Bikes March 15th, 2005, 06:37 PM 5km is quite big i would say! I love the tight turns and chicanes in this track, looks very promising. It reminds me a bit of Hungaroring, slow and tricky track which suits the best racers not the best engines...
messiah March 15th, 2005, 06:54 PM I can't wait anylonger too see the F1 cars on this track!!
Istanbullu March 15th, 2005, 07:07 PM The cheapest tickets are around 120 dollars! But i won't miss that race!!!
Kuvvaci March 15th, 2005, 07:11 PM Wonderful pix. :okay:

I don't think it looks at all like the Hungaroring. This track seems to have at least three very high speed curves (one a little after the start, one before the strait line at the farthest point of the track, and one opposite the pits that reminds me of the one at Suzuka). This track will be interesting as those curves promise to be very technical, meaning if you loose speed there, you are likely to be overtaken at the next sharp turn. Also promising because of the hills and slopes, not so common on modern tracks :-) A1 Ring was good for that.
All in all, an exciting track ^^ Looking forward to the race ^^
lffıs March 15th, 2005, 07:50 PM Yeah nice pics! I'm only a little bit dissapointed that this is another Tilke-track (F1 fans know what I mean). But it's great for Turkey and of course Istanbul. Always fun to see the cars on a new track! :)
falconi March 15th, 2005, 08:47 PM in cnn-turk they said, that 20% of the tickets are allready selled!!
Barsby March 16th, 2005, 11:44 AM as long as Webber gets on the podium i'll be happy :)
renell March 16th, 2005, 12:05 PM Hmm... I see some of those downhill runs and climbs, hey that's not too bad at all, quite a new innovation for Herman Tilke  Should be one of his better works.
Good on you, Turkey:happy:
tygryss-kr March 17th, 2005, 12:12 AM For me, it's absolutely stupid that all modern F1 Tracks are made by only ONE person - Mr. Herman Tilke. (malaysia, bahrain, china and now Turkey)
cello1974 March 17th, 2005, 12:43 AM Is this still Istanbul or already outside the city boundaries? Looks so green!
Kuvvaci March 17th, 2005, 01:00 AM of course not in the city, but not so out...It is the east part of the city...

Agreed 100%
The grandstands and location look great, but the track layout is quite bland. Gone are the chicanes and surface issues that make the better known tracks so great. It doesnt seem like any of the corners have any camber (positive or negative) and all the turns seem to have static radii. Well I guess it is only fitting that a boring form of motorsport gets a boring track. Anything more bland than this, and we are talking NASCAR.
Rapid April 3rd, 2005, 12:25 AM Better get finished before Aug 21, or alot of people will be dissapointed.
I have no doubts of that though.
skyperu34 April 3rd, 2005, 12:48 AM very nice updates !!!
DUBAI April 3rd, 2005, 01:57 AM i love the open corners and fast sections of this track! it looks like it will be great, different from tilke's others. i am concered at the length though, this may end up as an 80 lap race!
Kommandant Mark April 3rd, 2005, 05:37 AM Why are all these Third World countries hosting the F1, while we here in places like Toronto/Canada can only dream of such stuff?
Just kidding, of course. Turkey is not Third World.
Qatar4Ever April 3rd, 2005, 07:48 AM Maybe because these "third world" countries and developing in such a fast pace that they seem much better then places like canada.
Im not so sure about the track, it would be nice if someone can post some of the final renderings for this project so we can compare.
sirhc8 April 3rd, 2005, 08:04 AM ^
Anyone who is willing to pay somewhere in the region of $50 million to host a race will probably be allowed to do so. It has nothing to do with how nice the country itself is.
This track, like other Tilke tracks is rubbish.

DUBAI April 3rd, 2005, 05:33 PM ok, it is quite long, its just built in an unusual shape which makes it look shorter!
Grollo April 4th, 2005, 01:13 AM It is exactly the same length as the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne.

That's not the track, that's what you have to pay just for the right to hold an event.

I'd have to disagree with you, the Tilke tracks have provided some exciting races especially for overaking, and you've seen the last race in Bahrain and even the one before it, they're entertaining races. The tracks might be hard on brackin but it's part of the fun. I haven't seen the China one so I can't comment on that.
What's the capacity of this one, around 40,000 maybe? Keep up the good work Turkey, nearly there.

No disrespect, they're fantastic facilities. They just don't have that exceitment of Monaco, Spa, Suzuka or the old Hockenheimring.
I was a bit harsh, they're not rubbish, they're just not my favourite tracks.
skyscraperking2005 April 6th, 2005, 09:43 AM One of many reasons why Turkey is third world: its water generally is quite unclean (my Turkish friend says). And besides there is no point arguing, Turkey, at the moment is third world, but i hope this will get better with contining growth, adding to the strong economy that Turkey already has.

Tell me what makes Turkey to a third world country?
sirhc8 April 6th, 2005, 12:19 PM Turkey is first world. Check http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/third_world_countries.htm for lists of first, second and third world countries. Of course, there is a level of subjectivity to this but it's generally accurate.

If turkey is so first world how come many people are flocking to the United Kingdom and hardly the other way round. Also this map is wrong. How can south korea be third world and turkey not? Anyway, enough arguing turkey is third world everyone knows that.
messiah April 6th, 2005, 06:04 PM How many turks are living in UK?In addtion to this agean coasts are full og enlish people. They live their, this means UK is 3rd world? When I was in Spain I was told not to drink the water so Spain is third world now?

I respect your opinion :). They probably need time to get used to, with time they'll get the F1 soul.
Urban Girl April 6th, 2005, 08:15 PM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Developed_country
or write first world countries and Turkey to google;)
Turkey politically considered as a first world country.
Its economically considered as a "developing" first world country.
and some people's thoughts dont change the reality, Turkey is a first world country but it needs more time to become fully developed.

1)No more stupid off-topic fighting about who is third world and who is first world...blah...blah...blah... It's really getting old!! :bash:
2)More talking on-topic about this amazing track outside Istanbul and our favorite sport, Forumla One Racing!!!
By the way, look for me at the US Grand Prix in Indianapolis!! I'll be there overlooking the first hairpin turns. :) :) YAAAHHOOOOOO!!!!
And they had better let me bring my camera in, because I want to post some great close ups you won't see on any Formula One website.
ltsmotorsport April 20th, 2005, 08:50 PM Sounds good to me. I wish I was closer to Indy to go see that race.
Nick in Atlanta April 21st, 2005, 01:22 AM It's about an eight hour drive from Atlanta.
I know that they Formula One was trying to get a West Coast race going in Long Beach, but as they already have 19 races this year and are adding Cancun, Mexico, next year, I don't think there's much room in the schedule for one more race. Unless of course they drop one of the weaker race tracks like Silverstone in England. But their saving grace is that so many of the top racing teams have their headquarters within a few miles of Silverstone.

Silverstone's one of the better tracks on the circuit, the facilities just suck.

All I know is that Bernie Ecclestone, the basic owner of F1, has threatened to pull the race from Silverstone unless they do some major upgrades.

Yes, that's to do with facilities and transport - the track itself is great.

Yeah, there was also talk of having it at Laguna Seca, which would be way cool, but I don't think the trucks that F1 has couldn handle the roads around there. I don't know how CART did it or ALMS does it.

40748246 June 14th, 2005, 11:14 PM You know what? Maybe F-1 seems boring to you, but to me there are alot great passes to be seen during a race.It is more exciting also to watch an F-1 start than anything else in racing. Plus F-1 doesn`t need more3 chicanes to slow it down. After Senna, the F.I.A. went overboard with those damn chicanes! N.AS.C.A.R. to me is more exciting than C.H.A.M.P. car or I.R.L. Those forms of racing have no character to them at all!!
maxpowers20 June 14th, 2005, 11:57 PM Silverstone has crap facilities but its one of the best tracks! It has the highest average spped of all the tracks!
Agreed that Tilke should NOT have had all those contracts but I reckon this is his first good one! It has hills! Shanghai, Bahrain and Malaysia are all embarrassing! I'm hoping Bernie will figure this out and give Grand Prix to the best tracks, not the richest offers, then more beauties like Spa will be back!

ryanr August 17th, 2005, 10:16 PM A Las Vegas GP is doubtful after the disaster that was the US GP...it would be very cool though. :nocrook: :okay:
Last i heard they might move the US GP to Las Vagas from the brickyard because Indy officials are quite upset with what happened.
The Turkish circuit looks very nice indeed. I wish some areas were narrower tho.

Genç August 23rd, 2005, 07:28 AM Super race, super track. Well done!
Patrick Highrise August 23rd, 2005, 11:52 AM Yeah the track looks really great and hase some good corners in it as well were stuff always happen....de GP2 race in the wet btw on sunday was also good to see! :)
Lucky 24 August 23rd, 2005, 12:06 PM Just noticed this thread. I watched the race and it is indeed a beautiful track. The announcers just couldn't help saying good things about it....especially turn 8. Most of the drivers love it as well, some complained that it's hard on the neck, but that's the only remotely negative thing that i've heard.
Pengui August 24th, 2005, 05:10 AM Congrats, Turkey :-)
This track is a great addition to the championship... I'm expecting even better show next year as the teams and pilots will be more familiar with it and more willing to take risks ;-)
BondStreetBum August 24th, 2005, 09:30 AM TURKS:
British TV coverage of the GP was very complimentary about the new track. It was a big success with the media teams. Looked good from both the point of view of the race itself and various reports on the facilities and so on before the race. Job well done!

crazyevildude August 25th, 2005, 02:45 PM Fantastic track! A formula 1 race with over taking in it? What has the world come to? LMAO :).
Seriously love this track, turn 8 has become legendary already and I'm sure we'll see many more crucial moments there in years to come.
The biggest problems seems to be the inferstructure for getting to the place ( huge traffic jam etc) But I think those problems can be addressed by next year.
Well done Turkey :).
www.sercan.de August 25th, 2005, 03:15 PM actually the roads are good
but most turkish drivers didn't pay attention to the traffic signs and the majorits to late (they thought that it will take only 15 min)
crazyevildude August 25th, 2005, 04:30 PM Well that's even better, it's just been caused by people not knowing what to expect, it shouldn't be a problem at all next year. :)
