Boston's skyline is pretty and looks much better at night. However, it's still your boxy, unexciting, typical American skyline though. :)

Honestly, I find the amount of 3's or less to be absolutely appalling.

I really wish that the area between the Pru and the Hancock could be filled in and a little denser. I know they are planning another tower on the Pru, and if the Christian Science building could be built, it'll help.

The tallest towers are far outside this dense area. They should have been in the middle. :)

Boston has one of the better US skylines....but it's very spectacular when compared to other global cities. Great city though! :-)

Boston really needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. While it gets a bad rap for "being too short", in reality we are still talking about 16 buildings over 500' and 18 over 150 meters, and the 2 tallest are nothing to scoff at. The city is almost overwhelming when coming in from some angles (mainly from 93 north/south) and having the 2 tallest buildings a little away from the main cluster really allows their height to shine, as well as the heights of the 13 buildings between 500'-614' in the main cluster (as opposed to them being overshadowed). I think the exact opposite type of skyline from Boston is Philadelphia, which is beautiful but there is not a single angle where I can see the full height of my favorite buildings there (Liberty Place) and 500' towers look short next to the 5 tallest. Anyways, off on a tangent here, but I'd say that from up close, Boston is as impressive as any US city not named New York or Chicago.

Boston has a very modest skyline when compared to many of the international skylines. But within the United States Boston's skyline is quite solid...it's no NYC, Miami or Chicago. But it's attractive when you approach it from the south or north of the city.

I was born and raised in the Boston area, and it's a beautiful city. It's one of the greatest cities in the United States and often does not get the appreciation it deserves. I know that some think the skyline is "boxy" and "too short" but Boston is not trying to be New York city or Chicago, its an old historic city and the downtown is much smaller than both those cities. I personally love the John Hancock Tower, its a really simple glass box but its elegant and beautiful and reflects the scenery around it. The skyline really suits the city's location in between Boston Harbor and the Charles River.

Boston's skyline isn't that impressive but when I visited Boston I was staying in NYC so my view was somewhat skewed by the massive NYC skyline which makes all skylines in America look small. Boston is one of the cleanest major cities I have been to, I went in the summer and it was beautiful, weather was perfect (I know winter sucks). The city was dense and filled with tons of great looking historic buildings, I loved the European feel to the city too. I only have scratched the surface of Boston and would love to go back someday, definitely one of the best cities in the US.

The skyline is not contiguous, just like how there's a space between Midtown and downtown Manhattan. However, I love Boston's skyline. The skyline can't have the same number of 10 votes as there are 3 votes :bash:

That space between the downtown skyline and the Back Bay skyline (to the right in the 3rd to last photo above) is due to the Boston Common. It is a 50 acre green space. Buildings near the "Common" are heavily scrutinized due to the shadows that the buildings would leave over the green area.
I am excited for that small gap to the right of the John Hancock (the wide all-glass tower in the Back Bay skyline) to be filled in with the Copley Place Tower - 635 feet I believe. Boston's tallest residential tower.
There are a handful of other towers set to be built - nothing as big as Copley Place - that will add to the density in the photos.

It's hard to not be loyal to Boston. :) My favorite cities in the US are San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and Boston . Boston undoubtedly is one of America's finest cities. And the downtown skyline is beautiful as well! 8/10 for the skyline

I love my city, and just got a new camera so I have been going absolutely crazy with my picture-taking.

Considering how many areas of old-city density it has, it's amazing how big of skyline Boston is able to have in its downtown core. Most cities don't have their skyscrapers surrounded by areas like this...

Need is almost an understatement, this city is a unique city on its own, truly unlike any city i've been to before. It has a New Yorkish feel, but so much of it is just so authentically unmatched.

I am sure many American cities envy those dense city environs full of church spires and crowded rowhouses with fine architecture... It is just magnificent! I think just for that I'd go visit, seeing the great quality of Boston's architecture and all...

Wait a couple more years. If the economy doesn't tank again, Boston appears to be headed for its biggest building boom in decades. A pair of 600 footers may be starting by the end of this year alone.
