View Full Version : How long for the pope? dinp April 1st, 2005, 12:05 AM He's just been given his last rights, so a 24 hour poll here - how long do you think he has left? Sy April 1st, 2005, 12:19 AM tbh I'm surprised he has lasted this long! Not sure how long but as he's been pretty tough so far maybe he'll make it to Sunday. Englishman April 1st, 2005, 12:20 AM i thought about a poll but decided it migt be considered bad taste. i voted "after that". I have faith. carlspannoosh April 1st, 2005, 12:23 AM He's been knocking on heavens door for at least 20 years. Looks like it might be very soon though. dinp April 1st, 2005, 12:24 AM Well I thought it might be a bit sick, but I haven't put anything else in to make it seem comical or light hearted, its just a simple question, based on the breaking news tonight. I think Saturday. DonQui April 1st, 2005, 12:26 AM It is rather saddening to see someone with his past vitality experiencing such a slow, painful descent into infirmity. Medo April 1st, 2005, 12:27 AM I predict a May 1st death for the pontiff. :) Or this Friday night at exactly 20:31 hours. eusebius April 1st, 2005, 12:51 AM cheers to you Englishman :cheers1: I had been contemplating the exact same and came to the exact same conclusion. The Pope will singlehandedly tear down Corby council estates. There goes the Corby highrise database :D Burn Corby, burn! Toadboy April 1st, 2005, 12:52 AM Like the Queen Mother, I think he died a long time before his official death will be announced. He's surviving on chemicals and physicians. Let the poor cunt die you horrible "christian" twats. eusebius April 1st, 2005, 12:54 AM nice one you sure don't hold any grudges against poor Carl? daniel_18 April 1st, 2005, 12:58 AM What in the hell is a last right? dinp April 1st, 2005, 01:04 AM The Pope will singlehandedly tear down Corby council estates. There goes the Corby highrise database :D Burn Corby, burn! If he does that, i'll become a religious man, as it would make my year  eusebius April 1st, 2005, 01:12 AM If he does that, i'll become a religious man, as it would make my year  You sound like a Welshman during the build-up to a Six Nations match :D eusebius April 1st, 2005, 01:15 AM What in the hell is a last rite? The last blessing, a tradition. Along those lines, I admire, not worship, Bacchus and not any real God :D Turbosnail April 1st, 2005, 01:16 AM He's dead already. They're just dragging the whole thing out. DonQui April 1st, 2005, 01:19 AM This got me thinking, when is the Queen going to croak? Will she last as long as her mum? If so, you guys may be able to skip Charles for the succession after all. Toadboy April 1st, 2005, 01:24 AM The queen will live until Charlie bites the dust, she hates him. As soon as he's dead, she'll happily die. Turbosnail April 1st, 2005, 01:28 AM Fuck it. I'm gonna do the rest of that wine in the fridge. And raid the duty free ciggies. Can't bloody sleep. slave1 April 1st, 2005, 01:33 AM I was given last rites when I was 3 years old. Pobbie Rarr April 1st, 2005, 01:44 AM I was given last rites when I was 3 years old. WTF? Anyway, I predict Sunday of all days though he may be kept alive longer. TallBox April 1st, 2005, 01:50 AM What in the hell is a last right? One of the seven sacraments that Catholics are supposed to have - baptism, holy communion, confirmation, marriage, something else, something else, and last rites. Basically a blessing before you die. Obv not everyone can have a last rite (if you get run over by a car), but where poss, Catholics usually will have one performed by a priest. eusebius April 1st, 2005, 02:27 AM Basicly it's a priest dictating to a council secretary. Like the priest overhears the dying citoyen and he or she gives away all the bank numbers. It's only a tax testament. Skybean April 1st, 2005, 02:28 AM April 10th. EarlyBird April 1st, 2005, 02:38 AM I wonder if they'll say he's dead as an April Fools joke... Pobbie Rarr April 1st, 2005, 02:45 AM ^That's what I was thinking. gothicform April 1st, 2005, 02:51 AM thatd be as funny as them saying michael jackson is innocent. lol. as for the pope, i hope he dies in agony, just like the millions of africans who have died because of his shite on safe sex. I agree the contraception policies are inane, but that is a little harsh. However, I blame promiscuous sex and a chauvinistic culture that tolerates the objectification of women as the main reason for the AIDS epidemic in Africa, not someone who for most Africans is just some guy in a funny hat in the middle of Italy. Some men in Africa find it perfectly acceptable to have unprotected sex with 14 year old girls in exchange for the payment of school fees. Not to mention the belief that unprotected sex with a virgin can cure AIDS. Also, unless I am mistaken, most Africans are not even Catholic, so how would the Pope be responsible for their death? And in poorer parts of the world, such as Latin America, that are overwhelmingly Catholic, there is no such severe epidemic. Turbosnail April 1st, 2005, 03:42 AM I reckon slave1 is the darkest forumer on planet earth. Last rites at age 3 and still alive!! I've read about decorated combat veterans who've been given the last rites like, three or four times, hopeless cases - and they get stitched back together in field hospitals and sent back out again. Tough as bricks and full of shrapnel. Pobbie Rarr April 1st, 2005, 03:56 AM I had meningitis and was hours from death. I've actually had them twice. Oh crap. And in poorer parts of the world, such as Latin America, that are overwhelmingly Catholic, there is no such severe epidemic. The issue is with the catholic church's stance on contraceptives and their followers denying aid to africa if it is spent on condoms and their prudishness with regards sex education. Whilst he could have tried to drag the catholics into a more sensible approach to sex - as long as you are educated about how to deal with it correctly and safely.. the health benefits of sex are widely known, it's the same with everything you just have to be responsible in your actions. The stance the catholic church have goes against nature itself which would actually go against the will of their god effectively when you think about it (if we weren't meant to have sex why is it how we generate future generations, why is it pleasurable and why does it give health benefits as well as being a basic urge?). Oh, and don't forget, it's not just the objectification of women but of men too :/ Regardless, I can't help but respect the guy with how much he has gone thru and still is as dedicated as ever to his beliefs and what he regards as his duties. Even tho I don't follow his faith or believe much in what he places his faith in I will still feel saddened when he finally shuffles off this mortal coil :( CharlieP April 1st, 2005, 12:05 PM What happens if you're given your last rites and survive, like slaveybaby? Does a priest have to recant them, or do they count towards your eventual death? Is there an expiry date, i.e. if you die within a week of last rites you're OK, but a year later you have to have them over again? What happens if you don't get your last rites? What happens if the priest forgets his lines and you don't get them properly? Not that I'm having a pop at Catholic mysticism or anything :D Zim Flyer April 1st, 2005, 12:11 PM From one anti Communist to another, I wish him a peaceful and painless end. Nice. and probably true. AndrewC April 1st, 2005, 02:04 PM I've gone with sometime Saturday by the way. Though i'm starting to think maybe he'll go before midnight. MIDGEBLACKANDWHITE April 1st, 2005, 02:16 PM I am deeply against this present pope for pushing the RC church so far to the right. There are loads of issues where the church's more liberal wing have been eclipsed. However much as I dislike the teachings of this pope, I have to say that voting in a poll to decide when a man will die goes too far for me. A little more respect to a sick man wouldn't go amiss. AndrewC April 1st, 2005, 02:18 PM nah, like terri schiavo i think the mind is long gone, This is all a matter of when the body ceases to be i think. Accura4Matalan April 1st, 2005, 02:25 PM Sunday. How is he different to anyone else on this planet? mic of Orion April 1st, 2005, 03:07 PM not long I'm afraid, perhaps only few days at most. I know he is very old and has Parkinson's - It is very hard toiling with TV presenter carrying him all over and being so old - lol (cynical joke - no offence meant), but seriously he is 84 years old, had advance stage of Parkinson's and can't walk, I am amazed he survived so long - I think he wanted to push toward Easter wanted to be part of this celebrations, which is great and I admire him for it, but don't ce him beyond this weekend. I think Pope is ready and knows he will die soon. I feel very sorry, not very religious here, my mom is she is Catholic and all my mother side family will pray for him now, but I do feel it is time - he is only suffering longer the agony continues. clarky April 1st, 2005, 04:34 PM Maybe hes playing an April fools joke. Kampflamm April 1st, 2005, 07:57 PM My pics are too saucy for this place. And I'm being honest about the Pope.
