View Full Version : Have mankind gotten wiser?
loureed April 9th, 2005, 06:08 AM What would you say?
Is the character of Man constant? The amount of suffering inflected today is no different than in the past but in a santitized form?
We are now more ecologically conscious, more considerate of different cultures, lifestyles, and more charitable to third world nations instead of colonizing them.
Or have new problems sprung up to replace the ones we have fixed?

eusebius April 9th, 2005, 06:30 AM Yes, we have gotten wiser but alas more people seem to alienate themselves from mankind. Some people use the internet to broaden their perspective while other use the net to spread more bigotry.
Raza April 9th, 2005, 06:53 AM yes, but i disagree, some cultures in some parts of the world are still very primitive.
Jasonhouse April 9th, 2005, 08:18 AM I was thinking so, then Bush and his minions came to power. That alone set the entire planet back at least 50 years IMO.
Pobbie Rarr April 9th, 2005, 10:48 AM ^I also think aspects of Thatcherism have held back the UK, since they work based on our basic primal instincts. As integral as greed is to human nature, we should as a society be trying to move away from relying upon it as we did in the Stone Age. After all, being able to control and suppress our instincts is what makes us advanced lifeforms, no? But then Thatcher believed there to be "no such thing as society". :ohno:
caw123 April 9th, 2005, 10:57 AM We think we have, but we know nothing.
Pobbie Rarr April 9th, 2005, 10:58 AM ^Very deep and thought-provoking. :)

Sexy Beast April 9th, 2005, 12:55 PM No, where still fighting wars but with ever more powerful weapons, still killing the earth but at a greater speed and we still have mountains of surplus food while half the earth's people starve.
I don't think where wise infact where barbaric.
JDRS April 9th, 2005, 01:13 PM Yes, I think we have but we have a long way to go yet before we are wise, or at least the majority of people are. There is still greed, war, poverty and countless problems we have caused unfortunately.
