Here's 4 panos I've taken of Townsville in the past few months. I know they're a bit dodgy but still give fantastic views of Townsville's skyline.

1 - from Castle Hill, stretching from North ward around to City West
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v376/Oriolus/CastleHillPano425.jpg

2 - from Victoria Bridge on a beautiful day, stretching about 270 degrees from Central Park on left around past the City to South Townsville
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v376/Oriolus/VicBridgePano425.jpg

3 - from Ross St, near the end of Palmer St with views of South Townsville and City backed by Castle Hill
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v376/Oriolus/Pano450.jpg

4 - from Mt Stuart, about 10km from the CBD and 584m up

I reckon. I was standing on the edge of a cliff at Mt Stuart that abseilers use and a cloud came through and it was really windy - debris was flying straight up the cliff face. If I jumped off I probably would have shot straight up. :)

Very cool Oriolus :)

Loving the last one showing how long the skyline is.

OMG. They sure have stacked 'em in in the apartment building in the 2nd pano. It's quite a huge building mass-wise.

The first one seems the most common for pano-makers lol to do.

Cheers.

Wow - Tropical City!!!

There are some great highrise projects going on in Townsville at the moment but everone forgets about the billions being spent on Industrial Projects and the Port of Townsville, also road infrastructure. Oh and the massive amount of sprawl that is occuring out west - which is kind of interesting.

Townsville - a city in the making!!

Just out of speculation Orio, do GPD have renders or so on for YWCA Site, but how do you know it would be approx 69m.
And don't forget about Portofino there too.

Wezza
March 16th, 2005, 09:01 AM
^ Ahh yeah.

Portifino (Resi) 9st. Approved. Construction to begin ??? I don't know if anyone knows when!

Oriolus
March 16th, 2005, 10:09 AM
Gertzy - no renders of GPD tower yet. I'd actually be suprised if it was ever proposed for full height, what with the site having an 8 storey height limit now- it'd take some real balls to say "I'd like approval for a building triple the height limit". The limits are lax but probably not that lax :)

I did read recently that all Gordon Property projects were still on track which is encouraging - maybe it will be proposed just not at 23 storeys?

Not a pano but I found this nice aerial. A little old but it shows the topography really well that includes Mt Stuart that Oriolus took the elevator up for the first pano to post. http://www.sayhey.co.uk/invboard/html/emoticons/wink.gif

It's actually Castle Hill in that pic :)
Years ago there was actually a plan for gondala rides up Castle Hill - it wont happen now because I think Highpoint Apartments (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v376/Oriolus/Highpoint.jpg) are built on the planned site of the base station. Would have been great but probably not financially viable.

Townsville port must be one of the largest in the country for area - look at all that new land!!!!
It's pretty big but would be much smaller than say Brisbane port wouldn't it? You can see the biggest sugar terminal in the world under construction on the right of the pic

Oriolus, i borrowed a couple of your panos to use in the Townsville rate the skyline poll. I hope you don't mind. I put your name there for the creds. :)

I don't think he would mind that, I did that with one of his photos of Mints Crane and he said he was cool with it but I reckon as long as you have the his name for Credits.

Oriolus

Course I don't mind - as long as its credited. Actually I put another pano (the Castle Hill one) one in the rate the skyline poll. Might sway a few more voters :)

I must admit that I hadn't seen photos of Townsville in a long time, and I'm really surprised by the city. It's attractive, and it's skyline is fairly impressive.

Here's another one I took yesterday from Melton Tce, on Melton Hill. It's shows (from left) Urban Quarter 2, Metro Quays, Holiday Inn with Northtown Building below it, than Suncorp Plaza on the right with Highpoint peeking out from the left and Stanley Place just visible on its right.

This one I call 'Honeycombes'. They practicly own this part of town. Their developments are (from left to right) Mint UC, Urban Quarter, Highpoint (up on the hill) and Metro Quays. Their next development (Central) will be on Ross Creek just upstream from Mint.

Another great pano anyway Oriolus! :okay:

Another pano I took last week from the reservoir on top of The Cutting above Sturt St. You can see the edge of the reservoir, which has a mural painted on it.

If that pic was a few months old, there would have been a possibility that either myself or some of my mates could have been on the second bottom end balcony at Highpoint!! Many a day were spent there drinking. :D (They've since moved) Anyhow, nice pic Mr Oriolus........Again! :)

As far as major regional centres go, Townsville just puts Geelong to shame, it would be funny if it weren't so tragic....So much nice new development....We need to have groups of people ready with pictures of Cairns, Newcastle and Townsville whenever somebody tries to exhibit civic pride about Geelong...
