I see you like Bia2 hehehe, most ppl go there for the personal photos lol. Great shots, seen most, but Iran just needs a better government and to get rid of those extremists who are ruining it for all. Just to add that durin the days of the shah, Iran was more open than the west by far, you'd get anythin you want openely, and I mean anythin.

Area with most potential in Iran is Qishem Island, the country's freezone.

Man I want a chelo kabab kobedeh now, those pics made me hungry :eat:.

Messiah, the irani people isnt like the arabian one, in arabia you might find one or two who like freedom, etc. but you will find 100000 who oppose those 1 or 2. in iran its the opposite! but they cant defeat the goverment cause well... it has extremely deeeeeeeeep roots. and the iranian intelligence in the country is strong! if anyone tries anything he will disappear.

Great ancient culture. One of the cradles of mankind. As a sidenote: they seem to be not really convinced of Islam. If I for instance look at how tight these girls wear their clothes, it looks like they are mocking Islamic rules.

Swan Princess
April 3rd, 2005, 03:53 PM
my thoughts exactly, qatar4ever. this is one place i've never been to which i feel homesick for.

bahraini patriot - yes it's required to wear the headscarf in iran, otherwise some of those people in the pics wouldn't have bothered to put it on.

mike - the person who took those photos was obviously looking for the ones who were dressed like so. this doesn't mean that everyone there doesn't take it seriously, although it's true that there are a lot of people who don't appreciate an extreme form of religion applied to them.

iranians and levantines are famous for eating a lot of fruit and vegetables. it's great seeing pics of their markets.

I was goin to go to Iran for the first time a few years ago, but unfortunately that didn't happen. Maybe sometime within the next few years, I'll pass by. My grandmother, aunt and other family members went there, and my cousin's husband always go to Iran with his friends, and they said it's amazin down there.

I think if am not wrong the scarf is called the "shedor" and they have to wear it, but the grip is wearin out. As I said, just look at Iran durin the days of the shah and you'll know how those people think.

If you want to see more pics, I've done another thread about Iran in 2003, it's in the same section as this thread http://skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=76477

my family had a house in shiraz.. but it was abandoned and taken over by other people or something. they had a cherry tree farm. aahhh.. it sounds beautiful i wish i could go. i'll try to convince my dad.

it's the chador, bahraini spirit. but i think that refers to another type of headscarf.. it covers the chin or is an abaya that is put on the head.

a problem though is that they charge tourists in dollars, but it's still cheap. however, if they know you're not local they charge you much more, so it's good if you know people there and go with them.

tehran is expecting a big earthquake anytime. it's so polluted though that if you wear a white shirt it'll become grey once you go out.

Anas Anani
April 3rd, 2005, 04:28 PM
wow really Swan? why is it that polluted?

Bahraini Spirit
April 3rd, 2005, 04:29 PM
I know, the earthquakes are movin more towards Tehran and as you said, they're expecting it anytime, and god forbid that that happens, but if it strikes, there will be great damage to the whole city. Pollution, let's not go there and about the tourist prices, just like Egypt but it's easier to do it in Egypt since we speak the language.

Swan Princess
April 3rd, 2005, 04:32 PM

Well yeah & the youth of Iran (under 30) are 70% of the population. Some older peeps do it too, especially in Tehran but in other cities aswell.

It's obvious that poeple in Iran want to live the "european" way of life! That means no hijab and more freedom etc..!Why don't poeple do anything against it?Kind of revolution wouldn't be bad!

Yeah we really do want that, and according to the Iranian history of the 20th century, a revolution occurs every 27 year or so, so it's about time..........

I see you like Bia2 hehehe, most ppl go there for the personal photos lol. Yeah i'm a member of Bia2 so i hang out there. Iran was open & today most ppl actually want to go back to that, even though our parents rejected it.

btw, good work woth the other iran-pix thread, do you have any Iranian roots?

Kish Island also have good potentials, i'll post some pictures 4 you.

The kobideh is good but have you tried the sish-likh ?

Well you know they might be muslim or they might not, but in any case they are also secular and even if they are muslims they don't wan't this dress-code to be forced upon them, so it is also a show of rejection to the facist rulers.

Guys; Chador is almost the same thing as the arabian Abaya. And also the best time to visit Iran is in spring bc the weather is just right & it rains almost every evening so there isnt much pollution.

I'll post some more pix for you peeps later :nocrook:

Hey, well ya i tried sheesh-lik quite a bit, I love the iranian kitchen, tried a lot of the food, amazin especially the rice, best in the world. I thought it would be interesting informing ppl about Iran as that place gets negative publicity always in the news and no one really knows a lot about that place.

About my roots, I don't have any persian roots in me of any sort, am a full blow arab, my grandmother from my dad's side could possibly have some sort of european roots somewhere down in the family tree, big possibility, so this might be a possible sub-root let's put it that way hehe. She and my aunt (blonde) look european, my dad doesn't look Bahraini either. As for me, well, I've been mistaken for besides an arab as bein from Mexico, Southern Spain, Italy, Green and South America. It's always fun playin along this guessin game.

It doesn't seem to me that way at all..

I don't think their mocking Islamic rules...You're reading too much into it!

Their clothes are definately not baggy or anything, but not tight either...they're alright, somewhat fitted, but thats the fashion nowadays..

I asked about the head scarf cuz i noticed that all the women r wearing them, although most of them don't seem too serious about them, as their heads aren't fully covered...!

This isnt a political thread but since uve started it I shall say Israel shall never live in peace until it destroyed.

The religious government uve talked about has about the same basis as the israeli (jewish) government. The difference is the Irani government arent as racist as the jewish zionst government in Israel.

The other difference between the Israeli governemnt and The Irani government is that Isreal is threaten the arabic and Islamic world while Iran threat its own citizens.

So what is better hell Iran is much better.

David star mean "good luck

David star in hebrew it's "magen David"it's mean David's shield!
magen david-it's symbol of my nation(jewish)

Anas Anani

its the symbol of david, thought arab muslims view it as being the star of david but not as the star of israel. in the west most view it as the star of israel (symbol of israel).

OK! :cheers1:

woooooooow
really nice country!
more modern than i though! and i must say very nice women there:)
but please change u'r religious government!
and Israel with in peace with Iran like 40 years old ago!

I agree, :soon:

in fact iran is indeed racist (the goverment) there is major ethnic races such as the kurds, who dont have the same right as iranis.

I don't quite agree with you bc you know Kurds are also Iranian, as are azeris, turkomans, arabs etc. Kurds are not allowed to learn their own language in school but other than that they are not really more opressed than everybody else bc the government of Iran is facist one they do not respect diffrent ethnic groups at all, they have even banned Iranian holidays (such as the Iranian new year), but we celebrate them anyway

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

i totally agree with this. The "repression" of the kurds is self provoked and very political. Plus much of these uprisings by kurds can be blamed on the british and french disregard for regional ethnics in the early 1900's when cleaning up after the ottomans. YOu have to hand it to the ottomans though they kept the region together.

also i do have a question. I have heard a realative lot about the iranian turkomans, i now a few. But exactly how many are there?, what stature in pre reveloution iran society did they have. And how has that changed since 1979?

thanks

This isnt a political thread but since uve started it I shall say Israel shall never live in peace until it destroyed.

The religious government uve talked about has about the same basis as the israeli (jewish) government. The difference is the Irani government arent as racist as the jewish zionst government in Israel.

The other difference between the Israeli governemnt and The Irani government is that Isreal is threaten the arabic and Islamic world while Iran threat its own citizens.

So what is better hell Iran is much better.

You are a typıcal Arab (an extremist) and I don't lıke you, you wıll have to learn wıth the fact that Israel wıll contınue to exıst, perıod!!

Whatever view we might have on Israel, we cannot change the past, what's done is done, the nation is here, people where born there, it is foolish to wish its destruction, anti-zionist or not.

And by the way, Iran is an amasing country, very underrated, many people overhere just thing it's a "basic" arab nation

The islamic revolution they talk about was the one the khomeini did to remove the shah from power and to make (the Iran which is now). Now the problems is inside the country many ethnical groups claim that their rights are being broken and many iranians who were the shah and escaped iran, (centerd in California now) hate present day Iran and want to change it, make it a democratic country.

Its funny those who do not do anything for their country but run away and hide, talk about democracy. Those were the same people who wre surpressing the common people. Now they are talking about demoracy and change. They are worthless people.

Beautiful- Beautiful country, but I haven’t doubted it:)
I am sorry to get politic, but I don’t know any other thread discussing Iranian issues. :dunno:

Will Iranian people accept help from the u.s to overthrow their government? because I get the impression that most Iranians dislike their rulers and the idea of u.s intervening.

Well, i'm definitly against military intervention, but im also against appeasment like the Europeans do.

Recently the US Congress passed the Iran freedom act + a bill giving 3 million (well it's a start;) ) to Iranian pro-democracy groups inside Iran, and i think that's a great help. But no military intervention cus it's really not needed. :)

Though 3 million$ is really not a lot of money :( they should act more on that front if they don’t want to invade..
Best wishes anyway :)

I think the new revolution should come from inside.America should leave the world alone. That would be the biggest help it can do for democracy in the world. :)

`thanks' to certain western media Iran has extremely negative public image...
and those of us living in different cultures, we have very limited exposure to the
iranian people other than what we see in the soccer matches and preaching mullahs...

but the more I look at this country I am more convinced that Iran is hugely underrated
and unduely associated with bad things...
