though I have a problem with much of the architecture since I'm not a big fan of that specific one inspired by Vienna. it's mostly the color of the modern day old buildings.
in any case, before the war, I think the capital was a much more beautiful city than it is now, after the commieblocks invaded.

Same with Belgrade, but at least Sofija kept its beautiful buildings whilst Belgrade lost its majority in WWII.:(

Unfortunately, a lot of these elegant buildings were either detroyed by the allies or pulled down by commies to open space for the stupid largo. I don't really know about Belgrad, is the old town more preserved? whwere's the oldBG thread?

Sofia is a very under-rated city. Hopefully the construction of that Nis-Sofia expressway will start soon so that the access to the city can be facilitated.

Много ме е яд за Мария Луиза. Някога в царска България е била улица, на която можеш да се прошеташ като господин човек. А сега е загубила блясъка си, вместо да създава приятно впечатление за столицата по пътя от гарите към центъра :ohno:

Булевардът се нуждае от един цялостен план за реновация и ще светне, има много потенциал там всвеки път като минавам от там си го мисля. Жалко ,че тук нещата обаче не се правят така и уж бяха приети някакви наредби от общинския съвет за историческият център на София, ама те на нищо и няма изгледи нещо да започне скоро да се прави както трябва. И за това красиви къщи се рушат по булеварда, а се строят разни грозотии, бинга, чалгаджийници и бутки за бърза храна - ебати простотията.

the world wars destroyed a lot of buildings, but whatever was left over was left to rot. We don't cherish and in turn ruin our cultural heritage. Sofia was a beautiful city. Did you notice that a lot of the then gardens are now built on. damn shame

Доколкото знам е била твърде малка,което всъщност може да се забележи на снимките.За това са я съборили и са издигнали сегашната голяма и грозна Централна гара ;) .

Малка - голяма, можеше да я съхранят като културен паметник и да построят новата в съседство. :ohno:

Така е, но за щастие това са неща, които могат да бъдат възстановени. Важното е засега да се поддържат сградите и НЯКОЙ ден, когато хората имат повечко пари и си купят и вкус, ще може да се направи отново.

За естетическите качества на гарата може да има много мнения, все пак ако си запознат с теченията в арх. през 70те години - мисля ,че гарата изглежда доста добре като строена в този период. Отделно при построяването си е най-голямата, модерна и най-добре проектирана гара в югоизточна европа - с инфраструктурата си, системата си от подлези и т.н.

Самият екстериор на сградата има съвсем приличен модернистически вид и не случайно в плановете за реконструкция се предвижда запазване на неговата линия и идея. А самата сграда + цялата система имат потенциал с не много средства да станат напълно съвременни съоражения.

хаотично имах предвид локацита , че за да я построят са съборили старата , няма значение колко е била малка , можеше да измислят нещо .
проблема на голяма част от големите соц сгради навсякъде в БГ е че са строени върху стари сгради от зората на градовете ни , кои са били с по малка арх. стойност и кои с голяма и в двата случая не са били пощадени ... това е причината да и кaжа хаотична , а че има потенциал има.
( леко късен reply ама какво да се направи :lol: )

Аз в момента уча в Рим който е бил бомбардиран през войните но после сградите са били раставрирани в оригиналния си вид...всеки ъгъл е запазен градът има огромен исторически цантър които ревниво се пази...а и я няма тази мания за модерни и луксозни сгради които не се вписват никаде...София е била прекрасна..днес..сива :(

Hristaki, this is full-blooded late 19th century Sofia, the way it really unfolded before the photo camera, crawling with peasants from the capital surroundings, genuine and romantic. Bulgaria had cast off the Turk like a decade ago. The progress we were making at that time made a deep impression on foreign observers. A young nation eager to catch up with the rest and even take them over.

It's not late 19th century. It's early 20th century. Around 1910. Many of the pictures are from the days of the proclamation of Bulgarian independence in 1908.

To tell you the truth, I am not too eager to sign the petition.

1) The house itself does not hold much of an architectural value
2) The owner/investor in the future "Shipka Residence" has made a pretty good job in previous historical constructions.

The owner/investor Bulgarian Construction House (http://www.bg-house.com/en_index.html) has had 3 such historical properties.

1) Oborishte House (http://www.bg-house.com/en_%D0%9A%D1%8A%D1%89%D0%B0_%D0%9E%D0%B1%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B8%D1%89%D0%B5_complex_19.html) - Great job and they made sure to keep the original facade of the building :okay:

2) Oborishte Residence (http://www.bg-house.com/en_%D0%A0%D0%B5%D0%B7%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BD%D1%86%D0%B8%D1%8F_%D0%9E%D0%B1%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B8%D1%89%D0%B5_complex_20.html) - Even though the original house had to be destroyed, the investors made sure to reconstruct its facade to the best of their ability and from my perspective the whole project looks pretty good. Also the house itself did not hold much of an architectural value.

3) The future Shipka Residence (http://www.bg-house.com/en_%D0%9A%D1%8A%D1%89%D0%B0_%D0%A8%D0%B8%D0%BF%D0%BA%D0%B0_complex_22.html) - Except for the front facade with the figure and the arches, the rest of the building is not that significant in architectural terms. Here is what it is supposed to look like.

Господи, ужасно е! Наистина трябва да се направи нещо, за да се спаси сградата. И много, много жалко за Oborishte Residence, модерната част изглежда добре, но бутафорно вписаната "стара" къща ... просто не се прави така. :bash: А старата сграда е изглеждала наистина много добре и се е пасвала много добре с цялостната атмосфера на улица "Оборище". Тук (Германия) никой не смее да пипне такова архитектурно наследство, правено е 60-те основно и после е преценено като огромна грешка. Първият им проект е много добър (Oborishte House), но на мен ми изглежда като реставрация.

Всъщност сградите на Оборище на живо изглеждат изключително добре. Днес дори минавайки оттам си мислех, колко ми харесват.

А сега видях и къщата за която е подписката..Смешното е, че точно днес нея я забелязах за първи път и си помислих колко по-добре би изглеждала ремонтирана. :D

Първият им проект е много добър (Oborishte House), но на мен ми изглежда като реставрация.

Оборище хауз е реставрация. Самата конструкция не е пипана (май с изключение на покрива). Имам едно списание от преди няколко години, където подробно се обяснява процеса на обновяване. А Оборище резидънс е хубава като сграда, но не се вписва в контекста на улица Оборище, да не говорим, че самата "вградена" къща е пълна бутафория - липсата на големия купол, балконите и пр. елементи практически означават унищожаване на оригиналната постройка.

Well, those buildings were replaced exactly by the government back then, because they were not big and functional enough any more. The new buildings were constructed according to the contemporary standards of the time. I don't think anyone should spend money on turning back time, no matter how much I like the original buildings.

+1 :okay: Besides the buildings of the new post office and the new ministry of defence(not much different than the old ministry of war one) are quite good.

От коя ли година е снимката? Би трябвало със сигурност след 1895 г. Тогава с. Подуене е присъединено към столицата като квартал. Господинът пешеходец вдясно на втората снимка с поседналите софиянци носи навуща. Междувременно сред опашката изправени чакащи се виждат предимно лица в градско облекло.

Това са вероятно новите софиянци :)

Снимките са от "Илюстрована седмица" (http://stara-sofia.blogspot.com/2013/01/blog-post_2.html), което започва да излиза през 1923 година. Така като гледам, става дума за този период, вероятно около 1925 година.
