I think those 3 pictures pretty much sum it up.
luis4083 January 11th, 2003, 04:03 AM beautiful skyline, one of my fav american skyline! 10/10
SteelCity32 January 11th, 2003, 04:14 AM LA has a nice skyline. If the inner-city wasn't so bad...
7/10
SeeMacau January 11th, 2003, 04:58 AM Beautiful skylines and very dense in the CBD
DaninTO January 11th, 2003, 05:14 AM I like how it has a very dense built up downtown. Based on the design of the towers like the library tower and gas company tower I give it a 9/10. Without them 7.5/10.
breezyboy69 January 11th, 2003, 11:39 AM nice skyline, 8/10
De Snor January 11th, 2003, 12:09 PM for a city of that size the skyline is hilarious , much to small , needs many more towers to be impressive :(
Cliff January 11th, 2003, 12:44 PM Very nice! But I agree, too small for it's size.
I like the shape of it 8.5/10
X-seed 4000 January 11th, 2003, 08:22 PM "I like how it has a very dense built up downtown. Based on the design of the towers like the library tower and gas company tower I give it a 9/10. Without them 7.5/10."
I'm sure that without the CN tower and First Canadian Place, Toronto would also be a little crappy!
Anyways, I love L.A's skyline! At night, the library tower's crown just puts you in a deep ecstatic trance!
10/10!
DaninTO January 11th, 2003, 11:31 PM X-Seed: Except that First Canadian Place is no where near as nice as the Library tower. Even with them Toronto is a little crappy.
gothicform January 12th, 2003, 12:06 AM LA like tokyo and london suffers from the problem of being massive so the skyscrapers arent in one place. the CBD of LA is impressive but thanks mostly to the library tower but as has already been mentioned that for a city so large its actually rather small. i give it 7.5.
Rainier Meadows January 12th, 2003, 12:38 AM LA's Skyline is huge especially from certain angles!
I love clusters....9/10
SUNNI January 12th, 2003, 05:43 AM a nice skyline, with a beautiful back ground to it,.. 9.5
Blah January 12th, 2003, 06:08 AM Actually pretty good and it dosen't deserve its bad rep.
8.5/10
Jeff from Winnipeg January 14th, 2003, 02:51 AM Very nice, but for a city that large it needs to be BIGGER! 8.5/10 I've always really liked the Library Tower.
kiku99 January 14th, 2003, 03:09 AM top 5 on my NA skyline list.
9/10
Pablo January 18th, 2003, 08:51 AM 8/10 nice skyline;)
Ptarmigan January 22nd, 2003, 12:35 AM I give it a 8/10. Los Angeles looks good with the mountains. Now, it would be better if all of those other skylines in Los Angeles were put into downtown Los Angeles, it would look better.
skylark January 22nd, 2003, 08:08 AM I gave it an 8/10 - it's pretty nice, but it sure could do with being a bit bigger. I mean, LA is huge! Why isn't the skyline?
ryanr January 23rd, 2003, 04:05 PM I love the LA cluster!! Especially with the mountains at the back!
9/10
renell January 23rd, 2003, 05:25 PM i like the cluster, so dense. i like 8.5
ganjavih January 26th, 2003, 11:32 AM Much too small? Who cares? It's about quality not quantity... a solid 8.5. That pic with the mountains is great!
SD February 4th, 2003, 11:24 PM 8/10
Pretty good. Although anyone who says Toronto is too boxy hasn't seen any pics of LA's skyline.
CtrlAltDel February 5th, 2003, 07:54 AM They got the location of the Library Tower spot on. The tallest in the middle, giving the skyline a peak, like a mountain. That first picture shows it best. Very nice, but for a city so big I always thought it should have been much larger. 8/10
ganjavih February 5th, 2003, 01:06 PM I think LA has a better balance of non-boxes to boxes than Toronto. Bring on Trump.
dweezy February 7th, 2003, 12:38 AM one of my favorites in NA, a little too small for the city that it is though
9/10
Eduardo Lopez February 7th, 2003, 01:26 AM the landmark and the cluster are very good... remember that when a city is so huge like this there are not way to get a skyline of all the city, so the cluster becomes the main and unique skyline.
Some better design in the skyscrapers could be great...
9/10
Thecityismine February 8th, 2003, 08:44 AM 9/10 for LA's beautiful and dynamic skyline. But still love to see more scrapers in LA.
My Favorites are Hong Kong, NYC, Chicago
:)
Wu-Gambino March 2nd, 2003, 05:41 PM 10/10
Caledon1981 March 3rd, 2003, 07:55 PM 9 for cluster and mountain background;)

Not LA'S fault! Every building over a certain height must have a helipad so it's kinda hard not to have a boxy building. On the other hand, Toronto has no excuse. Lame.
ganjavih March 11th, 2003, 08:24 AM Toronto's excuse is that its skyscrapers were built when boxes were cool! :D
Francis20 March 11th, 2003, 11:55 AM beautiful mountain background...giving the combined feel of nature and engineering masterpieces.
i gave it an 8.5/10!
Calilover89 March 13th, 2003, 04:32 AM I think the polls states rate the skyline not judge it by it's population? right....
I love the L.A. skyline....i give it a 9.99999/10.
i would give it a 10 but they didn't build the Figueroa Tower:rant:
Calilover89 March 13th, 2003, 04:36 AM By the way isn't the first picture one that was posted in the L.A. times in winter of 99'?
I remember because i saved that front page but i have it somewhere in a storage?

Ahh...didn't thnk about that one! I wonder if they will ever become cool again. If they do, Toronto will have THE coolest skyline!!! But as of right now...:bash:
ti999 March 18th, 2003, 09:54 AM Pretty good. 8/10
NyCpRojEcT89 March 19th, 2003, 01:49 AM I like. Based on population or not, the skyline needs to be bigger for the 2nd (or 3rd if you'd like to debate) most important cities in america. Still, a beauty.
8.6/10
alex3000 March 30th, 2003, 12:54 AM Wow!!!! Great pictures. I have like 10,000 pictures of Los Angeles.
weirdo April 5th, 2003, 08:35 PM beautiful. 8.5/10
HoThAi April 6th, 2003, 08:00 PM Downtown Los Angeles skyline is nice. 9.5/10
Enrique April 9th, 2003, 04:01 AM 9.5/10
giallo April 9th, 2003, 04:24 PM Very nice 9.0. Without the Library tower, it's mark would drop by three points.
Deventer Up April 9th, 2003, 08:32 PM Beautiful skyline. A 9.
Evergrey April 9th, 2003, 11:19 PM 7
Good things:
Library Tower - Simply awesome building... great height... powerful look... wonderful top
The fact that the tallest building is in the middle to make a peak of skyscrapers
High density in the CBD
Wonderful natural scenery... the mountains are tall, volatile and beautiful
Bad things:
Most buildings are boxy and bland
Skyline is rather small for city of this magnitude
I just don't find the LA skyline very interesting... but the Library Tower and the mountains rule.
DaveofCali April 11th, 2003, 02:42 AM http://www.photostogo.com/Scripts/imageget.dll/GetImagex&ImageNum=332953&VOLID=^KeE`IJ^FPZF&SecNum=`N`TlK}IIFl0`4@u^`1E9W38y/Photostogo-332953.jpg
Deventer Up April 11th, 2003, 12:06 PM Wow, i wish i voted a 9,5 instead of a 9.
Dan April 11th, 2003, 06:42 PM I gave it a 9.5.
I think LA has one of the most photogenic skylines with the palm trees, the mountains in the background, and the beautiful skyscrapers of downtown.
Very fitting for a city famous for its motion picture industry.
BGT April 12th, 2003, 06:13 AM 9/10 good height/density
_tictac_ April 30th, 2003, 06:09 PM the skyline is just amazing, the very best in the world imho...10/10
alex3000 May 10th, 2003, 05:47 AM I miss Los Angeles.:(
Great skyline
9.5/10
mrparamo May 14th, 2003, 02:41 AM I know this skyline really well...it is quite impressive....9,1/10
VRWil May 17th, 2003, 02:02 AM To all the people who don't think LA's skyline represent its relative size. Can you say...seismic zone.
Oh! and BTW, the skyscaper boom that existed in the US in the 80s don't exist anymore.

I think the polls states rate the skyline not judge it by it's population? right....
I love the L.A. skyline....i give it a 9.99999/10.
i would give it a 10 but they didn't build the Figueroa Tower
Yeah, the Figueroa would really top off the skyline (proposed height was over 1200' or 1270'.)
VRWil is right, the reason why the skyline is not that big because LA is a major seismic zone. Who knows when the next big one might come. Why build them to be destroyed?
Due to the vast land of LA and the economy, I don't think skyscrapers are much of a demand right now.
I really want to see LA more urbanized.
TB May 27th, 2003, 05:43 PM though the skyline may be lacking when contrasted with the population, it still has an unforgivable dominance. i like it :)
9/10
Insomniac May 30th, 2003, 04:47 AM 8/10
Siddy_18 June 8th, 2003, 01:38 AM 8/10 tight skyline:)
BG918 June 11th, 2003, 07:20 AM I dig the L.A. skyline, one of my Top Ten in the country ahead of San Francisco and Minneapolis (#8). Lots of height and some interesting buildings placed apart nicely but still very dense. As the country's 2nd largest city the skyline should be better though, and it will in the future. Lively downtown area in parts and great natural setting with the mountains in the background. I think I like this skyline so much because I see it in movies all the time, and I love the Library Tower! 9/10
weirdo June 11th, 2003, 09:59 AM l.a. rocks. it's really one of the best skylines not only in the us but also in the world imo. the mountains add beauty to it.
Evergrey June 12th, 2003, 12:16 AM .........
pwright1 July 1st, 2003, 06:00 AM For a city its size with numerous downtowns I gave LA a 10. Years ago LA had height restrictions, so I think its come a long way. Downtown LA is pretty big when you're there in person, and California Plaza is awesome.
fox1 July 1st, 2003, 06:36 AM 7
Money Man July 26th, 2003, 07:20 AM Hey whatever to that article on Trump building a tower in L.A. But hey whatever. I LOVE LOS ANGELES!!!!!!!! it is my favortite city in North America and in the World because I love the different ethnic groups. We all know that Los Angeles is a bit small for having a population of four million poeple in its close permiters and 17 million including the county. Los Angeles is slowly densifying but were in for a big boom for skysrapers and restinals towers which defently be a good thing. :D :angel1:
Fabio August 19th, 2003, 06:11 AM 7.5/10
Great towers, but form its size it needs much more.
dumatod September 21st, 2003, 05:19 AM I like the tallest one, unique and mordern.
But great skyline is limited only CBD area.

Moscow's skyline is definetly interesting with the Kremilin and other historical/ important buildings to boot, but in terms of office buildings/ skyscrapers there is no way you can say that Moscow has more skyscrapers/ better skyline than Los Angeles.
Trances November 13th, 2003, 06:27 PM Library Tower gives the city a real center and evens out the weight of the other buidlings
Great Sky line jsut appears as cluster of talls in these shots
I had no idea the mountains where that close WOW

I think it is too small for a city that size.
Charropmw February 15th, 2004, 05:40 PM nice skyline i'm going there in 3 months soon.
Anvers30 April 8th, 2004, 07:10 PM LA needs more scrapers in CBD Area. Specificly in Civic Center Area. I hope is will be better soon. I still love there 8/10 :cheers1:
skylover April 8th, 2004, 07:37 PM The skyline though good doesn't live up to LA's image.
8/10
SoboleuS April 8th, 2004, 09:17 PM 8.5/10 Looks very good, but there are better skylines in US (and there's too many grey boxes :sly: )
arielbender May 4th, 2004, 06:35 AM Those of us who live and work here in LA love the skyline and know it well (it's the only sight to look at if you are caught in traffic on I-10, and we are often). We need at least one more building that approaches the height of the US Bank Tower, if for nothing else to draw attention away from our tallest building. It is one of the ugliest scrapers ever built, but it's an LA original :^)

The Messiah June 9th, 2004, 10:34 AM What do you rate LA's skyline?
A dense cluster with a lot of cool skyscrapers  9.0/10
154th Floor June 13th, 2004, 05:14 AM 5/10. Riddled with boxes. The only things that prevent this from getting 4/10 are US Bank, 777 Tower, and of course LA City Hall.

i actually like the library tower very much. ;) Downtown skyline can be visible in many parts of the city. Most of the time when i get lost, i will look for the downtown then i would be able to tell which direction i should go. :D
Facial July 12th, 2004, 09:59 PM I also like the US Bank Tower. I think it's one of a kind. 1000+feet, circular top, and a helipad on its roof! The Aon Center is one slim box.
I also look at the skyline when I drive on the I-5. At certain angles, the city appears to have nothing, but at other angles it looks large and dense.

LosAngelesSportsFan October 20th, 2004, 08:54 AM Hey guys, there are plenty of towers in the works (40 - 50 above 15 storys at the time of this typing, although mostly in the 20 - 35 story range, a few 55 - 65 story ones are in the pipeline with the convention center hotel, grand avenue development (one 65 story and a few others in that range) and two resedentials of 50 stories each, so the skyline will be totally different in 5 or so years. There are many good changes happening downtown and in a few years it will be the place to live play and work downtown and i cant wait.

GuilhermeC October 31st, 2004, 11:19 PM I quite liked it. I've seen some pictures though in the movie The Day After Tomorrow which looked really well! Just right for a city known for it's suburbs and not for it's downtown area.
Now with the Walt Disney Theatre I think many people will invest there!

Ok buddy and you are not on crack fro giving LA a 0?? what a retard. because fo eartquake codes the developers were limited on height for a long time. There are plenty of projects in the works and by 2010, Downtown LA will have 50 - 0 new towers (already approved and or proposed, from 15 - 65 stories) not to mention allt he new ones that will be proposed because of the remarkable turnaround in downtwon LA.

okay big guy your right, a o/10 is a little generous, i wish i could go into negatives. i dont care about earthquake codes, or whats in the works for 2010, i care about right now; and for the sencond largest urban metropolis in the united states, i demand better than this. los angeles sucks. im sorry for offending your home town, but this is just my opinion. by the way, your ali g icon is classic.
Blahb January 15th, 2005, 05:19 PM I rate it a 8.5/10. It's the best skyline in California. Second best on the West Coast.
THT-United January 17th, 2005, 04:53 PM For such a world-reknowned city, the skyline has less high-rises than even Penang... Come on LA, lets see more new skyscrapers in the coming years!
7/10
DJBoot4 February 25th, 2005, 08:39 PM Expect to see more tall ones in LA. Moving closer to the city is becoming more appealing to younger generations who do not see the point of fighting the freeways in and out of the suburbs. I like the way the CBD looks with a smoggy sunset.

andysimo123 February 25th, 2005, 11:13 PM Just bin having a look at gigs and I also want to see a band(Phantom Planet) who are playing in Anaheim in March so you never know I might be over there next month and the skyline gets a 8/10.
KulasKusgan February 26th, 2005, 01:56 AM not much skyline. 6
Jaybird March 9th, 2005, 04:51 PM 8/10. Doesn't seem to have as much density as Chicago or New York, but the skyline is tall, though, I like that.
Azn_chi_boi March 12th, 2005, 06:24 AM 8.5 because the city have earthquakes, but this skyline isnt that good for a city that is nearly 4 million. The mountain backgrounds makes it up though.
BHK25 March 12th, 2005, 02:09 PM LA should have a bigger skyline. and I really don't like the buildings that much. Seattle and San Francisco have way better looking skylines. 6.5/10
Ashok March 12th, 2005, 06:30 PM really nice, and compact... but it should be much larger for its size 8/10
MattSal March 12th, 2005, 06:42 PM Great, great city. 2nd Best skyline in California after San Francisco. An 8.5/10 from me.

Let's not get carried away now. LA has a ways to go before it gets anywhere near Chicago's level.
Manila-X January 13th, 2006, 05:05 AM LA happens to be one of my favorite skylines in North America! I like how you got clusters of 700m+ skyscrapers surrounded by low-rise sprawl. Not just that but you got cluster of mid-rise CBDs around the city like Long Beach, El Segundo, Century City and more!
9/10
But if it didn't have the US Bank Tower, 7.5/10!
nomarandlee January 13th, 2006, 09:14 AM All though I never think of LA as having an elite skyline there are same frames when I like it and think its pretty cool (though not one of my favories). Then there are other angles where I really almost don't like (which is rare for me to be say about any skyline).
Why does the CBD look so dense in some shots and then the talls so spread out (more then any other city save maybe Houston) from certain angles?

Yes this is the real Los Angeles shot,(this panorama is aprox. 17 miles in length) although this shot encompasses the (from right to left) Downtown, Mid/wilshire,Hollywood,Miricle mile,Beverly hills, Century city, Golden mile/Westwood, Brentwood, and Santa Monica area's
What is not visable, but significant, behind the Santa Monica mountains;
The Ventura blvd. corridor,North hollywood, Universal city, (with one of my favorite L.A. towers, 10 Univesal plaza, at 36 floors.) Burbank Media center, and way west, Warner center.
And on the same side of the hill, but behind this panorama,
The LAX, and El Segundo center,Long Beach, and harbor area,
Chicago and Los Angeles may have close to the same number of above 15 floor buildings, but in L.A., about 15 to 20% are above 500'and spread over a vast area.
Chicago, on the other hand is spread over a vast area also, but its tower development is more densely confined to the shoreline, and close to 60% of its buildings, are above 500'

Samuel64 February 1st, 2006, 01:57 AM Because l.a is so big it has other quite substantial 'skylines' in other areas. Main cbd is a great skyline!! 10/10
dmg1mn February 1st, 2006, 03:41 AM For most cities, it would be an excellent skyline, but for how huge LA is, it seems like it should be bigger. still gets an 8.5/10
amsang February 2nd, 2006, 05:05 AM 8/10
monstercity February 2nd, 2006, 12:03 PM In my opinion, it deserves nothing less than 10!!!

BillyBTall February 8th, 2006, 07:51 AM That panorama is STUNNING! That is what a city is meant to be, from the mountains to the sea! (and the Hollywood sign just clinches it all!)
10/10

kiddorbitz01 April 14th, 2006, 10:19 PM 5.5 :) Nothing too impressive,even Moscow's skyline is better :(
You have to be kidding!!HAHAHA Moscow? better skyline? you are retarded!!!
kiddorbitz01 April 14th, 2006, 10:26 PM [QUOTE=lotrfan55345]9/10, but WAYYY to small for a MEGACITY! Manila has the same amount of earthquakes as LA, and it has (more) skyscrapers!
Should have more condos/apartments, not just single family residences, like other megacities, and just...more.[/QUOTEThats because they dont care in Manila.
kiddorbitz01 April 14th, 2006, 10:36 PM okay big guy your right, a o/10 is a little generous, i wish i could go into negatives. i dont care about earthquake codes, or whats in the works for 2010, i care about right now; and for the sencond largest urban metropolis in the united states, i demand better than this. los angeles sucks. im sorry for offending your home town, but this is just my opinion. by the way, your ali g icon is classic. Why would anyone be an idiot just for being in LA? Anyways, nobody, including your precious cities that you have listed, care about your demands. Los Angeles is tight!!
kiddorbitz01 April 14th, 2006, 10:40 PM 6.5 ewwhh SO CAL So Cal is cool man what r you talkin about?lol
DaimosLA April 15th, 2006, 01:02 AM LA skyline is not really as dense, a bit scattered, you have downtown, Century City, Westwood, and the Mid-Wilshire/Miracle Mile district. Downtown area doesn't have really that much skyscrapers, it just depends on your vantage point.
I live here and I do find LA's skyline disappointing.

this city is awsome
crazyjoeda May 2nd, 2006, 07:51 AM L.A. has a nice skyline, but due to the fact that Los Angeles is such a huge city the skyline is a bit disappointing. I give it a 7/10.
diz May 2nd, 2006, 07:52 AM AHH! i love this city!

well this will probably make it better
Wezza May 3rd, 2006, 11:14 AM LA has a good skyline, but for a city of it's size, it's slightly disappointing. But saying that, i do realise it's in an earthquake zone, which would have alot to do with it. 7.5 for me. But if all those new projects go ahead, it will certainly rank higher.
Manila-X May 3rd, 2006, 11:42 AM I kinda like LA's skyline the way it is right now :)
Massive Attack May 3rd, 2006, 09:18 PM very recognizable and beautiful skyline, well defined and great buildings
though, i would assimilate the idea of being a 17 million city in it´s metropolitan aerea and the anger skyscraper fans from l.a. city must feel for not having a super skyline, dense and compact
the skyline has a 9 rating
the 17 million factor turns it on a 3
Joey313 May 7th, 2006, 05:22 AM i give it a 10 becouse it is in a earthquake zone and yet it can still build towards the sky.
TheOldMan May 7th, 2006, 05:48 AM i love the skyline. it just looks powerful. there are no spires or overly thin buildings. driving on the 110 freeway toward downtown is by far my favorite vantage point from which to view it.
Skyman May 8th, 2006, 06:13 PM 7/10
Bertez May 9th, 2006, 03:23 AM Looks pretty good.....7.5/10
Manila-X May 9th, 2006, 06:41 AM i love the skyline. it just looks powerful. there are no spires or overly thin buildings. driving on the 110 freeway toward downtown is by far my favorite vantage point from which to view it.
To me it's Griffith Park or any hill in Hollywood :)
