This thread is exclusively to discuss the Buffalo GTG.
Anybody who hijacks or trolls this thread with basically anything not pertaining directly to the Buffalo GTG will have their account suspended.
BuffCity April 4th, 2005, 02:37 PM only in a Buffalo thread for a meet up would we have to start over....LOL
Thanks JHouse.
BuffCity April 4th, 2005, 02:51 PM Buffalo Meet: Thus far.
Target dates - May 15th weekend to Mid June weekend.
Many places to eat...please everyone recommend some places.
Camera - hope you have one, you are gonna want it.
*For once, I'm gonna give props to the MetroRail, we can ride the rail from the arena to south campus in North Buffalo...which means we are gonna have the ability to cover as much of the nicer part of Buffalo as you all want.
I'll post some maps, and "must see" places soon.
Evergrey April 4th, 2005, 04:18 PM Well, I think Duff's has the greatest wings I've ever eaten... but their location is a bit suburban. Some beef on weck would be nice. Beef on weck is actually quite popular in my hometown of St. Marys, PA... a full 120 miles south of Buffalo! Perhaps Buffalo's influence is more far-reaching than some would think. I'd be interested in getting a taste of Buffalo, as I hear the city has some of the best local food in the country.
steel April 4th, 2005, 05:00 PM If you are in Buff you have to have Fish Fry. I recommend McGinty's which is a bar across from pilot Field. Also MY favorite fast food place is Elmwood Toco and Sub at Elmwood and Delevan. They have theeeeee best Tocos (forget Mighty Taco that stuff is trash). Get the Taco Supreme. Be warned medium hot means blast furnace at this place. Buffalo means Italian food so almost anyplace you go for Eye..talian it will be good however I recomend a corner bar place called Santisieros at Lafayette and Niagara. It is just a corner bar but does a great job with some of the peasant Italian dishes. I recommend the Past e fagioli (they call it psata fasoola)
BuffCity April 4th, 2005, 06:14 PM There is a festival called the "taste of Buffalo" I just can't remember when it is...that would be a great time for the meet!
anyone know???
steel April 4th, 2005, 07:31 PM The Allentown Art Festival is the second weekend in June. 400,000 people cram into Allentown for two days. It is really fun. The GooGoo Dolls have also started hosting a special concert at their aAllentown studios on that weekend as well
Jaybird April 4th, 2005, 08:10 PM I always wanted to go to either "Taste of Buffalo" or even the Buffalo Wing Festival, if you can believe it, it was held just two days after I passed through Buffalo on my bike trip, I was so mad at myself, lol! I think TOB (Taste of Buffalo) is held in early July or late June.
Anchor Bar is an option if we're eating near downtown. Maybe Prima Pizza Pasta as well, those are the only two restaurants I have eaten @ in downtown Buffalo, but there are other places that look good as well! I'll have to look @ my Buffalo tourism guide I happen to have. But if it's in Buffalo, I'll try almost ANYTHING in any restaurant. :)
NYC007 April 5th, 2005, 04:47 PM The Preservation Coalition of Erie County hosts some pretty compelling tours. You might want to coordinate a meeting with one of their events. Here's the link to their website, and their schedule.
http://preserve.bfn.org/archives/05tours.html
BuffCity April 5th, 2005, 06:20 PM I dunno how good the tours are, I know I have been to nearly all the sites which you see on all the tour sites on the web, they are not bad...but I think could be better to just get out and see the city, everyone with an idea with what they would want to see...and "wing" it!
Evergrey April 5th, 2005, 07:45 PM "Taste of Buffalo" is July 9/10
BuffCity April 5th, 2005, 09:57 PM YER AWSOME!
Jaybird April 9th, 2005, 11:27 PM Apparently, I have just learned that by 2006 or whenever, Canadians travelling to the United States, like me frequently, will now require a passport to get by the border...
So, next week, my dad's gonna try and get the forms for me to fill out for my passport and hopefully get my photo taken for it, the only problem is how long will it take to develop, though. It's going to cost me $80, but that's not a problem, I really want to come to this, so I'm gonna do my best to get this passport. Not only that, I wouldn't be able to live without it, because I go to the U.S. ALL THE TIME now for big events and stuff now (whether it would be to Buffalo or Detroit or Rochester). In fact, I think in the last two years, I have crossed the border twice as many times as I had in my entire life up until two years ago.
Not that it's irrelevant, but I thought I would give an update on myself so people can still remain optimistic I will be @ this meeting. :)

NYC007 April 11th, 2005, 09:45 PM Jaybird, I thought that the legislation you were talking about was going to take several months to take effect. In fact, it was my understanding that it was just a proposal by our current crackhead President. There are several members of Congress who oppose it, so it might be tied up for a while, and possibly not even happen. Most things like that usually get politicized (Is that a word?) and don't happen over night. Maybe someone else has better information than this, but I think you'll be OK to get over the border at least through this summer. If I'm wrong, I hope someone else will post. I have a passport, but I have some friends who don't.
xzmattzx April 11th, 2005, 10:00 PM about passports:
i went over the border this past friday when up in buffalo to visit the grandparents. i didn't need a passport at all. in fact, we spent about 30 seconds with the customs agent before he let us through. he checked our license plate with the system and saw we corss somewhat regularly. as it is, i cross over the border one direction or the other about 8 or 10 times a year, almost all times in the summer (grandparents live in buffalo, have a cottage n port colborne). most times, they just ask where we're going and if we have anything to declare. occasionally, they ask for id, at which point i show them my driver's license. i don't have a passport but that doesn't seem to matter just yet.
so i think you are okay to cross the border, as long as you have some id. if a guy form delaware who only crosses the border 10 times a year can get through without a problem, i'm sure you guys who live closer and cross more frequently will be fine.
BuffCity April 11th, 2005, 11:52 PM Crack head president - a very unjustified comment 007, and here is an explanation...
If people need a passport to cross over, and in order to receive a passport you have to fill out forms, thus giving info for a simple investigation. Because there are people who cross the borders who are not really allowed to, this would help the influx of some criminals and terror cell sympathizers. I saw on channel 7 in Buffalo that it will be like 96$ for a passport. If paying money for an ID that tells the border patrol I'm trusted and OK'd...then screw it gimme one, but to say its an idea unjustified by a crack head president, well I would hope you realize who is looking out for you.
As far as commerce, this may be a tricky issue unless the feds make passports cheaper for people living in areas around the border, Buffalo, Detroit and Seattle for example. If people have to endure an extra 100$ they might continue to shop and vacation on their home turf, thats not good for Buffalo.
NYC007 April 12th, 2005, 03:07 PM OK, yeah, but Bush is still a crack head.
BuffCity April 13th, 2005, 04:42 AM Bush was invited to the meet-up in Buffalo you know
Okay I'm kidding, there is no way any of you will go if he is there HA
jmancuso April 13th, 2005, 04:51 AM bush is going to smoke crack at this get-together? wow, can i go?
BuffCity April 14th, 2005, 12:38 AM because I don't wanna see this get too far off topic...let's bring this back to the subject of the thread...the meet-up.
anyone know when they are gonna be able to fit a meet into their schedules?
I am seeing that there are now plans to basically convert the old desolate waterfront from Lackawanna to The basin Marina to parks, condos, stores, and entertainment. Looking good for Buffalo in 2005. Now they need to get moving on all the 189 projects proposed.
The bills are gonna kick off the 2006 season at Ralph Wilson stadium, that should be interesting.
herodotus April 15th, 2005, 12:50 AM Don't schedule it on May 28th. The Pittsburgh meet is that day.
BuffCity April 15th, 2005, 02:08 AM are you saying you might be able to go before or after that?
Jaybird April 15th, 2005, 02:43 AM Thanks for the encouragement, guys, my confidence has been boosted again, basically, for me, the date I can come is a "WILD CARD" meaning anytime, I can work it into my schedule, but I should be ok. Sometimes I do get over-react a little when these things come in the news, lol! So this having passport thing may not take effect at all... good news for me.
BuffCity April 15th, 2005, 07:12 AM put me down as a wild card as well...as long as its after 6pm M-F...lol
Architorture April 15th, 2005, 09:44 PM what is going to happen at this meet?
BuffCity April 15th, 2005, 10:32 PM food, photos, hookers, more food, and a general throw around of knowledge by those present.
there is a party boat that goes out on the lake for some time, I dunno the fees but I'll look into it.
so far I only see two people fully committed so it's hard to plan anything if we dont know how many are gonna attend.
herodotus April 16th, 2005, 12:11 AM are you saying you might be able to go before or after that?
Hopefully yes. Plus you would hate to have meets going on at two nearby cities at the same time. Some folks might be interested in attending both. You probably need to start a thread over at SSP as well.
BuffCity April 16th, 2005, 01:36 AM herodotus, I agree... I didnt know about a pittsburgh meet is all, so maybe we can get them close enough together or in the same timeframe.
I can't do much on SSP...lol, but if one of the "dual members" could drop the word about the Buffalo meet...it might work out good.
herodotus April 17th, 2005, 02:01 AM Were you a bad boy over at SSP? Maybe if you ask for forgiveness, you might be pardoned. After all, most of the bosses here also have clout over there.
jmancuso April 17th, 2005, 07:21 AM actually i think buff was just guilty of being "conservative" over at SSP. crime punishable by banishment.
Jaybird April 18th, 2005, 02:32 AM ^ basically the same way I was and happened to me as well. Although there was more to that. :)
BuffCity April 18th, 2005, 05:36 AM to be honest, I like SSC...and thats that.
them hookers just won't see Buffalo as much, they're loss!
steel April 18th, 2005, 06:00 AM I was banned on Cyburbia for 1 day and I am not even a bad boy.
Jaybird April 18th, 2005, 08:07 PM ^ those things can happen, sometimes, I guess. Maybe it was joke.
Anyways, back to the forum meet thing. One thing I have to watch for is to hope the Buffalo meet up isn't the same weekend in May that I go to see my relatives in Grand Rapids, MI. If it is, maybe I can get out of it, though. When a final date has been decided, I will purchase a Greyhound bus ticket to go to Buffalo and get there hopefully before the meeting starts.
As far as what happens in this meeting, I am looking 4wd to it already! :)
NYC007 April 18th, 2005, 09:55 PM I could do this any weekday after 5:30, any Saturday after 1:00, or any Sunday after 12:00 noon. I think we should appoint someone right here and now to be in charge, so this thing gets off the ground--and I hereby nominate BuffCity. We need someone to coordinate all of our different ideas and propose a date and time. We'll respond with positive or negative replies to the specific proposal(s). Is that OK with everyone? I live in downtown Buffalo, so I am lucky enough to see most of the city's architecture on a daily basis. I think I know quite a bit of the history and trivia and stuff, though I wouldn't mind hearing more from the other members of the group. I am not particular about what sites we visit, but I think it should conclude at a downtown drinking establishment, of which there are plenty.
BuffCity April 19th, 2005, 12:49 AM well if someone is to coordinate the meet, thats good to think we should nominate a single person, but I also think that any regular Buffalo forumer who is online daily can do this, and it would help if it was a forumer that can attend.
I personally like the idea of a Saturday meet, which can give us the dates as follows...
May 7th
May 14th
May 21st
May 28th
June 4th
June 11th
June 18th
Sundays are boring downtown and we are not goning to find much to do as far as eating and drinks...atleast it won't have as many options as saturday.
Here is my "proposed" idea for the meet by the timeframe...
Noon - everyone meets and greets
12:30pm - walking tour of downtown (Main St. to HSBC then back north thru Niagara Square on to Fountain Plaza)
3:30pm - take MetroRail to adjacent stop for Allentown / Elmwood walk the strip and eat an early dinner (limited choices) LOL
5:30pm - Take rail back to downtown to the HSBC arena stop and trek to the basin marina for some sunset and relaxing open air of lake Erie.
7:30pm - everyone hikes back to Chippewa for drinks and some music
*from there we say goodbyes
If there is anything people want to see or anything we can have "arranged" speak up.
JayBird, NYC007, BuffCity are all def in so far...let me know how you guys feel about the dates, the further into June, the warmer.
steel April 19th, 2005, 02:45 AM I will not be there but I highly highly highly recommend that you do it June 11th. The Allentown Festival will be going on and the city will be rockin, 200,000 people a day attend and the city looks great plus the Goo Goo Dolls have been sponsoring a special event as well during the festival. The weather is allways fine by then and with that many people in town I would bet that Chip will be on fire.
http://img115.echo.cx/img115/262/allentown11hn.jpg
BuffCity April 19th, 2005, 02:51 AM for those who are planning to possibly go...June 11th sound fair?
it gives us lots of time to plan ahead.
NYC007 April 19th, 2005, 03:29 PM The proposed agenda proposed by Buffcity sounds great to me. And I do agree that June 11th is a good date because there's a lot going on in the city over that weekend (in conjunction with the Allentown Art Festival). However, because I live just a few blocks from Allentown, and many of my friends are in Allentown, there is a very good chance that I am going to be obligated to either host, or attend a house party. So I can't really commit a full day to our meet-up if it's going to be that weekend. I could maybe start out with you guys and then leave early if I have a scheduling conflict. Personally, though, the weekend prior to that would work better for me, June 4th. The weather is almost always good in the beginning of June, and there should be enough activity downtown to keep us busy. I almost think that Allentown would be more enjoyable (for our purposes) on a weekend when it's not such a complete circus. For example, it would be difficult to really appreciate architecture while that Art Festival is happening because it is always really, really crowded. Navigating a group of people through the carnival could be challenging too. Chippewa will probably be rocking too, but then it's really busy every Saturday night, especially in the Summer. I don't want to change all your plans though, so you guys decide--and I'll do my best to fit it into my schedule, at least for part of the event.
Jaybird April 20th, 2005, 12:05 AM June 11th sounds great to me, I'll just have to get a Greyhound bus pass/ticket and get there when I can! I'll have to look at schedules and such, but I can make it work. Heck, maybe I could take my bicycle over and walk across the Peace Bridge from Fort Erie, lol! Too bad you couldn't be there, steel, but you're probably busy with other things, or because you live in Chicago. :)

That would be one hell of a bike ride. Besides Buffcity sounds like a lunatic!
BuffCity April 20th, 2005, 03:32 AM I sound like a Lunatic!
steel April 20th, 2005, 05:26 AM I sound like a Lunatic!
In a good way.
BuffCity April 22nd, 2005, 03:05 PM at SSP this would meant I was going to go off on somebody and get kicked off, here I can just laugh and agree.
maybe I am...hmmmmmmm?
Jaybird April 22nd, 2005, 08:16 PM ^ yes, you are, lol! I agree in a good way!
BuffCity April 22nd, 2005, 08:36 PM I'm on a Detroit kick today, Book Tower is awsome
anyone know what they are gonna name their dates for the meet?
Jaybird April 26th, 2005, 12:56 AM ^ what do you mean, is there going to be a meet in Detroit, I'm just curious. If there is, count me in on that, I couldn't make it to last year's Detroit meet. Detroit ROCKS indeed! :) I heart it.
BuffCity April 26th, 2005, 01:42 AM Just watch the first 20 minutes of Beverly Hills cop...Detroit has it
WZ1 April 26th, 2005, 08:00 PM Ill be there, Bring my panasonic lumix and all... How about the Ancorbar? You could take the LRT There.
BuffCity April 27th, 2005, 04:04 PM yes...the Anchor bar would be the trademark meeting place for the meet.
I have yet to ride the MetroRail, so this should be interesting.
Okay, we have a meeting place...The Anchor Bar.
steel April 29th, 2005, 08:15 PM Buffalo Bike Blast is in early august. Over 15,000 Harley bikers expected. This is an amazing event. And loud too!

BuffCity April 29th, 2005, 09:04 PM Lets all agree on a date for the meet by sunday!
Jaybird April 30th, 2005, 03:55 AM I have ridden the Metrorail once, on the free section, it's a cool ride, although the subway section will be a lot faster, though. I say stick to the first meet date option, June 11th. :) So, now with WZ1 in the mix, we'll have hopefully at least four people coming to this and maybe more. :)
bone_machine April 30th, 2005, 11:34 AM I used to ride the metrorail every day to get home from work, it's actually not that bad, and a lot more people use it than you'd expect. It was actually somewhat crowded on the way home from work
BuffCity April 30th, 2005, 07:14 PM Buffalo forum Meet
When: June 11th, 2005 (everyone agree?)
Place: Anchor Bar (Home of chicken wings) on Main street.
What to bring: Camera, cash, ID, walkin' shoes, backpack.
Expected attendees thus far...
BuffCity
Jaybird
WZ1
NYC007
(please post if you plan to attend)
NYC007 May 2nd, 2005, 03:28 PM The Buffalo meet-up sounds great--and I like starting out at Anchor Bar, since it is sort of a Buffalo icon. However, like I said originally, Allentown Art Festival weekend (i.e. June 11th) may be difficult for me, because I will likely have "festival plans." I often have out-of-town guests at my house, because I live so close to Allentown, and I will either be going to a party, or hosting one myself. I can really only say that I am half commited to this date, because it's too soon for me to determine my availability (5 - 6 weeks from now). I would most likely meet you guys for part of the day, but it's doubtful I could be there for the whole thing. Also, Anchor Bar is very close to Allentown, so if we're thinking of having a group at that place on that particulat weekend, you might want to find out if they will accept reservations. That place gets prety hopping on weekends, so I can only imagine what it would be like on that date. Just a thought...
BuffCity May 2nd, 2005, 05:50 PM anyone have any issues with the weekend before? June 4th? high noon?
steel May 3rd, 2005, 05:52 PM I hope you folks get your Buts up to see the Darwin Martin Estate. It is one of Wright's 10 greatest masterpieces and it is in the middle of a full blown restoration. They are reconstructing segments of it that were demolished in the 1960's. This is a very rare oportunity to see a Wright building under constrcution. Don't focus all your tour energy on downtown. Buffalo's real strength is its neighborhood architecture. Especially going north from downtwon between Richmond and Main street and up around Delaware Park. Go to see Richardson's State insane asylum. It is in decrepid condition but is slated to be restored soon. Don't miss the Albright Knox Gallery. Don't miss Chapin bidwell and Lincoln parkways, don't miss Allentowns residential streets. Don't miss Elmwood Toco at Elmwood and Delevan.
Just posting these links to stir up some trouble.

Buffalo Forum meet-up SSC/SSP members
Buffalo, NY
June 4th, 2005
Noon
@ Anchor Bar on Main Street
questions, directions, ideas, comments, complaints, post here on SSC or ask a Buffalo forumer attending.
NYC007 May 6th, 2005, 02:07 PM I will be there.
Jaybird May 9th, 2005, 06:53 AM I'll still be there. So it's gonna be June 4th now, that's still ok with me. I'll tell my dad to get the bus tickets this week! :)
BuffCity May 9th, 2005, 02:29 PM does anyone here know if this meet has been anounced to any of the SSP members? can we get the wod to them as well.
Jaybird May 9th, 2005, 03:29 PM I don't believe so. Somebody should get over there and tell them, I would, but most of the moderators over there are asswipes with glasses. :) Not to mention I think one of them is a man posing as a woman. :)
BuffCity May 9th, 2005, 04:19 PM Yer fuckin kidding me right? lol
well, as long as they don't bring the SSP ways with them to Buffalo, I will not contest the presence...so if someone who is allowed to, lol, please post a message to the forumers.
Jaybird May 9th, 2005, 07:07 PM Yeah, I was kidding. I don't know them that well, so I shouldn't judge. I hope they don't bring SSP ways with them either. So we still have four people involved in this. Maybe I can get one of the forumers who is a member of both SSC and SSP to inform Buffalo forumers of this meet. I'll see what I can do.
bjfan82 May 9th, 2005, 10:49 PM hey is there anychance you could make the meet a weekend later...i'm in the process of moving back to buffalo and will be back around the 6th or 7th. If not that is cool. I'd be able to attend if it was June 11 weekend.
Hey buffcity, i haven't seen you over on SSP for about a year now. We miss your input over there.
NYC007 May 10th, 2005, 04:45 PM If bjfan82 is sure about being available the week later (June 11th) then I'd be willing to switch. As I said, I think I could attend for at least a couple of hours that weekend. So on the 11th, between the two of us, you'd get one-and-a-half attendees, as opposed to just one (me) on the 4th. I was getting the impresson that other people liked the 11th better anyway, and I don't want to see everyone else have to settle on a less favorable weekend on my account. So the 11th is cool with me...anyone else?
Jaybird May 10th, 2005, 10:45 PM June 4th or June 11th is still fine with me! Besides, when I get Greyhound bus tickets, they are good for a year, so I can use them whenever I want!
BuffCity May 11th, 2005, 12:11 AM I guess June 11th now...lol, we are like the State Legislature trying to pass a budget here.
nix the 4th, go with the 11th!
bjfan82 May 11th, 2005, 08:41 AM excellent...june 11 at noon at anchor bar?
NYC007 May 11th, 2005, 03:34 PM June 11th works for me (at least for part of the day).

now lets try and figure out where to go after the Anchor bar, because if I sit there too long I'm gonna start getting drunk, and then I wont ever wanna leave. here are some ideas...
Anchor Bar, Theater District, Niagara Square, Lafayette Square, HSBC Arena, waterfront...ect
WIGS May 12th, 2005, 06:40 PM I can't confirm whether I will be able to participate or not since I haven't started my summer job yet so I can't exactly ask for the day off. ;)
BuffCity May 12th, 2005, 08:04 PM WIGS, if you can...we will be there at the anchor bar at noon.
steel May 12th, 2005, 11:32 PM I am planning a slam bang super duper ultra over the top Buffalo picture thread composed mostly of images I have mined off the web. There might be some pics by some of you guys since I have found hundreds of Buffalo images I can't keep track of where they are all from.
I am looking for some advice.
Where should I post it to get maximum impact?
How many images do you think folks can take at one time? I literaly have like 200 to 300 images, 400 when you add in my pics.
Should I hold some back for future vs threads?
Should I not even do it?
Should I break it up into themes?
WIGS May 12th, 2005, 11:51 PM buffcity, i will try and make it. I can't guarantee it though.
50-75 photos is the max one could take at any given time steel.
BuffCity May 13th, 2005, 07:01 AM Ive posted well over 100 photos I have taken of a particular area of downtown and you guys all gave me mad props...so I would say you are safe with 100, make a series of them, always nice.
Architorture May 18th, 2005, 11:31 PM i'll try to make it depending on where i land a job
Jaybird May 20th, 2005, 05:59 PM Good news, my dad has just gotten bus tickets for me to get to Buffalo so I will be guaranteed to make it, even though it will involve getting up REAL EARLY for that trip so I can make it to Buffalo before noon!
u_u May 21st, 2005, 02:40 PM here are some ideas...
Anchor Bar, Theater District, Niagara Square, Lafayette Square, HSBC Arena, waterfront...ect
Go up broadway and take pictures of old polonia. Stop at the broadway market, central terminal, st stans and some of the other beautiful churches in the area.
On delaware you can see many beautiful old churches and mansions, including the wilcox! You could probably spend half the day at forest lawn.

BuffCity May 21st, 2005, 05:33 PM there is just too much...more ideas are always good WOW, the meet is going to last 4 days? lol
WIGS May 23rd, 2005, 06:38 AM hopefully I can make it. I start work back at the duty free (NF Ontario) on Tuesday so I doubt I'd have the day off (5 days on/2 days off) but maybe something will be different. Regardless,
if I only work till 4 on that day I'll come meet you guys somewhere.
Since I will have my apt. in Amherst through the summer still it shouldn't be a problem.
BuffCity pm me with your cellphone #... even though I only have a landline but that way we can figure out somewhere to meet.

Jaybird May 31st, 2005, 12:21 AM less than 2 weeks away now from the big day!
BuffCity May 31st, 2005, 04:55 AM yes, I was in Buffalo saturday night and evening and I must say...was looking good.
A friend of mine and myself ate dinner on Elmwood, what an awsome and happening place on a regular saturday...I can only imagine the festival crowds.
I was thinking of getting whoever might like to go, down to Chippewa later in the meet to enjoy a Buffalo tradition of getting a bit of a buzz, so if you are all 21, thats great...if not let us know.
remember, Anchor Bar @ Noon on the 11th of June
bring friends, maybe we can get some people into the interests we all share.
WIGS May 31st, 2005, 05:54 PM i work 4pm-12am, so unless i can switch with someone who is 8-4pm then I won't be able to make it... however if the afterparty (drinking) goes real late I'd be able to catch up with you guys. ;)
Jaybird June 1st, 2005, 03:03 AM I am 22, lol! So yeah, this should be cool. I want to have an extended stay in Buffalo! I'll see if my friend Paul would be interested because I took him to the Anchor Bar, he loved the food and thought it was amazingly cheap compared to the city at the other end of the QEW. He said he wants to go again sometime, we'll have to see.
Jaybird June 5th, 2005, 12:38 AM BTW, what would we need our backpacks for anyway, BuffCity, I think you mentioned something about bringing one of those...
