Pretty bland design IMO. The architect should of used more creativity for this building. This and WestOne should be the sequel to the HVE towers.

That's bad. The massing is horrid, the roof even worse.

Yuck! Unless it has some brick too it which would at least be a change from the constant green glass and precast.

Then again, it's so horrid that not even brick will be able to save this one.

Actually this looks like a tiny bit more than an elevation but hardly a rendering... and it does indeed mimic the much taller West One, which has been well received.

God is in the details, and you don't have any of those... just a friendly reminder.

P.S. forgot to mention that the "Leaning Tower of N1" effect is very dramatic.. so that alone alone makes it special.... :)

lol. :)
But this is the real render for N1, it might change but this is the render they used in the ad that I cutted out from.

Yet one more block in the Gardiner saving wall!!

In any event, the volume of buildings - the truly stunning volume in this 'little Vancouver' area - will compensate for any one building's mediocrity.

In a few years; travelling through the Gardiner (if we suppose it will be still around which I'm certain it will) it will be like going through a tunnel. it's gonna be stunning.:tongue2:

You realize we are going to have to listen to are be run that same line by us for every single building built within a km of the Gardiner eh?

I'm still optimistic mostly the architectural firm is KPMB and quality of the rendering absolutely sucks (imagine how any of the cityplace buildings would look as a black & white line drawing)

Hey Travis007,

Did the ad mention anything else? I live in vancouver and am considering investing in cityplace to live...

Thanks for the help

Add 30 stories, and thats probably what signature is going to look like.

No, but you can register for 'priority viewing'. It is supposively real cheap, starting around 240-250 per sq foot. But my recommendation if you want to like at Cityplace, buy one of the exisitng Matrix/Apex buildings. Its a lot better situated in my opinion.

Or better yet, look at Murano2. I just registered myself.

I love Are Be's permanent state of sarcasm.

A whole city of mediocre buildings! Let's copy those screwball Vancouverites! 0+0+0=1!

Ugly looking building. It reminds me of those old apartments towers on Isabella.

I guess this is what you get for $250/sq/ft. No doubt it will be glad in glass and those cheap looking puke green panels. YAY.

Are there any high-end buildings proposed for Cityplace?

We'll, you probably don't have to wait. It'll be the same 3-4 famous R Bisms that you hear over and over again.

Ever since I put RB on my ignore list, I've enjoyed this forum so much more.

Ease of use. Shorter threads. New thoughts instead of the same old "cut and paste.. I want u to be miserable like me" posts.... it has been truly invigorating... all with one little preference!

Not really, just a lot of bs about how inovative this building should be. You should try looking on the website. www.cityplace.com

I'm thinking of adding "The Great Condo Retail Battle: Rabba Fine Foods vs Kitchen Table!"
This N1 tower, for example, might have BOTH kinds of retail, Rabba and Kitchen Table!

How many more phases until Signature?

If signature is the last phase, then there are 9 more phases.

Travis007
March 25th, 2005, 11:55 PM
^Yup,
1.Apex
2. Apex II
3.Matrix I
4.Matrix II
5. Optima
6. HVE I
7.HVE II
8.HVE III
9.HVE Iv
10.WestOne
11.N1
12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19.????
20.Signature Tower??

I'm not sure if "The Gallery" should be considered a phase...its a low-rise loft building.

KGB
March 26th, 2005, 12:43 AM
That's the one flip-flop with Cityplace...they were marketing Signature right after HVE...then dropped it while they were actually marketing it. I'm not sure why they did that...obviously something went wrong....I assume full approval was not coming soon enough...so they just decided to go with the next phase so as to not miss a moment's loss in marketing more units.

So, since they intended Signature to be already on the market, will they simply drop it in between the next phase if full approval comes? What is the problem anyway...the size was beyond what has already been approved by the city way back when...when it was only 56 floors or something?

I remember reading a while back in the globe that signature Tower was being re-designed. something about making it a 'green' building.

but your right that the building was launched some time ago but fell off the radar. here's a blurb from a realtor's website who still has it listed for some reason:

"Name: The Signature Tower Of Cityplace

A sleek glass tower heralding what may end up being the highest building in Canada, located immediately west of The Skydome.
With a proven track record with it's first twin tower high rises (Apex, Matrix, Optima and Harbour View Estates) Concord Adex will launch around March 1, 2003.0
Like most Cityplace developments, this upscale skyscraper has it's own 25M indoor pool, multi-purpose gym, "Sky Lounge", aerobics studio, cardio and weight traning, steam room, billiards, outdoor patio and business centre.
TO GET IN ON THE GROUND FLOOR BEFORE IT LAUNCHES CONTACT ME TODAY!!!!! Register today!"

http://www.simplycondos.com/condos/toronto/condos/condo_images/Q_Z/citysig.gif

there's even floor plans
http://www.simplycondos.com/condos/toronto/floorplans/images/cityplace/signature/sig983.gif

from another realtor's website (who shows it current too)
"Cityplace - 60 story residential tower at Skydome - shall I say more - from $149,900 "

If I was a Cityplace owner/resident... I would know that I was in for some serious construction noise/inconvenience a little longer, east of Spadina.

But 5 or 6 years is enough, then it's time to start enjoying your neighbourhood.

The east to west evolution of Cityplace makes sense of course, but even though I look forward to seeing Sig rise, I'll bet a bunch of folks will be pissed that it was held back... just when you got the windows cleaned and the nosie stopped... and Sig will obviously take a while to rise.

Kinda rotten on Concord's part... not that they give a shit.

C'mon Skybean, you should know that the glass will end up being the same as all the other Cityplace buildings.

March 30th, 2005, 04:03 AM
If it looks anything like the rendering.. there looks to be different colours of glass. it will break the trend of bluish glass from HVE. Who knows-- this may possibly the best Cityplace condo yet!!!

Love the bluish glass, get that green crud away from me.

Mike in TO
March 30th, 2005, 05:00 PM
The glass won't be two colours.

I'm sure that it just shows what suites are being released - likely the first 'phase' of N will sell off the bottom half of the condo and a second 'phase' will sell off the top half - thus the colour differentiation.

or it is just some kind of attempt at a reflection of the lake or something like that - I can't possibly see then changing the exterior curtain wall colour half way up the tower.

:hahaha:
Good one! Nice to have a good laugh at lunchtime! Not that I don't agree with you, I simply don't see anything other than green glass. To my understanding, blue glass requires semi - precious jewels, or titanium oxide, or some other 'not- gonna- happen' expensive ingredient, whereas green, to my understanding, is achieved, by allowing a natural 'defect' or impurity in the glass to remain. (Or, the addition of some readily available agent.)

Travis007
March 30th, 2005, 11:39 PM
^ Actually Are Be, HVE didn't use green glass. More of a tealish blue.

Also I don't think N1 will have 2 colours of glass. Look, One wall Centre in Vancouver has 2 colours of glass and I don't think that made the building any better. It was better off with the darker blue. If 1WC couldn't pull it off by having a nice buidling with 2 colours of glass then I doubt that N1 could. Speaking of One Wall Centre, do you think Cityplace could have a buidling as nice as this though?

I hope Istrian won't mind if I use his pic for a demonstration:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v299/istrian/CityPlace.jpg

This kind of glass is OK. When it's green like Apex, I don't like it. It's not horrible, I guess. However, I don't see the semi-blue glass HVE has as costing all that much more as compared to the Apex glass.
