Beautiful! I heard that Brisbane's metro is like 1.8 million. Does their metro includes the Gold Coast?? I saw the city featured prominently on SHARK WEEK on the Discovery Channel. It looks gorgeous and appears to be similar to Miami, Florida with the canals, beaches, condos. etc.

your probably thinking of the gold coast regarding the canals, beaches and condos - yes gold coast is very miami but on a smaller scale. it has a population of 500k but is seperate to the brisbane metro (for now). though its still part of the south east queensland region (SEQ) which has a pop. of roughly 3 million (which also comprises of a few other councils included the sunshine coast which has a pop of about 250k - sorta like the gold coast but obviously smaller and with much less highrise). But your correct in your assumption that Brisbanes population is about 1.8 million but is rapidly approaching the 2 million mark.

7/10. It's a good-looking - not great - skyline, but it's certainly impressive for a city of 1.8 million. What's really striking about Brisbane's skyline is how rapidly it has improved, and how much improvement is to come. Only a few years ago, I would have probably rated it a 5 or 6 out of 10. In a few years time, once the current 'under-constructions' are completed, I will probably be giving it an 8 or 9.

I'd love to see more recent photos, if anyone has some.

Actually the abs had Brisbane's ERP at 1,820,400 in July 2006. Growing at about 2% a year. So it would be about 1,856,808 now.

It's getting harder & harder to tell where Brisbane ends & the Gold Coast starts when driving between the 2. It's pretty much development all the way.

I was up there mid-07, there is still plenty of buffer space between Brissy and the GC. But yes, the suburbia is spreading and wouldn't be surprised if they meet within the next 10 years.

Is Gold Coast and Brisbane ever considered one metro area in Australia? A similar issue exists in many places around the world where 2 or more metro areas begin to grow into one with no 'green space' between them.

It isn't considered as one Metro area, however there is a designation of South East Queensland which also includes the Sunshine Coast, to the North of Brisbane.

there is much to improve in brisbane skyline and its quite impressive looking at the city riding the citycat but still i'd give it a 8/10 but in couple of years time once vision and a whole bunch of other buildings are complete would get a higher rating

Oh yeah i will give it a 9.Because i really like the glass and the concrete isnt thaty bad an i like the way the concrete buildings are done but the setting is stunning .

Brisbane has seen some amazingly dramatic changes for the last few years; the whole city is getting a renewal and it has seen many ambitious projects recently which are aimed at pushing Brisbane's reputation to match or even overtake Sydney's and Melbourne's. As a result, Brisbane's current skyline is still a work in progress and as the fastest growing city in Australia, it has some significant potential for the near future.

What Brisbane can look like by 2015 (All of these towers are either proposed, approved or U/C):

^^Sorry, but the first pic was only ever purely speculative - most of the buildings in it were just put there to indicate a possible outcome (and are actually buildings from other cities around the world). Also, a few of the towers that are shown have either been cancelled, or at the very least postponed, and will be incredibly unlikely to be completed by 2015.

On top of all of that, some of the buildings that are basically confirmed to go ahead (111 Eagle St, Soleil Tower, etc...) are not shown on either of those pictures.

So, in a nutshell, both of those pictures do not give any kind of indication whatsoever on how Brisbane will look in the future.

I like the height with antenna (249m) and I think One One One Eagle with it's blue glass will break up the Riparian/Riverwide 'beige-stone' vibe there ;)

I think Brisbane looks better in reality than in photos.

The way the towers run along the river and the lush, tropical atmosphere is pretty cool.

What it lacks in quality it makes up in quantity and density. I like the compact look of the skyline

I like how Soleil and it's slimness frames the northern end of the city centre...

not bad !!! 8.5 need a modern tall building to refresh the city skyline.

I grew up in Brisbane and it always felt like the bridesmaid city - I think that's changed now and Brisbane is now truly fierce :nocrook:

9/10, personally I think it is Australia's best because of the density combined with the newer building's quality. The way it has been constructed around the river brings it up a bit too.

Indeed. I was only looking at photos the other week from a few years ago (5 yrs - a decade), and there was really nothing nice about the skyline... Now there's 111 Eagle, Soleil, 400 George Street, Santos, Brisbane Square.. etc.
