Btw telecom has 40 000 m^2 of office space in Vilnius now. They will build new ~20 000 m^2 office and they will not sell all their old buildings, they will leave 10 000 m^2 of space in old building/buildings. Their current main building in Newtown (Naujamiestis) district:

Should we count a 12 fl. building as a skyscraper?

No, 12 floor building is a high-rise but definitely not a skyscraper. ;) Btw, it's not clear how many floors it'll have.

CBD? You mean CRD? :D (j/k)

Btw, can you list those highrises, because AFAIK there were less than that :|

well, it hopefully by current plans will be 14 imho, with the current highrises (olümpia, viru, city, maakri, sas and union included) if we add tornimäe 1, tornimäe 2, then tartu mnt 15(35F), then the one next to olümpia(max 30), then the 40 storey lennuki corner, then the 40 storey on Tartu mnt 17, then a 30 storey building on tartu mnt 25/25a, then another 30 storey building on maakri 19/21, then a 19 storey one on maakri 34 then a 24 storey building on maakri 24/22

these are not mearly visions they are projects and plans currently in the hands of city planners waiting for approval ;)

i listed 11 new buildings, if we add the existing six we get a total of 17 HIGH highrises in CBD by hopefully 2008/09

Well, I think I said it sometime ago but still: I think that NCC of Vilnius is not going to be a tough competitor in terms of skyline for other capitals - Riga and Tallinn. I doubt if even 28 floor register center will be approved (it'll most probably be lowered to some ~24 floors). I think that NCC will not have tall towers - it'll be massive and short. ;) But it'll be bigger than e.g. new district in Tallinn (not sure about Riga though) - it's obvious, there are more people, more companies in Lithuania than in Estonia (population of Lithuania is ~2.6 times bigger).

well true, the CBD in tallinn cant contain alot towers! Well run out of space! There is space for max 15-20 towers left in Maakri area!

Mantas
April 6th, 2005, 04:57 PM
^^^ Won't be a competitor? ATM it is a tough competitor and possibly the best skyline in the region. There there are no signs that the development of NCC would stop. In other words, height doesn't mean everything.

Height? isn't ET high enough? Currently there's no a sinle serious proposal in Tallinn or Riga which would be taller than that.

ch1le
April 6th, 2005, 05:22 PM
seriously? There are 2 40floor proposals in tallinn ;), plus Tartu mnt 15 which will go uc soon is taller by floor count and possibly height, even though its a cheating spire :P
and im sure riga has Taller proposals...
quite frankly, 129m is high... but not high enough

As I said, height isn't the most important part.

But look at the quantity

I'm a bit confused. What is proposed near BCC2 ? And what is proposed near Narbuto street ?

It's heightening of that Oracle building. They want it to be 12 floors ;)

And if you mean those near Laisves avenue, there were some proposals a year ago, but nothing is heard for now. It was 2 >20fl residentials.

Near BCC2
Expansion of Ukio Bankas building. They want to add more floor's.

Don't know about Narbuto street..

Some years ago we were counting every smaller building and 12 floor building was something unusual. Today we just can't count all high-rises which are being U/C - atleast I use to forget about some projects. Sometimes we just see some crane in some place and we learn that there is e.g. 16-floorer U/C. But I admit that high-rises are sprawled through all the city.

I know that Tallinn is going to build a "MANHATAN" , but... Vilnius, probabely is going to buid some "SHANGHAI" or "HONG KONG" :) ( i speak about quantity)

Yeah... Riga last year announced lots of new highrise projects but since then there is stagnation. Even the firm promises to build "da Vinci" and "Akropolis" now sound a bit less serious - they had to be half built already according to the promises, but nothing happening there yet :(
Something would be built in Riga for sure... but it would be hard to catch Vilnius and Tallinn in terms of highrise district. I am still expecting that one day in Kipsala will be simultaneous construction of 20 highrises - then we have a chance. After all - there is demand.
Another glimpse of hope - the Kipsala highrise district is planned very carefully and we have hope for damn good-looking, impressive and cosy highrise district.

And regarding the highest skyscraper in Baltics - yes, @John is correct. There has been nothing above 129 m announced officially in Riga. 145 m building in Skanstes Street seems to be out of question for five years at least - there are no current plans for buildings above 30 floors. The highest "Panorama Plaza" without spire could be 105 - 110 m high (floor height - 3 m + covering between the floors). There is possibility that the spire will make it higher than 129 m... but it would be weird to count it. Detailed plan in Kipsala envisages 160 - 180 m building/buildings but have not heard realistic plans behind this yet.
- - -
Another thing regarding Vilnius - if they set height limit 129 m or similar in NCC... it only means thet there will be higher number of highrises.
