View Full Version : Bahrain to remove roundabouts
Krazy March 26th, 2005, 12:07 PM Bahrain to remove roundabouts
Manama
Bahrain is to get rid of all roundabouts as part of a national programme to revamp its roads network.
Sanad Roundabout will be the first to be razed this year, followed by the Pearl Roundabout and those at Sehla and Government Avenue, Works and Housing Assistant Under-Secretary for Roads and Sewerage Essam Khalaf said.
Razing a roundabout on a main highway would cost up to BD500,000 while installing new traffic lights up to BD30,000, he added.
Dubai-Lover March 26th, 2005, 12:49 PM i love roundabouts and hope they will remain in the uae and dubai
how can they get rid of these? maybe some people have to read the manual before using these :D
do they want to remove them as a result of too many accidents?
Bahraini Spirit March 26th, 2005, 01:16 PM Great, they cause traffic jams and are an old british system. The only cool roundabout is the pearl roundabout cause it has the monument, the others just cause uncessary traffic jams. Guys i'll be in London for a few days so i'll disappear from the forum and be back later. Enjoy.

BulldozerGirl will be happy to hear about that.
Skyline-BRN March 26th, 2005, 05:08 PM It would be such a shame if they remove the Pearl Roundabout cuz it is a national landmark! It is almost the equivalent of removing the eiffel tower from Paris or Big Ben from London!!
Raza March 26th, 2005, 08:44 PM there are no round abouts here in North America.
den2dxb March 26th, 2005, 09:13 PM Wow! Dreams do come true! This is the best news I've heard in a long time. :)
msleiman March 26th, 2005, 09:53 PM could anyone post some nice pics of round abouts.... i know that sharhah has some really nice round abouts, especially the koran one
Raza March 27th, 2005, 07:26 AM makkah doesn't have any round abouts
Qatar4Ever March 27th, 2005, 10:07 AM I think this is a very smart move. Qatar is also moving slowly to move all major roundabouts and replacing them with traffic lights or tunnels/flyovers. Roundabouts cause unnecassry traffic and a lot of accidents.
I doubt the pearl roundabout will acctually be removed, a really huge flyover was constructed right next to it, so that should control the traffic.
As for makkah, no offense, but makkah might not have any roundabouts, neither does it have one decent road. The whole city needs reconstruction.
Raza March 29th, 2005, 12:42 AM lol. true, but what can you do its an ancient and very important city for muslims, i guess you have to be careful.
Moody March 29th, 2005, 09:01 PM Guys, this thread is about Bahrain. Raza, please cut this off.
Thanks,,

yes Qata4ever, I know, Qatar had the lead ..I remember hearing the news of Qatar removing the roundabout long ago. you cant believe what trouble we face daily because of the roundabouts, however the substitute will be in bahrain only one, Flyovers and not traffic light. this will be only a waste of money and effort !
HiJazzey March 30th, 2005, 09:59 AM There's nothing wrong with roundabouts, if anything they are a much more efficient and elegant solution to managing low to medium density junctions. The problem is the person who had the bright idea of installing them on 6-8 lane highways, which is crazy.
Bahraini Spirit March 30th, 2005, 01:46 PM I don't think the Pearl Roudabout (LULU) will be destroyed, it's a landmark for the country and plus the flyover solved the traffic problem there (not that you don't get stuck on the flyover, but made the traffic flow more smoother).
Qatar4Ever March 30th, 2005, 01:55 PM hehe.. i think everyone in the gulf should stop complaining... 5ala9.. traffic is a reality we have to learn to live with... adapt..

I dont know what you mean with 6-8 lane highways ,, we dont have that in Bahrain, We dont have Low-Medium taraffic either !!! what we have is a miss.
If they keep seting on the problem, within couple of years, I'd better ride a camel to Manama everyday !
Nima-Farid October 22nd, 2011, 10:24 PM Aren't they related to arab spring? Because every major demonstration takes place in a roundabout. Pearl Square of Bahrain, Tahrir Square Cairo and Green (Martyr) Square Libya.
shayan October 23rd, 2011, 06:52 PM They will remove your roundabouts as your government believes its a source to protests against your great king. Just my 2 cc
Mesch October 24th, 2011, 01:26 AM This is from 2005......
Nightsky December 3rd, 2011, 05:53 PM In Sweden we do the opposite: replace traffic light intersections with rundabouts! To make the traffic flow better...
B-Patriot December 5th, 2011, 02:18 PM Mayybe your roundabout rules are different.. leading to a slightly smoother roundabout traffic flow than here..
