mlm March 23rd, 2005, 04:22 PM When I saw the first one I thought it was the winner....thank good it wasn't:D
The winning design is interesting, but not the one I would have chosen.
ch1le March 23rd, 2005, 04:23 PM a bit dissappointing... not too tall, seems very bulky, i dont like :(
John March 23rd, 2005, 04:29 PM It's yet unclear which one will get built, negotiations will be continued with all 3 candidates and in the end the only one will be chosen. Let's pray it's not the 3rd one :|
And my favorite design is by Palekas :okay:
SkeiTeriS March 23rd, 2005, 04:30 PM Yes, I dont like this project too :(
ch1le March 23rd, 2005, 04:34 PM of the three i would also go with Palekas
John March 23rd, 2005, 04:35 PM I think Palekas's design was the best of ALL competing designs (22 in total). It's about as high as the the winning design by Ambrasas (about 16 floors) but alot more massive what I kinda like. In reality it should look spectacular. :)
sander March 23rd, 2005, 04:36 PM First on looks very small and third one is weird. I like the second one altough it might be thinner.
ch1le March 23rd, 2005, 04:39 PM @ John even more massive then winning design? yuck... Ncc for me isnt about massive its about tall and slim, big boxes just isnt my cup of tea...
John March 23rd, 2005, 04:41 PM @ John even more massive then winning design? yuck... Ncc for me isnt about massive its about tall and slim, big boxes just isnt my cup of tea...
No, there should be all kinds of buildings. Tall buildings make the skyline look nice while massive and lower buildings form better urban feeling and density. Canary Wharf is the best example, if you've been there you know what I mean. ;)
ch1le March 23rd, 2005, 04:48 PM John true true true! But were talking about a Bank building here, it does give urban texture but nothing as what Viru centre (a massive building) gave Tallinn. I havent been to canary wharf (shacks, mby when i was 6) so im not quite sure. Massive should go with a shopping centre or a apartment... then again, how much do i know :P Lets wait and see how it turns out..
you see once the offices close it will be a dead shell ...
edit2: For urbanity, hmm the 3rd winner would be the greatest contributer... imo
Estboy March 23rd, 2005, 04:49 PM there were so nice renders, but the winner doesn't look so cool:(
Gatis March 23rd, 2005, 06:15 PM Usable but not too inspiring.
Oberleutnant March 23rd, 2005, 06:39 PM NCC doesn't need more tall buildings to look better, it would be completely fine the way it is now as far as high-rises go. What it needs is mid-rises (ie. ordinary ~ 4-16 story urban buildings one can find from city center).
The way I see NCC:
tall buildings are the bones and the skeleton
"ordinary" buildings are the flesh around them
Thus, massiveness = good.
Palekas' design is something that would look good just about anywhere.
John March 23rd, 2005, 06:59 PM ^^^
That's an excellent point of view, I completely agree here. That's one of the reasons why I liked Palekas's design. And it's not too low as well (I counted 16 floors). The only thing which might be out of place is masiveness, it might be a little too massive for NCC, it looks more like something what could fit in Canary Wharf or Pudong surrounded with highrises of 50-60 storeys high. On the other hand it could be a good precedent for more massive buildings what without a doubt would be a great thing. Overall I like it and I wish Palekas's project would be built.
ch1le March 23rd, 2005, 07:01 PM a little too massive, my point exactly, other then that, i wish they build it. Ncc needs some urban fabric around it ;)
grendy March 23rd, 2005, 07:19 PM Blah :(.. So many much more interesting designs, a bit of a disappointment..
Edd March 23rd, 2005, 07:20 PM 1st and 2nd are not bad - I hope one of these will be built. The third one - interesting but it's too low and long - groundlicker. ;) Anyway I won't cry if any of those will be built - it'll still be a nice and rather exceptional addition to NCC. (I mean they are all quite unique and not simple)
ZuluKingOfTheDwarfPeople March 23rd, 2005, 08:30 PM When I saw the first one I thought it was the winner....thank good it wasn't:D
Ya I thought it was a part of a vaccume cleaner or something...
Mantas March 23rd, 2005, 09:26 PM I'm starting to like the winner, althaugh "pregnant crocodile" (a.k.a #7) is still my favourite :)
tournesol March 23rd, 2005, 11:05 PM I like the winning design. The best of the 3 shown here IMO. :)
Number 2 isn't bad though, but not as innovative.
I think both of them would add the massiveness you guys talk about, and which NCC needs...
Edd August 28th, 2005, 09:59 PM "Hansabank" decided to choose project of Audrius Ambrasas (the first place) but it was a little changed. Forumer of tinkle.miestai.net "filthy" scanned this from "Statybų pilotas" magazine:

blimey August 28th, 2005, 10:05 PM Not bad. Not bad at all :okay:
Seems like Ambrasas is becoming the Foster of Vilnius :)
ShuMi August 28th, 2005, 11:28 PM Hm, it seems that they have changed the design of KN too :hm:
Artis August 29th, 2005, 12:56 PM I'm glad that Audrius Ambrasas got that commision.
Europa Tower made by his architectural office is maybe the better highrise building in Baltics at the moment. I think Ambrasas and Palekas are between most hopefull and talented architects in Lithuania now.
