My culutre history teacher drives a Lada two but a diferent model, and in front of the school it looks a bit funny ... a Mercedes and a Lada side by side

Usually I just cross districts like this and move further to my destination. Purvciems is separated from Bikernieki forest by several streets and so it`s not connected with forest directly.

However, many of forests surrounding Riga and in Riga itself, are very nice - pine trees, sand dunes, small lakes. Also garbage in some places. Thankfully, there are some ongoing activities, like project "Pēdas" FOOTPRINTS, to make these places cleaner.

Acctually Purvciems is from the from Ieriķu and Biķernieku street (in the north) to A.Deglava street (in the south) and from the railway (in the west) to Strautu and Lielvārdes street (in the east) and so has a direct contact with the Biķernieku forest.

Yes, but you still have to cross Lielvardes street to get into forest. No footbridge or bike tunnel.

It`s better in Teika - neighbourhood north of Purvciems. I used this comparison, because Riga suffers from this problem in many places. Most notorious example is Daugava riverside - it`s not that easy to get to the river in most cases. Riverside and forests are not well connected with people in the city - legacy of Soviet city planning.

Nice pics. These commies need some renovation and painting. Penultimate commieblock`s colour looks horrible, but i.e. last commieblock architecture is pretty stylish.

I have a Riga book from soviet times - there is some aerials from Riga commieblock ditricts (and yes, red flowers, Ladas and red wearing happy singing child'ren..). I can scan them sometimes. :)

Why dont you just take picture of shit and say "it is real Riga"?

There isn't one real Riga. We are all living in different realities, because we notice in our surroundings different things.

If you walk around seaching for every little garbage and shit than the cleanest city in the world will seem like a dump.

I am not walking around searching for shit, that's why my sense of real Riga is a bit different.

Cool down man ... I like Riga the way it is ...

I'm sure Purvciems is just as much a part of Riga as other. Yet, if you don't mind my saying so, your neighborhood could stand some upgrading. I know it'll become prettier all by itself once the trees and shrubs get their leaves ... spring is in the air! :okay:

Well, there are those here at S&B from each country. You just need to look around a bit. :) How close is Purvciems 3 from the downtown?

Purvciems from 12th floor - it`s nice. You can see other parts of the city, landmarks and forests too.

Actually I don't the exact border of Purvciems 3 ... in Soviet times most of the disctricts in Riga were divided in several parts acoording to the stage it was built ... Purvciems 3 is the last part of Purvciems ... so it's the news ... but here is a map of downtown and the red border could be from Purvciems 3
