From Wikipedia,
The Porta Nigra (black gate) in Trier, Germany, is a large Roman gatehouse with two four-storied towers, projecting as near semi-circles on the outer side. The structure is largely of grey sandstone, and was built between 180 and 200. In the Middle Ages, the building was used as a church, one of the towers being adapted to contain an apse.

I give it a 9.5 because it's 1800 years old and it still looks nice!

7.5 I've seen it in person and I just don't like the lack of symmetry. The uneven towers ruin the look for me. Great building besides that.

An amazingly elegant piece of architecture. Well proportioned and richly detailed. That's something the Chinese still can't accomplish today, 2000 years later.

I think that they should'nt clean out the Porta Nigra... That would only disturb the beautifully old Look. :)

Sure a 10/10 for me, because I was there and it looks monumental, although is not that huge. ;)

Such a shame that everything around it is far more modern (mainly due to bombings). This way it looks a bit out of it's place. I visited Trier a couple of weeks ago, I expected to see a lot more architecture from ancient times or middle ages. It was a bit dissapointing to me.

Although it is the Porta Nigra that gets all the attention of Roman remains in Trier (Germany's oldest city)... it is the Aula Palatina, "Constatine's Basilica", that deserves more credit as a German Roman ruin.

It's one of the largest roofed Roman buildings surviving in the world... and then only reason it' still intact (besides several restorations)... is because important people of the time thought it was of better use as a building... than as a quarry....
