New Orleans, Louisiana, aka "The Big Easy".

I've posted these over on SSP back in January, but I thought this might be a good time to post them over here. Seems like we rarely get to see large scale threads of some places that deserve them, so I thought a New Orleans thread might be good suprise for everyone about now.

Enjoy!!!!

hey isnt N.O. below sea level? How did such big buildings get built with foundations below sea level.. its amazing... how did they prepare the buildings for the water table?

NO has definately got the most urban downtown in the south.
moreso than houston, dallas, & miami imo.

A huge number of concrete pilings. For example, ONE SHELL SQUARE's (50 stories, 697 feet) pilings were driven down more than 200 feet into the Earth's mantle. I remember that pile-driving operation from 1970-71. That building isn't going anywhere.

And great pics, Rural King.
Nicely done!

New Orleans is an awesome town. I always kick myself for not settling on Tulane when I had the chance. They still have a pretty persistent problem with segregation and crime, but you can't beat New Orleans when it comes to the incredible jazz scene. In fact, when I was there last time, I went to see a band play at the Funky Butt. Turns out their drummer couldn't make it because of some other engagement, but Jason Marselis (as in the brother of Winton) decided to fill for him.
Naturally I couldn't believe it but my friend, who lived there, told me that kind of stuff happened all the time. Damn I wish I had gone there.

So many people love to put New Orleans down. However, when I see pics like the one's you posted, Rural, it makes me realize how great it is to live here.

^ Glad they make you feel good about your city. New Orleans is definately a great city and it was great to visit there. I definately want to come back down there soon. It was very relaxing and refreshing to travel in New Orleans and Southern Louisiana, which is something I don't find to often when I travel.

You bet I feel that way about New Orleans. Sure...I can complain about it like most people complain about the cities in which they live. However....this city does have some charm.

Thanks for all the new positive feedback over the last few days. Great to see people are liking the subject matter and find my pictures to be of good quality!! I really try to capture as much of the look and feel of the city as one would see in first person as possible.

You did New Orleans justice.....even much more could be shown. One day, I'll post another New Orleans thread and go even further in capturing this City. It's hard to capture, but, it's the spirit in this city that thrives more than anything else...

I think the "Original American Bohemia" title rings true in Nola. People were being weird there LONG before San Francisco or Austin...
