New York and Chicago skylines are lot bigger. Squiggles March 4th, 2011, 08:30 PM 7/10 One would expect the second-largest city in the United States to have a larger skyline, with perhaps two or three supertalls. That said, the skyline is extremely well balanced, and the architecture (especially Library Tower and California Plaza) is quite nice. I hope that the skyline continues to expand outwards and upwards. desertpunk March 8th, 2011, 11:26 AM http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5251/5498682446_d36fee313e_o.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sterlingdavisphoto/5498682446/) Griffith Park Pano 11.29.10 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sterlingdavisphoto/5498682446/) by STERLINGDAVISPHOTO (http://www.flickr.com/people/sterlingdavisphoto/), on Flickr MelboyPete March 8th, 2011, 04:19 PM LA night shots are amazing. khoojyh March 9th, 2011, 05:03 PM http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_vgDbI_2AfqE/TS0UKW6sBeI/AAAAAAAAATQ/jpxUkxh7I2o/s1600/battle-los-angeles-2.jpg http://www.comingsoon.net/gallery/43986/Battle:_Los_Angeles_9.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1Tu6nsEVLvk/TN6Ynq8Mi9I/AAAAAAAAAZs/G6LPSkRn_vg/s1600/battle-los-angeles1-570x268.jpg http://0.tqn.com/d/movies/1/0/k/3/X/battle-los-angeles-photo7.jpg khoojyh March 9th, 2011, 05:04 PM http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_vgDbI_2AfqE/TS0UKW6sBeI/AAAAAAAAATQ/jpxUkxh7I2o/s1600/battle-los-angeles-2.jpg http://www.comingsoon.net/gallery/43986/Battle:_Los_Angeles_9.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1Tu6nsEVLvk/TN6Ynq8Mi9I/AAAAAAAAAZs/G6LPSkRn_vg/s1600/battle-los-angeles1-570x268.jpg http://0.tqn.com/d/movies/1/0/k/3/X/battle-los-angeles-photo7.jpg Kintoy March 10th, 2011, 09:15 PM 7.5/10 SO143 March 31st, 2011, 05:30 AM http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5106/5573662486_7d34946783_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kidsloveanimals/5573662486/)City of Angles (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kidsloveanimals/5573662486/) by KidsLoveAnimals (http://www.flickr.com/people/kidsloveanimals/), on Flickr haikiller11 March 31st, 2011, 05:36 AM http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_vgDbI_2AfqE/TS0UKW6sBeI/AAAAAAAAATQ/jpxUkxh7I2o/s1600/battle-los-angeles-2.jpg http://www.comingsoon.net/gallery/43986/Battle:_Los_Angeles_9.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1Tu6nsEVLvk/TN6Ynq8Mi9I/AAAAAAAAAZs/G6LPSkRn_vg/s1600/battle-los-angeles1-570x268.jpg http://0.tqn.com/d/movies/1/0/k/3/X/battle-los-angeles-photo7.jpg Bloody oath, this film sucks! 94rocket March 31st, 2011, 06:52 AM http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5251/5498682446_d36fee313e_o.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sterlingdavisphoto/5498682446/) Griffith Park Pano 11.29.10 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/sterlingdavisphoto/5498682446/) by STERLINGDAVISPHOTO (http://www.flickr.com/people/sterlingdavisphoto/), on Flickr ^^ I adore this image, very beautiful L.A it has a special delight. The mountains and urban basin render the high-rises as fairly trivial. In a more intimate environment, LA's downtown would seem much more substantial, but I think that big country is part of the appeal of the Western United States. Owing to film and television, it's also quite iconic and would probably be one of the more recognisable skylines in the world. There is some serious bias here. It's a great looking skyline, but you have to bring the city's size into the equation before rating it. If LA had a population of 1 million, it would get an 8.5. But it has 4 million people, so... its gets a 6/10. LA is a beautiful city, and has a gorgeous skyline, but it's extremely weak for it's size. There are seemingly hundreds of skyscrapers outside of LA, in small clusters like Century City, but also just spread out all over the place. I drove through the city last may for about 6 hours, and let me tell you, there's a lot more than downtown. I think it's mostly attributable to the fact that no one really wants to live downtown. Downtown is not a very desirable place to live, it feels desolate. So, the only reason to build condos if not building downtown would be for the views of the city. However, hills surround the city, and this makes views quite ample that are much better than what skyscrapers can offer. However, hills surround the city, and this makes views quite ample that are much better than what skyscrapers can offer. this was true 10 years ago. now? not so much. The downtown population is up to 55,000 (i live down here and as a realtor, i can tell you the demand for downtown grows every day. Rental vacancy is at 3% with high rents) The reason that we didnt see many new ground up towers (about 10 were built in the last boom) is that the downtown renaissance started with rehabs of the vast historic building stock. now that a majority of these buildings are accounted for, we are seeing numerous 20 - 40 story buildings proposed and that are to break ground in the next year. singoone May 8th, 2012, 10:45 PM Iconic skyline, LA deserves larger cluster but it´s just so iconic that i just must give it 10. :) desertpunk May 13th, 2012, 09:00 AM http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7208/6959199877_f5319cfdcd_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/neilarmstrong2/6959199877/) Sun breaks late (http://www.flickr.com/photos/neilarmstrong2/6959199877/) by Neil Kremer (http://www.flickr.com/people/neilarmstrong2/), on Flickr adolph May 14th, 2012, 01:36 PM 7/10 the skyline isn't that great, Manila-X May 14th, 2012, 02:25 PM What makes LA's skyline so unique are the multiple skyline clusters that stands out to the low-rise cityscape.
