I rate the skyline 9.5 there are more new buildings and the population is around 600,000 it is next to Brisbane and they are both fast growing cities!

I see people compare-it to Dubai.

For me GC is like a "natural beauty", and Dubai is a "fake with big silicon breasts". Impresive but not estetic.

I think the GC has a much better SL than Wellington, BUT Wellington is a mucm more beautiful city (IMO) with so much more character.

Wellington's skyline does not beat the GC's in terms of building heights, number of skyscrapers, architectural design or any other way.

^^Yeah, it's amazing how far the skyline went in just a few years. Just compare these recent images with the ones posted on first 2 pages of this thread. The cluster at the centre with the Q1 as the centrepiece and the Circle on Cavill near it really defines the skyline. And the Soul Tower currently under construction (below) is set to have another impact on the skyline.

Except that the Gold Coast has Q1 which is substatintially taller than anything Miami City has right now. There also happens to be approval for 2 more which are also taller. If you are talking about Miami Beach then Q1 is almost double the height of the tallest current tower there.

Love this one. I think a lot of the shots in this thread focus so much on the skyline that they lose the natural beauty of the Gold Coast. The beach, the water and the endless sunshine are unparalleled.

South East Queensland's recent boom has definately bolstered Brisbane and the Gold Coast's skylines up a great deal. There's quite a number of projects under construction in the Gold Coast currently but I can't wait for Soul, Hilton Surfers and the Oracle towers to be completed. They'll make a tremendous difference to the skyline.

The other towers currently under construction will make a difference too but after the completion of those three, Gold Coast should look like a little Dubai here (the first two are quite old):

Its funny how the Gold Coast looks as big as New Youk in some of the photos from until you see it from another angle and realise it is only one building deep. At the moment way to many tacky looking hotels. In 5 to 10 years time when all the current projects are built it will rival the the best skylines in Aus

As a whole this skyline is awesome. Especially from a distance. Very impressive. As individual buildings... I can't wait until they take down some of those 80's highrises and replace them with the likes of Q1.

Dont think so..Rio is much more cosmopolity and bigger in all therms comparing to Gold. I think we can compare GC with Miami, Balneário Camboriú, Floripa...not Rio.

He's right, the Gold Coast has 4 buildings over 150m, compared with 27 in Miami. (from Emporis)

As much as people like to compare the two cities, it's really like comparing oranges with apples. Miami is home to 5,410,000 people. The Gold Coast... 600,000. With that said, Miami has roughly the same amount of buildings as the Gold Coast (300 -- regardless of size). So for a city with a population 9x smaller than Miami, I think that the Gold Coast definitely pulls a substantial amount of weight, to the point which it is juxtaposed against cities like Miami, Rio etc.

The Gold Coast has a good nightlife. One of the best in Australia, if I do say so myself. The close proximity to Brisbane (50 odd miles north of the Gold Coast) which also has a good nightlife and is home to the largest number of clubs/pubs/bars in Australia. So by coming here, you get to experience the laid-back beach culture of the Gold Coast, and the city hustle-and-bustle of Brisbane (pop. 2million) within an hour train ride of one another.

There's no doubt that the Gold Coast punches above its weight. But nearly all of the Gold Coast metro area's buildings are in its central skyline, whereas the row of beachside suburbs of greater Miami, listed separately from its central skyline, contain most of the highrises of the Miami metro area.

The central skylines of Miami and the Gold Coast both have roughly 280 of at least 12 stories.
But the Miami metro area has over 1000, compared to roughly 290 in the Gold Coast metro area.
For the record, the municipality of Rio de Janeiro alone contains 2500, not including the rest of its metro area.

Actually its true.

Nowhere in Sydney or Melbourne comes close to Fortitude Valley. You have to see it to believe it, its like nowhere else in Australia.

Melbourne and Sydney on the other hand are full of little nightclub precincts spread over vast areas. Small places like Oxford St in Sydney and Chapel Street in Melbourne - but nothing the size of The Valley.

You're right. Being 17, I can only risk going clubbing on the Gold Coast and Brisbane with a fake ID, therefore my opinion is only based on my experience in the two cities (which I find Brisbane to be the better of the two). However, with a mere four cities (GC, Melb, Syd, Bris) offering a decent nightlife, I don't find it any stretch of the imagination to presume that the Gold Coast is one of the better (though still presumably ranked 4th amongst the bigger cities). As for live music, there are pubs, clubs and bars on the Gold Coast which offer a variety of live music though it only really exists once you get away from glitter and glamour which is Orchid Avenue and Cavill Avenue etc.

The Gold Coast never ceases to amaze me how with such a small population it can have such an amazing skyline, one that would be worthy of a city with a much larger population.
I assume since most of these are residential & would cater for tourists/locals etc.

The Gold Coast looks AMAZING! Very impressed. I must say though, from afar it looks very dense, but those aerial shot says otherwise

^^It's come a long way in recent years, but the problem is, no one is willing to give up their ocean or hinterland views. Also, seeing as the majority of buildings are either residences, hotels or a mix of the two, they tend to have long, over-the-top driveways with water fountains, numerous pools and tennis courts etc... making it virtually impossible to build with buildings touching due to the large footprint.

It's still considered a 'dense' residential area (by Australian standards) with a density of approximately 4,000 people per km2.
