to get it started:
does anybody have new photos of doha landmarks? if so, i would appreciate your permission to upload them to emporis.
the former editor there has uploaded crap and the section has been dead for ages, but i see light at the end of the tunnel!!! :)
what still puzzles me is the doha city centre. if you check it on emporis you will find several smaller towers of about 15 floors or so. what's u with these, is everything correct with them???!!!
PHOTOS PLEASE along with permission! ;)

so you say that the following towers will not be built?
city center I
city center II
...
city center VIII
the former editor has changed them under construction status
are you really sure these 8 towers (16 to 30 floors) within doha city center will not be built? if yes, confirm it for me and i will delete these buildings from emporis

I'm sorry, I did the best I could ! there wasn't much in Qatar then, plus I didn't have a digicam (and I still don't). I think our Qatari friends could help improve Qatar's page, I can't since I don't live there anymore.

why does qatar national olympic comittee need a 30 floor building?
is there a like 5 floors for every delegate it sends?
or 1000 officials? or is it just a business tower with this name?!
manojp_mp
August 18th, 2005, 08:57 AM
Source 26,
QNOC Tower is not a business tower with Olympic committee logo on top.Qatar is country where sports and games are taken very seroiously, all the sports federations such as Football federation, Basketball Federation etc are all very active here. QNOC building houses all these federations , Qatar Sports Investment Company ( which is goverment venture) etc. In addition to these administrative depart5ments, Finance, Sports facilities Installation department, Maintenance Department, Public relations department etc are also in the same building :cheers1: trust this clarifies your doubt.

Hi all,
just to update you..
the project of the national library is on hold..
the reson is very simple.. it could not be built
the whole construction is ased on the body of the building being on the top of huge columns..
i have heared that when ever they start with the coulmns a problem occure, and if you noticed there is nothing going on the site..
honestly speaking i'm glad its stoped.. i never liked the design its very ugly and does not fit with the surrounding area..
don't you thinkit will look like (Grendizer) laying on the Doha coniche??

hello QatariDiar,
let me welcome you warmly to the forum. i'm sure your contributions will be highly useful & appreciated.
as for the national library, the chairman of NCCAH, dr gafood, stated last march that the constrction will go on, but was delayed for further reviewing, without going into further details. but my sources says, that the emir himself wanted the design to be slightly modified....wi allah a3lam.
i don't know why you don't like the design ya azizi, it's so beautiful & very futurestic.

I loved its original design...its a shame we cant built it in its original vision..that what we have to pay to get the lowest costing builder...it one of those very few designs in whatever period people look at it will never loose its beauty or the style look dated..the finance ministry building is an example...still looks wonderful even after all these years...would be a good idea to demolish the white extention of that building.
I am very much looking forward for this project to come up ...would be really great to sit on its steps and watch the corniche of the future...would be an excellent vantage point also

Dear (Wakrah-wi-bas):
thanx for the warm welcome, i'm reall honord to be part of this forum..
regards the design, what i really don't like it about it is that it does not fit with the surrondings.. it is too huge.. i always believed that all buildings on the corniche should be low rise and then gradually rise behind it so all buildings have view of the sea.. maybe the location of the building have the biggest impact, if you look at sheraton hotel or Islamic musuem, the design perfectly fits with he location.. just can't imagine passing by corniche street with this giant buildings.. just personal opinion..
another thing is that i have read once that this is one of Arata Isozaki (the architect) first or ealy design.. it was his dream to see this building on real life.. so i started thinking if this is one of th WOW designs why did he needed to ait for 3 decades to build it here in Doha.. i think we deserve a well designed building that is customized for the need of us.. i will try to find this article and share it with you..
just to clarify it not that i don' like the design, i just think it des not fit right in that location..
one last thing.. anh azizti not azizi :)

let me share with you this short brief about the components of the musuem..
The building, which in the drawings seems to vibrate in the air as if about to take off, will be made up of three elements.
The ground floor will house the Contemporary Art Museum, along with a Museum of Science and Natural History with a large common entrance area.
The two museums will be housed in a podium structure 9 metres high, from which three imposing columns 120 metres tall and 18 metres in diameter will rise.
These columns constitute the true operative and functional heart of the project, as they will not only be the site of visitors' vertical movements but form the central core around which the rooms of the National Library will be built.
All five levels will bend around the three columns between 60 and 93 metres above the ground. These "wings" will make the building look as if suspended in the air, giving the complex a particularly imposing, evocative appearance.
The lowest of them will house the children's library, offices and technical rooms.
The biggest of the levels will measure 7,000 square metres and house the bookshelves and reading rooms. Visitors will be guided through two entrances: one on the western side, where the parking lots are located, and another on the portico to be built on the seaward side, with a view of the Corniche. The complex will also include a coffee-shop and a large restaurant at the top of the three columns offering a fantastic view out over Doha Bay.
The lot on which the complex is to be built measures over 50,000 square metres, and the building's total surface area will be 22,000 square metres.
The arrangement of the three columns at the corners of an imaginary triangle accentuates the dynamism of this imposing structure, which is also underlined by the step structure of the 7 levels, which gradually grow wider as they rise upward.
The "wings" overlooking the Corniche are longer than those at the back, so that the building looks as if it is about to "take off".
check this site for some images..

THe tower looks wonderful. I like the way how the steel supports contrast the glass (as if holding the midsection) and how nature gets incorporated within the whole architectural element in two districtive gardens. Nice design.
By the way, do you happen to have to have the back fascade, too? Its interesting to see if there are differences.

CONSER guy
August 9th, 2006, 04:02 PM
actually the render is a bit of a cheat, it is not in the exact location, the tower would have had a 60 degree angle facing the corniche due to the land plot. The background picture was the only one we had that was close to the original plot.

Conserguy, thank you so much for these. The back section looks like a copy of the front. Actually, I think the 60 degrees plot of land facing the cornishe is a bit to this buildings advantage--had it been built of course--since the curvature of the building and its distinct leaning fascade will allow it to have architectural appeal. The second building looks like as you said 50's avante guard block type buildings.
But both are quite facinating really.
Massilia
August 10th, 2006, 11:20 AM
I definitely enjoy the first proposal! Would have liked to see it for real! :uh:
The second one has style, but not for Doha imo...
And who did win that Navigation Tower competition?
Is the final render the one that we know?? :

I think the current design is phenominal. The lack of straight lines in the design makes it suitable for a "naviagation" themed building--as it appearing to be sail-shaped.

You have to activate the bluetooth on the PC/Laptop. For the laptop, you will find it in the control panel. For the PC, you will have to use the program that comes with the stick...
Are you sure the laptop has no bluetooth? It must be quite old then...

Aha.. lool.. Doesn't this look like SOUQ SHARQ IN KUWAIT?

August 19th, 2006, 09:43 AM
Frankly I've never been to Kuwait before... I have no idea...
But still, it looks really good from the inside.
My only wish is that the restrooms would stay clean (hope I don't sound disgusting here). But, really the ones in Landmark and City Centre need some serious attention...
BTW qatar son 333, I can guess. Your parents are probably the ones standing on the left with the shopping cart waiting for SOMEONE to take some pics... Right? :D

By the way, i found something really cooll!!! hehehe
It's a tower animation for the Silhouette Tower in Qatar done by ColorID (A forum member at http://www.cgarchitect.com)
First you have to download the program to see it because it is a video.. from Swiff Player (http://www.globfx.com/products/swfplayer/) , then click here to download the winziped folder (http://rapidshare.de/files/21302908/QTS.zip.html) but as the previous one, wait for the countdown to end... The music is awesome.. he really did a nice job!
You can check his post at this forum (http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/17158-tower-animation.html#post118990)
