Hansabank is about to build its new central office in Vilnius and here are all the contestants. All works were shown to the public today, the winner will be clear in about one week. So what would be your choice?

I made multiple choice poll so if you wish select more than one project but only if you're not sure which one you like more :)

My favourites are nr.: 1, 7, 10 and 11.

I say nr.: 7 if they leave only one antenna.

The entrants 6&7 are the best imo. The huge sphere would be a real landmark for Vilnius - something to which people might associate Vilnius - but as a corporate head-office it might not be the most practical solution. Great competition entries all of them, however - a whole lot of vision.

I chose 6. Simple, classic design, good materials can make it look great.

7, 10, 11 looks could be new in eighties nineties. For today they look quite outmood, oldschool.
my favorite could be number 8 althought it remindes to much Rem Koolhaa's Seattle library or Herzog&de Meuron's Prada Tokyo. Also 1, 6, 9, 13 are not worst. number 5 looks also trendy but not sure that good for the place in centre of Vilnius.

never, building scrapers is mostly Public relations, and a publicity stunt.. they were popular enough in Estonia so they didnt need a fancy highrise like Unionbank did...

Who's the architect of number 11? The design reminds me a lot of the bottem of Commezbank in Frankfurt.

My favorites are 7 and 11. Number 8 could also turn our quite okay IMO.

I'm starting to really love 12. IMO it's the best project of all from the architectural point of view not taking height into consideration (15-16 floors is still not bad) :okay:

It's made by the architect of Victoria Tower Rolandas Palekas, IMO one of the best Lithuanian architects, some visuals of his other projects can be found at http://www.palekas.lt/en :okay:

My vote goes to Palekas...

March 14th, 2005, 08:18 PM
i dont like Palekas work, too boxy (even though it isnt a box) and way too glassy, and a bit too fat for NCC, im afraid it could block other buildings from different views.

I really like 12th too - not so tall but its design is very nice and it could add much to NCC. 16 floors is enough, we should not forget that just behind it there will probably be some taller building built (I mean the one in Vyrokas complex).

7 is usable - but a bit too "sweet", like "Modern Talkin" songs, if somebody remembers them. Two antennas remind Shenzhen (Shun Hing Square), surface reminds "gherkin" in London. It can make Vilnius skyline more interesting, but not in the most tasty way -to my mind.
1 is not bad at all - quite simple and usual, but with a city feel.
3 should be joke.
6 is not bad at all. Have no idea, how it would look in real life - could be a bit aggressive?
8 would look great in real life, believe me. Would not mind to have it in Riga.
9 seems too aggressive for me.
11 - something similar and larger seen in Frankfurt. Good old 1980ies
13 - I rather like it.

At the end I say - 8.

I voted for 10. Quite simple but the model looks nice. A few other interesting nominees also, and some really odd ones like number 3! :D.. Haha now that's just stupid imho ;)
