No smurfturf but a great game tonight. I PVR'd the game in high def so I'll try to get some screen shots if I ever get time. Lots of good aerials and a big temp stand in the open end. This was the first time I had seen the exterior at night. Very much a wow.

I agree, the stadium looked GREAT tonight. I really liked the temp stands. Eventually, if the Cardinals ever succeed on the field, they will make those permanent. They looked REALLY good.

Wow, so that's what HD looks like...sweet.

That Statue of Liberty Play was insane!!!

rantanamo
January 2nd, 2007, 05:43 PM
Yes, HD is sweet indeed. I got a 37 inch LCD before the football season started and I must say the visuals really glue you to the set. These caps were from Fox's 720p(1280x720 for the HD illiterate) that is upconverted to 1360x768, which is the res of my set. The caps don't do it justice though. Awesome picture and sound.

And that was an awesome game. Don't know which play was best, the Statue of Liberty, end around TD pass or the hook and lateral(my vote). Not to mention, dude got engaged after scoring the winning td, LOL.

The blimp shots really make the stadium look out of this world. They should definitely make the temporary seats permanent though.

for those that missed the game or at least went to bed after the OU interceptions, here is the end of the game. Incredible ending with all of the trick plays Boise St threw out there. For those that don't follow college football, Boise St was a huge underdog

What's the OT rule in College Football? Each team gets a shot?

rantanamo
January 3rd, 2007, 01:52 AM
each team gets to play on offense from the defending team's 25 yard line. If after these two possessions its still tied they go to the next overtime. If they make it to a third overtime and/or beyond, each team MUST by rule try for 2 on the extra point.

I would love to go to an american college football game. It is amazing that that world class facility is a college stadium.

th0m
January 3rd, 2007, 02:36 PM
It's not actually a college stadium, but they just use it for one college game a year (and a huge one at that). Just like the Superdome in New Orleans gets used. This stadium will be the setting of another college game on January 8 btw, the BCS Championship game, Ohio State versus Florida. Although 'champion' is fairly relative, the teams that play in this game get picked by pollsters...(but that's for another thread...)

There are some college teams though, that don't have their own stadium, and rent an NFL stadium when it's not in use by the NFL team. USF rents Raymond James stadium in Tampa, Tennessee State rents LP Field, the University of Pittsburgh rents Heinz Field, Temple rents Lincoln Financial Field, and so on.

60,000 expected at soccer match
Carrie Watters
The Arizona Republic
Feb. 7, 2007 12:00 PM

Expect traffic. More than 60,000 soccer fans will head to Glendale tonight for a soldout match between the U.S. National Team and Mexico.

The game, the second professional soccer match at University of Phoenix Stadium, sold out late Tuesday night.

Stadium officials aren't surprised. "It's a huge match," said Scott Norton, the director of marketing for Global Spectrum, which books stadium events.

Fans should allow time for traffic. Parking lots open at 3 p.m. for tailgating and the stadium gates open at 5 p.m., two hours before the start time.

A packed stadium is no surprise to soccer enthusiasts like Sam Kajoba. He said Valley residents from Mexico, Africa and other parts of the world are hungry for soccer.

"It's a good game," he said Monday. "I love it."

Kajoba, a Zambia native living in Phoenix, already has his tickets for tonight's game. The 28-year-old said he was disappointed when he moved here four years ago to discover the Valley did not boast its own professional team."I'd love to see big-time soccer in Arizona," he said.

This is the second major soccer match at the stadium, which has built a reputation among gridiron fans, but was also built with another form of football in mind. The field was designed wide enough to allow for international soccer matches. The stadium's soccer christening came on Halloween as 40,496 fans watched an exhibition match between Mexican rivals Chivas and Club America.

While the stadium seems to be galvanizing Valley soccer fans, the Glendale venue would not be a likely choice for a full-time professional team. It's too big. Major League Soccer prefers a stadium that's between 18,000 and 30,000 seats.

Also, the league prefers soccer-specific stadiums after spending most of its 12-year history in NFL venues.

The league is in the midst of expansion and expects enthusiasm to grow as English soccer legend David Beckham crosses the Atlantic to play with the Los Angeles Galaxy this summer.

While University of Phoenix Stadium might not be ideal for a permanent professional team, stadium officials said they would put their name in the ring if the United States bids to host another World Cup.

"If it's out there, we'd certainly go after it," Norton said.

The most watched sporting event in the world, the World Cup happens every four years, with South Africa playing host in 2010. The one and only time America hosted the World Cup was in 1994, with matches played in nine cities across the country from Los Angeles to Dallas and Boston.

GLENDALE - At a WWE Superstar-studded press conference this past Tuesday, the announcement rang forth that on Sunday, March 28, 2010, WrestleMania XXVI will come to Arizona’s University of Phoenix Stadium.

John Cena, Chris Jericho, Kelly Kelly, Kofi Kingston, Women’s Champion Melina and others were joined by Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs, Arizona Cardinals’ coach Ken Whisenhunt and University of Phoenix Stadium General Manager Peter Sullivan, all of who enthusiastically welcomed WWE at the University of Phoenix Stadium. PHOTOS

This marks the first time the Glendale/Phoenix area will play host to WrestleMania and the electrifying, history-making phenomenon promises to add to the marvelous splendor and financial prosperity of its gracious host. In 2008, WrestleMania XXIV pumped $50 million into the local Orlando economy and set the Citrus Bowl attendance record with 74,635 fans from all 50 states, five Canadian provinces and 21 countries.

This year, the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania will take place in Houston’s Reliant Stadium on April 5, where it is expected to set the stadium attendance record.

WrestleMania XXVI will be televised to more than 100 countries, proving once again that it is truly an international sensation. Visitors from around the world are expected to flock to Arizona and participate in a week’s worth of activities that will culminate with WrestleMania XXVI. The week-long celebration will feature WrestleMania Axxess, WWE Hall of Fame, WrestleManiArt, exhibition, Monday Night Raw and a WrestleMania “Rocks the Block” street party.

Venue record for Gold Cup
(FIFA.com) Monday 9 March 2009

The tenth CONCACAF Gold Cup - North, Central America and the Caribbean's biannual cup of nations - will be played in 13 venues across the United States in July 2009. The number of cities is a record for the competition, and more than twice as many than have been used in previous instalments, won four times each by Mexico and the USA.

"By expanding the Gold Cup to 13 venues, it will give fans more opportunity to experience the championship in person," said CONCACAF President and FIFA vice-president Jack Warner. "While 13 cities create logistical challenges, we think the benefits of reaching out to more venues are clearly worthwhile," CONCACAF General Secretary Chuck Blazer added. "The ability of so many people to see national teams play we feel is well worth the effort."

The 2009 finals will be the second time on the trot that the USA, current holders of the title, will host. The Americans have, in fact, hosted all of Gold Cup tournaments, twice sharing duties with Mexico. The host cities for 2009 are: Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Columbus, Washington DC, Houston, Miami, Boston, Phoenix, Philadelphia (quarter-finals), Dallas (quarter-finals), Chicago (semi-finals) and New York (final).

The tournament will use the same format as in 2005 and 2007, with a 12-team field divided into three groups of four teams each. The top two finishers from each group advance to the quarter-finals along with the two best third-place teams.

Canada, Mexico and the USA will represent the North American Zone at the finals. Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua will participate from Central America (UNCAF) and Jamaica, Grenada, Guadeloupe and Haiti come from the Caribbean.

CONCACAF Gold Cup To Play Record 13 U.S. Cities

This summer's tournament will be played in a record 13 U.S. cities.

Mar 9, 2009 11:54:42 AM

The 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup will take place in a record number of U.S. cities this year, with the number reaching an astonishing 13.

“By expanding the Gold Cup to 13 venues, it will give fans more opportunity to experience the championship in person,” said CONCACAF President Jack Warner.

13 venues doubles the previous number from continental championship and surpasses the 10 sites used in the 1982 and 2002 World Cups.

“While 13 cities create logistical challenges, we think the benefits of reaching out to more venues are clearly worthwhile,” CONCACAF General Secretary Chuck Blazer said. “The ability of so many people to see national teams play we feel is well worth the effort.”

Four cities will make their CONCACAF Gold Cup debuts (Columbus, Phoenix, Philadelphia and Washington), while a quarter final match will be the first ever sporting event played at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium.

This year’s tournament will kick-off from the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles on July 3rd, and will conclude with the final being played at Giants Stadium on July 26th.

The full breakdown of the schedule is below:

First Round
3 July – The Home Depot Center (Los Angeles)
4 July – Qwest Field (Seattle)
5 July – Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (San Francisco)
7 July – Crew Stadium (Columbus, Ohio)
8 July – Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium (Washington)
9 July – Reliant Stadium (Houston)
10 July – Florida International University Stadium (Miami)
11 July – Gillette Stadium (Boston)
12 July – University of Phoenix Stadium (Phoenix)

Quarterfinals
18 July – Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia)
19 July – Dallas Cowboys New Stadium (Dallas)

Semifinals
23 July – Soldier Field (Chicago)

Final
26 July – Giants Stadium (New York)

I’m here at the University of Phoenix Stadium, two hours before the NFC championship game between Philadelphia and Arizona kicks off.

Weird place.

I could see it a couple of miles before getting to it, here in Glendale. You can’t miss it. You probably can’t miss it from outer space.

Its exterior “skin” resembles a barrel cactus. That’s plant life unfamiliar to my Cedar Rapids neighborhood. Then again, so are the crazy concepts that have out here that are sunshine and warm weather.

But maybe they cant cause how they have theyre rigging, lighting and stages setup. Good choice though, anyone know what the expected sellout crowd would be? 72k-75k i believe is stated.

Why should WWE be illegal?

WWE and the City of Orlando hosted festivities that spanned a five-day period within the central Florida region. Over one million people ordered the event on pay-per-view, grossing $23.8 million in revenue."

"Muhammad Ali and James Brown acknowledged that their own approach to flamboyant self-promotion was influenced by George. A 19-year old Ali met a 46-year old George at a Las Vegas radio station. During George's radio interview, the wrestler's promo caught the attention of the future heavyweight champion. If George lost to Classy Freddie Blassie, George exclaimed, "I'll crawl across the ring and cut my hair off! But that's not gonna happen because I'm the greatest wrestler in the world!" Ali recalled, "I saw 15,000 people comin' to see this man get beat. And his talking did it. I said, 'This is a gooood idea!'" In the locker room afterwards, the seasoned wrestler gave the future legend some invaluable advice: "A lot of people will pay to see someone shut your mouth. So keep on bragging, keep on sassing and always be outrageous."

Atlanta is getting ready to rumble.

The city is seeking to host WrestleMania XXVII in 2011, which could bring 100,000 fans to the Georgia Dome for the wrestling match and its week of activities.

Atlanta is going toe-to-toe with Miami to try to pin down the event, which will be held either the last week of March or the first week of April 2011.

Atlanta officials should know by the end of September or early October which city has been selected.

WrestleMania is the flagship event of Stamford, Conn.-based World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. (NYSE: WWE), a kind of “Super Bowl” of professional wrestling.

“This has the potential to be a huge economic impact,” said Gary Stokan, president of the Atlanta Sports Council, which promotes college and pro sports in metro Atlanta.

“The business of WrestleMania is big business,” said John Saboor, senior vice president of special events for WWE.

Orlando hosted WrestleMania XXIV in 2008 and realized a $51.5 million economic impact and Detroit hosted the event in 2007 and saw a $29.7 million economic impact, he said.

Houston hosted WrestleMania XXV this year with an attendance of 72,744, and although final figures are not in, “we believe we will have produced a significant windfall for our host community,” Saboor said.

Those attending the event in Houston represented all 50 states, 24 countries and seven Canadian provinces.

“This is truly a worldwide event,” Saboor said. “For our worldwide fans, WrestleMania is an important annual tradition. I think that was underscored in a year when the world was challenged by a troubled economy.”

Atlanta is no stranger to the professional wrestling business. Atlanta businessman Ted Turner bought a company in 1998 that became World Championship Wrestling, a rival to what is now the WWE. Turner’s WCW was sold in 2001 to the World Wrestling Federation, which became the WWE.
Cyclical host

If Atlanta successfully hosts the 2011 WrestleMania, the city could be on tap to host the event every four to six years, Stokan said.

Stokan would like to position Atlanta to be a host city for major sporting events in a routine cycle, such as the NCAA Final Four, which Atlanta will host in 2013.

Stokan, as well as representatives from the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Georgia Dome, Philips Arena and the Georgia World Congress Center, met with WWE officials earlier this month.

“Our work in placing WrestleMania is really centered around crafting true community partnerships that have within them public and private sectors,” Saboor said.

The company looks for cities with “the kinds of infrastructure that can support our worldwide fan base, that are destinations,” he said, “that can not only participate in hosting the event, but build a layer of opportunities that come with WrestleMania.”

That’s because WrestleMania has grown beyond a single-day event, Saboor said. “We now have a week of events and our objective is to create additional ancillary events within the framework of WrestleMania which cause our fans to come early and stay late.”

For example, WrestleMania events kick off with an art exhibit of some of the work done by WrestleMania stars, Saboor said.

There is also WrestleMania Axxess, a four-day fan fest, which would occur at the Georgia World Congress Center and a Hall of Fame induction ceremony at either The Fox Theatre or Philips Arena, Stokan said.

Btw...we still don't know who will host WM27.

I think that Wrestlemania 27 should go to Atlanta, Wrestlemania 28 in Seattle, Wrestlemania 29 in Dallas , and Wrestlemania 30 in NYC.

watch the new south park, they get paid to act.

Right. Because South Park has all the answers. Read this.

Sports stars, rock stars, film stars. A triumvirate of personalities who command the attentions of millions on a daily basis whilst seldom worrying about their profession being dragged through the dirt by every corner of the media. So why, despite being one of the eldest forms of entertainment, from it’s days on the carnival circuit to selling out arenas worldwide, is wrestling, and it’s superstars, still not wholly welcome on this list?

Bono flies to Africa to raise awareness of the plight of millions of starving children. My hat goes off to him. But it also goes off to the WWE superstars who have travelled to Iraq for each of the past six years to perform for the American troops serving out there. How many other sports personalities have braved that mission once let alone six times?

The only time it seems the national and international media are remotely interested in wrestling is when there’s a steroid scandal. As disgusting as it sounds, some members of the tabloids must have been rubbing their hands together when Chris Benoit killed his family and them himself back in the Summer of 2007. Another chance to deliver a series of low blows to this lowest common denominator form of ‘entertainment’ that masquerades as a sport, they were undoubtedly thinking.

Never mind that drug scandals are not exclusive to the world of wrestling. Baseball, American football and regular football have all had their fair share of performers with substance abuse problems. Yet are these sports and their superstars hung out to dry in the same manner as the superstars who grace the squared circle every night?

The WWE was the second most searched for term on Yahoo for each of the last two years. Coming second only to mental patient Brtiney Spears last year. Yep, that’s right, even Nobel Peace Prize winning saviour of the world Barrack Obama failed to oust the ‘E’ from it’s silver medal slot. Yet the company still receives less press coverage than Paris Hilton and her inability to wear underwear on a night on the town. Madonna tears away another Malawian baby from it’s family to bestow an extreme lifestyle of riches and media spotlight on it, just to ensure people are still talking about her and ignoring her latest attempt at an album, and guess what? It works. Yet the WWE works tirelessly alongside the Make – A –Wish Foundation and no one so much as bats an eyelid, because y’know, they’re wrestling people so who cares?

How about the fact that every year the company’s flagship PPV event Wrestlemania boosts the economy of whichever city it’s held in? Generating millions of dollars in revenue whilst creating thousands of jobs. In a time where the economy is severely failing in America and across the world, isn’t this the type of story that should be earning more than just a few column inches in the daily press? A company creates employment for thousands and pours millions into an area and yet again, because it’s a ‘fake’ sport that was the reason behind this financial success story, the media turns a blind eye for the most part and focuses instead on the continued failings of the economy. Because the general public are of course completely unaware of the state the country is in so they need to be reminded on an almost hourly basis.

Then you compare the schedule of a wrestler to that of a footballer or a baseball player or an actor. Which profession is the least financially viable? Ok, at the bottom rungs of each of these career paths, it’s all much of a muchness, with young aspiring stars eagerly anticipating the big break that will catapult them into superstardom. But just compare the big names in football (soccer) and in Hollywood and then in the WWE. Cristiano Ronaldo’s services cost Real Madrid £80m ($128m roughly) this Summer and each week they part with a further lump of anywhere between £150k - £200k in wages. Now add bonuses, sponsorship deals and his signing on fee and pretty quickly you’re losing count of the number of zeroes that are attached to the end of his annual earnings. This is hardly an isolated case either in the football world as many top flight players earn easily in excess of £100k per week.

This type of money is bestowed upon them for taking part in a handful of training sessions every week and playing at most two 90 minute games of football per week over the course of a nine month season. I’m sure it’s the same in baseball, American football and basketball too. Similarly, a good actor can command millions of dollars without even needing to audition for a part nowadays and all that is asked of them in return is a couple of months work. Cameron Diaz leant her services to Dreamworks for the second Shrek film for a total of 10 hours. Her fee? In excess of $10m. I’m sure many of us wouldn’t mind working for a million dollars an hour either. I’m also sure some main event talent in the WWE would swoon at the chance to earn a million dollars a year, let alone an hour.

Yet, the life of a wrestler involves no off season. It involves just as, if not more of a rigorous training regime than any other sport. It also involves extended time away from family and constant travelling from one side of the country to the other, not to mention overseas trips and let’s not forget those autograph signing sessions either. This is before I mention the fact that these road weary superstars have to fight four times a week, without any health insurance forthcoming from their employers and must pay their own travel expenses, whilst worrying about whether they can keep their spot on the card despite being in competition for TV time with upwards of 30 fellow superstars on their designated roster. And this dedication isn’t worthy of more mainstream credibility why? Why for the most part do non wrestling fans associate the sport (because it IS a sport) with ridicule? Oh yeah, because it involves men in tights pretending to hit each other.

Yeah, because that’s not as ridiculous as every soap opera that’s ever been aired on television. It’s obviously also not as ridiculous as the sport of American football which involves overpaid athletes taking a break every 5-10 seconds, thus making an hour long game last about five hours. It’s a bunch of guys in uniform chasing a ball around a field. Just like regular football is 22 men in shorts running around a field kicking a ball for 90 minutes before heading for a group shower at the end of the game. I’m not mocking these sports, far from it, but rather pointing out how at base, they’re premise is still pretty ridiculous. And they require far less effort and self sacrifice than pro wrestling.

Without meaning to sound clichéd, I’d like to see how many of wrestling’s critics would last in one of these ‘fake’ fights.

Wrestling for me, and millions of others around the world, provides an escape from reality for a few hours every week. It allows us to be distracted from the news of recession and unemployment and war. Every one of the modern world’s ugly facets will still be there waiting to greet us when the curtain comes down on another show, but for the few hours we spend watching these spandex clad loons entertain us, we can forget about those facets and everything else, just like when we watch a film or a football match. Why more people can’t see this and decide to sneer whenever the word ‘wrestling’ is mentioned is frankly, beyond me.

I’m not standing on my soapbox demanding that the entire world tunes into Monday Night Raw every week (although I’m sure Vince Mcmahon certainly wouldn’t mind that) but I am standing on my soapbox asking for the wrestling world to be afforded the same respect as any other form of sport or entertainment. It’s no more sleazy than the rest of the sporting world and let’s face it, where’s more sleazy and fake (there’s that word again) than Hollywood?

Bluejays753

STAMFORD, Conn., October 26, 2009 – World Wrestling Entertainment® announced today that The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania generated a $49.8 million dollar economic windfall for the greater Houston area, according to a study conducted by the Enigma Research Corporation. Despite one of the biggest economic downturns in recent history, local and state governments collected $5.7 million in taxes. This follows the $51.5 million of economic impact WrestleMania XXIV brought to Orlando.

“Having the opportunity to host The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania was a huge honor and success,” said Greg Ortale, President and CEO of the Greater Houston Convention & Visitor’s Bureau. “The direct expenditure demonstrates that WrestleMania is indeed economically on par with the world’s greatest sports and entertainment offerings.”

“Our overarching goal with our public and private sector partners is to consistently provide positive economic impact for WrestleMania’s host communities and establish a lasting pro-social legacy, “said John P. Saboor, Senior Vice President of Special Events for World Wrestling Entertainment.

A capacity crowd of 72,744 from all 50 states, 24 countries and seven Canadian provinces attended the pop culture extravaganza. Key highlights from the study included:

- $49.8 million of direct, indirect and induced impact derived from spending by non-locals visiting specifically for The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, equating to 600 full time jobs for the area.
- During WrestleMania Week, 86% of out of state, overnight visitors who came in for the festivities, stayed in local Houston area hotels. 67% stayed for three nights or more.
- Nearly 75% of fans that came to The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania from outside of Houston traveled by air.
- 23% of the fans that came from out of state were from California and New York.
- Nearly 65% of the fans that attended were between the ages of 10 and 34.

Next year, WrestleMania XXVI will take place March 28, 2010 from University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ. Tickets go on sale Saturday, November 7 at 10 AM MT through the University of Phoenix Stadium box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com, or charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000. The event will be broadcast live on pay-per-view, and viewed in more than 100 countries.

Hey they released they're plans for how the stadium will be for Wrestlemania 26, hope i can post this link.

http://www.wwe.com/magazine/magazinefeatures10/featureoftheweek20100212/

I like it, glad they are hopefully gonna open the roof and bring an open air design. Reliant stadium last year seemed alittle confined at times, especially with the roof being so dark and effecting the scale of it all.

My concern is again with the lighting and cameras effecting the scale of it all. They did a horrible job at Ford Field and Reliant Stadium, i didnt see anywhere near 70k-80 k fans.

I'm beginning to have second thoughts about leaving the roof open for Wrestlemania. First of all, it is a retractable roof stadium. Usually when WWE events are held at these type of venues, the roof usually remains closed. If the Cardinals Stadium hosts Wrestlemania a second time, let the roof remain closed. Second of all, I got the following info from Wikpedia:

According to the special "2010 WrestleMania Almanac" issue of WWE Magazine, the roof of the University of Phoenix Stadium will be open for the event, marking the third time in WrestleMania history after WrestleManias IX and XXIV that the event will be held in an open-air venue. Like the previous open-air events, a tarpaulin will be placed over the ring, which will be placed at the 50-yard line. Over 1,000 lights will be used that will adapt to the decrease in sunlight as the show continues into the night. The entrance stage will stand 8 feet (2.4 m) off the stadium floor and measure 120 feet (37 m) wide. The entrance ramp linking to the stage will be lined with cauldrons of fire, each at a temperature of 1,000 °F (538 °C). In addition, 400,000 individual pieces of pyrotechnic product will be launched 200 feet (61 m) into the open air.

But believe me, the University of Phoenix Stadium is no Citrus Bowl.

- $49.8 million of direct, indirect and induced impact derived from spending by non-locals visiting specifically for The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, equating to 600 full time jobs for the area.As someone who deals with local government and their economic development efforts I grow tired of such misleading propaganda. I don't doubt that this event, like many other touring stadium events, produced a heady amount of money circulating through the local economy, so I won't even contest the specific figure offered. As a rule they're all overblown.

What I find contentious about this promotional tidbit is the language regarding jobs. The wording seems to imply the value of the economic impact as "equaling" the amount needed to fund 600 FT jobs (at some unknown wage level). This is possible but is only vaguely provable and, more importantly, isn't a necessary barometer for their purposes. Clearly the event didn't create 600 new full-time jobs, unless they hid the idea that these jobs only lasted a few days. Thus, it seems they included that reference knowing full well the economics of the day and age, linking their presence with true job growth. Yet while they and other touring acts are indeed crucial to local economies this kind of subliminal representation is what contributes to the confusion and sometime mismanagement at government and pseudo-government offices (Chambers of Commerce, Development Authorities). It'd be so much more factual and simpler to say "We paid $X to the facility owners, produced $Y in concession and merchandise sales and contributed to Z nights of hotel occupancies." But of course, those figures wouldn't be as big, wouldn't be as sexy, and wouldn't have the key word "jobs" to gloss over.

I get it, but as someone who has to help elected officials make educated decisions this kind of stuff chaps my hide.

Rant off.

Interesting that they are going open air with this stadium as opposed to a closed Reliant Stadium last year. I would say the canopy makes the stadium seem not so big...but damn do those poeple look small, hope to see some more sneak peeks before the big show.

wwe.com has it at 12 Minutes to close, not sure if its different in any way to open.

With this year's WrestleMania starting in just thirty minutes, I thought I'd post up this selection of photos taken from the past twenty-five WrestleManias.

http://www.wwe.com/shows/wrestlemania/photos/venues/

There are some cool photos here including many crowd shots taken from the cheap seats. :)

EDIT: This is taken from tonight's show at the University of Phoenix Stadium:

(Taken from: http://www.flickr.com/photos/deepsamurai/ )

The large selection of seats blanked off are behind where the main camera is. The roof is open hence the structure above the ring.

ps. Anyone who wants to whine it's fake blah, blah, blah can go elsewhere. :gunz:

There are plenty of other threads on this forum that feature crowd shots from football etc and stadium/arena interiors, this is not different.

Your original 'LOL' (Gawd, I hate that phrase! :bash:) comment was just sneering because it was wrestling.

I believe that this is thread worthy as these events have been held at multiple stadiums and arenas and there wouldn't be an appropiate thread to post in.

The thread title is very clear, so that anyone with zero interest in the subject does not have to click onto the thread.

I have zero interest in many of the of the threads on SkyscraperCity (and other forums) and here's the amazing self control I've discovered, I SIMPLY DON'T CLICK ON THEM. :ohno:

It is up to the moderators to decide if this subject is worthy of it's own thread.

Back on topic: Since kennerado posted up WrestleMania 3, I thought I'd post up SummerSlam 1992 held at Wembley Stadium which unofficially was the largest ever WWF/WWE attendance (WM3's attendance was known to be greatly over-exaggerated).

For people (like me) who love seeing stadiums full of people (remember, apart from concerts usually the pitch does not contain the audience) plus high quality stage sets and pyrotechnics I do think they're amazing.

Anyway, I've changed the thread title just for you. Sorry to waste many minutes of your life.
