Oslo has never been known for revolutionary architecture or stunning high-rises. This is now going to change forever! "Prinsessetårnet" (The Tower of the Princess) will have 75-stories of apartments, and will be located in the former harbor area of Bjørvika.

The building is supposed to revolutionize the way skyscrapers are built, as it relies on a completely new module-based design where the most labor intensive parts of the construction process can be completed abroad.

I have managed to get hold of a preliminary rendering, but I am not really sure if I like the design... The lower part of the building will look different than on this rendering though; the city council will probably allow them to have a fitness- and shoppingcenter there. They have also made plans for other alternatives.

That's just great- I heard the news too. They also say that they'll build two spheric buildings approx. 15 storey high each and attach them to the base of the main one:)

I get it. They bought two unused Saturn V rockets from NASA and will erect them upon each other. Coolness. How will it look in the skyline? Any renders? ;D

More good news:

The same company that plans to build the Tower of the Princess will also build a conventional 60-story office building. This building will be located on an artificial island close to the commercial area Aker Brygge. Small ferries will take care of the transportation between the building and the mainland, and it is believed that this will reinforce Norway's image as a maritime superpower.

The only skyline render that has been released so far, is this. They must have been in a hurry when they made it:D

It could be true! :) If I said that Turning Torso should be built in Malmö today(without anyone knowing it before), would you believe it?

It would be great if the decision makers would announce something as cool as this for real today! No one would believe it so no one would complain! :D

Unfortunately, a majority of the politicians are anti-highrise people, some of them fanatic:(

wow that thing is horrible, its almost even worse then skatteskrapan in Sthlm :runaway: a 75 floors skyscraper would be around 320-340 meters? a over 300 meter skyskraper in this area, and in Norway..... a bridge between Åbo/Turku and Gävle sounds more realistic... right now

Wouldn't a bridge between Tukholma/Stockholm and Helsinki be more profitable?

Thanks,

It took the computer 7 hours to render this image while I was sleeping. It is still exhausted :goodnight

It doesn't seem like anyone found the story credible, so I guess I should have been more moderate with the number of floors.

If anyone is interested: I made the renderings with POV-Ray which is 100% free and can downloaded from http://www.povray.org. It takes a few days to learn how to use it, but it is definitely worth it.

damn. I didn't know this kind of thing required scripting :(
Is there any other "render" program that doesnt require scripting? And might be a little bit easier to use?

It is not THAT hard. Here is a simple scene:

#include "metals.inc"
#include "colors.inc"
#include "stones.inc"

//1.Camera
camera {location <0, 5, -10> direction <0, 0, 2.25> right x*1.33 look_at <0,0,0>}

//2.Light
light_source{<0,200,-200> color White*1.1}

//3.Floor
plane { y,0 texture{T_Stone17}}

//4.Ball
sphere {<0,1,0>,1 texture {T_Gold_1A}}
