Bahraini Spirit March 24th, 2005, 03:37 AM Looks cool plus has a nice name.
MattSal March 24th, 2005, 04:39 AM Another great building for Shanghai. :okay:
Would look better in HK though.
FM 2258 March 24th, 2005, 04:51 AM It has an optical illusion that makes it look like it's spitting away when the sides are really vertical. Nice looking skyscraper. It needs to go up soon. :)
chex March 24th, 2005, 07:54 AM nice tower!
Dubai-Lover March 24th, 2005, 12:45 PM fantastic design
but looks a little bit lost among all these old towers in this area
would love to see it in pudong
TICONLA1 March 25th, 2005, 12:16 AM This is a fine example of a large, single tenant, corperate office tower. perfect for any major city. i would surely like to see a tower such as this go into the Grand ave. project here in Los Angeles, and speaking of optical illustions, 1.5 million sq.ft., in 58 floors, or 951'. well done, in my opinion, how i like office towers, not to fancy but present, this one covers all bases, having not seen this tower until last evening, i'm a little suprized as to how it has many of the characteristics of my personal designs for the World Trade Center reconstruction, towers 2, 3, and 4. (more on that later)
Þróndeimr March 25th, 2005, 12:56 AM Very nice, reminds me a lot of Union Square Phase 7.
Sonic from Padova March 25th, 2005, 02:24 AM great project!
MikeHunt March 25th, 2005, 02:26 AM Shanghai is great!
baqthier March 26th, 2005, 12:48 AM Looks like KLCC's Lot C! (to be constructed this year)

some_stupid_nut March 26th, 2005, 02:02 AM For some reason I think the name fits the building.
I think I like the one in KL more.
superskyline March 26th, 2005, 03:36 AM I like it alot! Looks similar to Union Square Phase 7 in HK (which I like a lot) but with it's own special edge to it! Can't wait to see it
btw, when did contruction start... any photos??
Xander March 26th, 2005, 01:37 PM Yeah, it does look like US7. Looks great though, when is construction planned?
Tom_Green March 26th, 2005, 01:57 PM btw, when did contruction start... any photos??
This pic is from 10th January.
Interesting panorama of the JinganPark surroundings. The wheelock Square plot is the one on the left, just behind the tower at the centre on the other side of the elevated highway. See the others plots under construction at the other end of the park.

superskyline March 26th, 2005, 03:03 PM nice photos, thanks Tom_Green
Muse March 26th, 2005, 10:42 PM The reason it's similar to Hong Kong's Union Square 7 is because the design architectural firm for US7 is Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates;
the same architects that have designed Wheelock Square.
For convenience, the 2 pics that Tom Green gave above that he didn't tag properly (apologies Tom).
The groundwork for Wheelock is behind the tallest tower in the middle where the elevated highway leads to...just visible:

Muse July 27th, 2006, 07:46 PM Wheelock Square is the 2nd tallest scraper under construction in Shanghai presently. SWFC is the tallest u/c.

staff July 27th, 2006, 07:54 PM It's located at Jing An Su, right?
Muse July 27th, 2006, 08:56 PM ^^ Correct...
It's being constructed on a 12.675 sq m/41.575 sq ft plot on Yan’an Road opposite of the Equatorial Hotel in the Jing An Su district and will have a gross floor area of 114.075 sq m/374.165 sq ft.
Therefore @ being 59-levels, Wheelock Square Tower will have a total of 107,687 sq m/353,212 sq ft gross floor area for the tower.
z0rg July 27th, 2006, 09:03 PM I find strange that such a tall tower without spire has only 59 floors.
Muse July 27th, 2006, 09:28 PM I find strange that such a tall tower without spire has only 59 floors. Not necessarily strange for a few reasons.
First of all, its structural height is 298m/977ft but the height to roof below the glass wedged crown is 290m/951ft. Also it depends how tall the office floors are from floor to ceiling (the avarage office floor can range from 4m to 4.5m). The floorplates between the different office levels may also be quite thick.
If there are 1 or 2 plant/maintenance levels in the body of the tower they may take up to 2-levels each. Another factor could possibly be how tall the lobby is @ the bottom of the tower.
Anyway, 59 storeys it is!
...
Mosaic July 28th, 2006, 01:08 PM How tall is it for this tower??
Muse July 28th, 2006, 04:14 PM How tall is it for this tower??Read my post above mate.
randolphan July 28th, 2006, 06:48 PM wow, it got a cool ICC style... great building!
spicytimothy July 28th, 2006, 07:14 PM another building funded by a Hong Kong company... I really do believe Hong Kong built Shanghai.
ningxiard July 28th, 2006, 07:57 PM It's located at Jing An Su, right?
It's Jing An Si, not Jing An Su. Si means temple. If you look at the update picture of July 16th, you can see Jing An Si at the right side of the picture. This whole area is called Jing An Si because of this sort of landmark temple. Jing An Si area is one of the business, entertainment and shopping centers of Shanghai, so inevitably you will see lots of highrise buildings over there.
When people think of Shanghai, they always think of Lujiazui in Pudong, and think that's everything of Shanghai's skyline. Anyone who ever visit Shanghai and go around the city will know how wrong that idea is. Lujiazui is mostly just a pompous and artificial showing-off in my eyes, and it's also so tiny! It has so little to do with the real Shanghai, both in terms of culture, landscape and architecture. Shanghai has so much more to offer than that ridiculous-looking Lujiazui skyline.

i totally agree with you. Lujiazui is like Dubai, just a place for ppl to show off how much money they have in the form of artificial buildings. Puxi is soooo much denser and better than Lujiazui. Puxi side of Shanghai is a legit functional city that grew naturally. Aside from being economically more vibrant, having better infrastructure, having a greater population, being commercially more vibrant, etc., Puxi's skyline is about a million times bigger than Pudong. To be honest, i really hate pudong
ZZ-II July 28th, 2006, 08:28 PM I've never saw a render until now. This tower looks Pretty nice a bit boxy but modern.
Mosaic July 29th, 2006, 10:38 AM Read my post above mate.

Hehe, of course I mean Jing An Si!
I'm actually opting for an appartment there (or somewhere in Xu Jia Hui).
DarkFenX August 9th, 2006, 03:41 PM I think it needs to be taller because it looks a little fat. Or it just maybe me wanting to see another tower that will rival Jin Mao and the SWFC in height.
european August 9th, 2006, 03:54 PM Thanks for the update mate.
Mosaic August 10th, 2006, 06:40 AM I love the design, it looks so neat yet modern and glassy.
swerveut August 10th, 2006, 08:42 AM Very nice architecture!
An elegant addition for Shanghai.
CULWULLA September 26th, 2006, 09:38 AM how is this going? its going to be 298m so i might add to world tall diagrams.

DamienK September 26th, 2006, 12:53 PM KPF became famous initially for its award winning post modern designs, but they do an incredible job with creating unique geometric structures - Plaza 66, JR Central Towers, SWFC, Santo Plaza in Miami, to name a few. Wheelock Square is one of them.
CULWULLA September 26th, 2006, 04:11 PM thanks ssfan. lots of bamb00 there.
cheers
