In the spring of 1778 Captain James Cook, R.N., became the first known European to set foot on what is now British Columbia. Permanent European settlement, long delayed, was brought about by the gradual overland penetration of the fur trade companies towards the Pacific Coast. On March 13, 1843, Chief Factor of the Hudson's Bay Company James Douglas, accompanied by the pioneer Roman Catholic missionary Father J.B.Z. Bolduc, anchored off Clover Point in the "Beaver." The next day he selected the site for Fort Victoria.

Today, Victoria is the capital of BC.

Very nice. These pics make me long for summer because its been cold and wet in Ontario the past while. So much for the reputation of BC being the wet one. Its really a load of bullocks when you have family in Ottawa telling you ...Oh, don't go to WET Victoria ... it rain all the time; when in realility Ottawa and Kitchener get like 300m more rainfall a year. LOL

You could take the Victoria Clipper. It goes from downtown Seattle to Victoria's inner harbour. Either that or a float plane is cool - at least in one direction anyway. Enjoy Seattle! I plan on visiting there in September. They have a couple of Melbourne trams on their waterfront I want to see. (used to live in Melbourne so thats rather sad I know but oh well) Still, I'll only be crossing over from Victoria so Seattle is a nice weekend break thats easy to get too plus its a very pleasant city as well.
