View Full Version : Walhalla Temple | Regensburg, Germany
LuckyLuke April 3rd, 2005, 07:47 PM The Walhalla temple, commissioned by Ludwig I of Bavaria in 1816 and completed in 1842 commemorates great figures from German history. On its inauguration on 18 October 1842, there were 96 busts and 64 plaques. 30 busts were added since, most recently a bust of Sophie Scholl on 22 February 2003.

Sophie Scholl (9 May 1921 - 22 February 1943) was a member of the White Rose resistance movement in Nazi Germany. She was convicted of treason and executed by guillotine. Well she is a hero in Germany and she died for Freedom

Reminds me a lot of the so-called "Belvedere" in my hometown Neubrandenburg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neubrandenburg) in Northern Germany (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), which is situated at the water as well:
