like they tried with me ) advertising a great view of the City and it is a good view that includes the Golf course. Your view will now be of a hotel.

If I was an investor I would be more than a little annoyed. I really can't see the point of building it there. There won't be a beach or anything and It's gonna look rubbish right next to the tower. Now people are going to be able to see directly into your lounge.

From my perspective I can't help but feel that the towers are a real wasted opportunity.

It's good news though if a carrefour is going to be built as people in the Pearl will have somewhere to shop.

*sighs* we DONT NEED anymore luxury shops. Not in Zig Zag anyway. Especially with the Pearl right around the corner!

They made a big mistake.

Oh and whoever said that they're mostly rented, is wrong.

Lagoona Mall themselves told me that they are desperately looking for stores. Problem is, they contradict themselves because they what store owners to give them their business model to be approved!

If the rent was slightly cheaper I would consider renting IF !!! there was the right mix of shops in the mall. It would be great if (unlike the Pearl) they have a nice mix of coffee shops, mid range restaurants and at least ONE convenience store.

Then I would be near the golf course and not have to go anywhere too far on my days off to eat and buy stuff.

One thing holding me off the Pearl is the lack of sensible places to shop.

If amnesia is right then the mall will be a big white elephant and 51east is gonna lose money because who would go there just for one store ?

The mall seems to want to be high end but it should have tried to be more like Landmark.

We do not need any more high end places no one goes to them or shops in them, particularly as everyone who can afford that stuff buys abroad when they travel as it's cheaper and more fun.

will watch this thread like this site love the metro being built in Losail and has anyone seen the shard of glass in London AWESOME

People and especially the Pearl management seem to have the mentality that ultra-luxury shopping is "in". While its nice to have a vuitton once in a while, come on, I would rather go to a place where there are lots of people around and affordable by everyone.

Exactly !!!!

Landmark has the right mix of shops, it's seen as slightly more upscale, yet at the same time it has the right anchor stores to make me want to visit.

The Pearl nice though it is has NO shops that I want to visit and no large anchor store. This means I won't travel to the Pearl for one store and Maybe look into a few others.

I goto Landmark for carrefour and always pop into Virgin or Gap. That is how shopping works.

Even the large Dubai malls know this and Villagio, to be fair has this.

Lagoona mall should have had cheap rents and aimed to be Landmark2 a mix of low-medium range shops and eateries.

Fingers crossed they realise this but I get the feeling they won't but we can always hope.

This is true it will be on the new empty parts of Porto Arabia, I think these places are essential for the people living on the pearl, lets hope for more of these to make the pearl a more bank-account friendly place.

thank u, but u make me sad :(

i assume that any mall in the world wants to gets success, has to be cinemas inside it.
Because must people go to the mall for one reason << for fun. and without cinemas, means there will be no fun << my opinion though :)

A Cinema makes the mall a destination. A huge department store makes the mall a destination. Lagoona has none of these meaning it won't attract people to come as it offers nothing different.

A wasted opportunity.

I think Carrefour makes a mall a destination as well. Or a Hypermarket of sort. Since it already will open a Carrefour Express, it will sort of attarct people. Plus, the restuarants like Chilis, and whatever, will sort of bring people in. Still, not significant, but still good.

I agree it will be like Royal Plaza a place for Elite who visiting these shops or these coffee shops we have many large malls and there more coming on the way and not wrong to have small malls for different segments.

I had forgotten about carrefour express, that certainly helps. All big malls need a centre piece pure and simple. No one goes to a mall just for a sunglasses hut !.

There is certainly a certain irony here though as the mall is aiming high end but the flats above are no where near high end. I saw better flats in Al Sadd. I was shocked.

Not for this thread but what are the anchor stores at North Gate and Doha Mall ?

Lagoona Mall opens first outlets
Doha: Thu, 27 Oct 2011

Doha’s Lagoona Mall announced the opening of its first bouquet of stores with exciting brands ranging from luxury fashion to iconic accessories in addition to the anchor tenant Fifty One East.

The Darwish Malls development and Qatar’s newest retail and lifestyle destination will house brands including Porsche Design, Cortefiel, Nara Camicie, Springfield, Clarks and Paris Gallery.

Spanning 128,000 sq m of space, Lagoona is a retail experience beyond the ordinary, taking the elements of life as its muse and paying homage to light, space, air and touch to create a sense of openness and wonder that is rare for shopping destinations, a statement from a mall official said.

Strategically located at the gateway to Lusail city, the mall will be home to over 160 imaginatively decked-out outlets in addition to 18 restaurants with international cuisines dotting a 22,000 sq m European-style Piazza.

Eamon Kelly, general manager, Lagoona, said: "We're extremely excited to see the launch of the initial phase of Lagoona which is still a work in progress but one where the retail experience is taking shape beautifully. It targets affluent customers looking for a place to call their own. Those walking through Lagoona's doors are a rare proposition: They're truly well-heeled and well-informed about global trends. The first line-up of boutiques and outlets is now open with other bouquets of stores to follow at later stages in 2012.”

The mall's anchor tenant, Fifty One East, will be the biggest luxury multi-brand super store in the Middle East region covering about 13,000 sq m and delivering the finest to the elite of Qatar. It is the longest-standing retail chain in Qatar and the most exclusive address for a style-savvy population seeking the best life-enhancing elements.

Elie Akar, project manager, Fifty One East at Lagoona, said: “The new Fifty One East at Lagoona, with its unique retail concepts will certainly introduce new trends to the region. The mall infuses style and space in every facet with different intelligent designs. This is exactly what the new Fifty One East offers.”

Lagoona’s mix of new international and regional brand-names includes stores which are founding their first flagship outlets in Qatar, such as Cortefiel, Blanco, Porsche Design, Adolfo Dominguez, Al Zain Jewellery, House of Mouawad, Kayra, Riva, Goelia, Spiegelburg, Moreschi, Fruits & Passion, Nara Camicie, i-Space, Bose, Bang & Olufsen, Point Zero, Carrefour Market, McDonald's (LIM Fresh), Tamarind Indian Restaurant, Wagamama Restaurant, Outback Steakhouse, Marakech Restaurant, Saladbar Green is Better, A Zigo Zago -Italian Restaurant and Wrapt, the statement said.

Additionally, Lagoona will showcase a variety of other multinational brands the likes of Clarks, Skin & Soul, Springfield, Table Arts, Boutique Veleno, Sugar & Spice, La Senza, Crono, Al-Muftah Jewellery, Yateem Optician, Al-Jaber Optician, QTel, Starlink, Adidas, Häagen-Dazs, Al Jaber Opticians, Ray-Ban, QNB, Jeff De Bruges, Mango, Mephisto, Reebok & Lotto multi-brand store, Pronovias, Bert's Café, Sun Fashion, Amber Bin Salem, Al Jaber Watches, Il Cafe Di Roma, IBQ, Vendome Pharmacy, Al-Khozama Tobacco, Silkor, Al Qurashi, Hanayen, Occhiali Optics, Axiom Telecom, Al Majed Jewellery, Edible Arrangements, Plaza Hollandi, Chili's and Caffé Vergnano, it said. – TradeArabia News Service
