Seattle's is a new 7 story building, not that tower shown above, is it? I know the City of Seattle owns the building above, but I thought the government offices were in the Seattle City Hall Building.

The one on the right is the City-County building:

This is the old one; it was razed in the 50's or 60's:

Thankfully we still have the old county building:

That statue of the "Father of the Waters" gives me the creeps. Waaaay too much detail in the eyes. On the other hand, it's not every day you see such a well-muscled senior citizen sitting around naked on an alligator, fondling corn.

Anyway, here's Asheville's contribution, the art deco City Building:

Here's Lansing City Hall which also includes the downtown jail. The historic city hall was torn down for this more modern version which is now also too small. It's the building on the corner.

We need a Philly forumer, who knows how to post pics, to post pictures of Philly's City Hall. We have one of the grandest in the country.

It is 548 feet tall to the top of the statue on top.
It is also (I believe) the largest municipal building that is in continuous use in the country (maybe also in the world, I'm not 100% sure).

Philadelphia City Hall has so much impact on this wonderful city that it is kind of sad. It is probably the single most influencial structure constructed in the past century or so (it is a little older than 100 years) in Philadelphia, for good and for bad.

Omaha's absolutley sucks ass. Instead of building a new one they are just squeezing a new addition onto the front of it. The old one used to look like Minneapolis'.

http://eomaha.com/gallery/buildings/63/pic1.jpg

The Douglas County Courthouse isn't to bad though. All though I wouldn't try to photgraph it again because the last time that happened I was detained as a terrorist suspect. Plus I can tell you first hand there is a big jail on top of the courthouse. The courthouse and City Hall are connected. I think the best City Hall ever is Toronto's and then Philly's.

SF's city hall use to be the state capital building I think. It explains the similarity in design anyway. Or maybe that building was destroyed in the earthquake. When I went to SF I stayed in a hotel very close to it. Its nice.

The SF city hall was never the state capitol. Neither the pre 1906 earthquake city hall nor the current one ever acted as the state capitol. There were about a half-dozen locations for the Callifornia state capitol before Sacramento, but only one of those buildings remain. Specifically the one-time capitol building in Benicia. The capitol building in Sacramento was completed in approximately 1865. By the way, when referring to a governmental entity/location such as the "capitol building" or the "state capitol", the word capitol is always spelled with an "o". The word "capital" is a financial term.

I am from Chicago and I think the Daley center is pretty drab and ugly. I would not shed a tear if they put a wrecking ball to it.

There is little of the "international" style I do like though so maybe that is just a bad start from the get go for me right there. I love the look of San Frans and Minneapolis city hall.

Chicagos Daley building though could just be be put in Schaumberg or or a suberburn office complex and not look out of place.
