$65,000,000 and the house is only 10,000 sq. ft.? Too expensive.
Cheers!!

snufalufugus April 12th, 2005, 11:19 PM What a rip off. You can find a lot of houses in Belvedere with the same view of the city for only $20 million.

JARdan April 16th, 2005, 01:00 AM Wow, I used to live in the 8,000 Sqft Red Rose Tea Mansion here in Saint John. My parents bought it back in 1985 for near $300,000CDN and sold it for just slightly more 6 years later. It's now on the market for around $900,000CDN. The Red Rose Tea Mansion also has a lot of history since it was built by the founder of Red Rose Tea himself during the first few years of the 1900's. The lot is equally as large, and the house is almost the same size as the house in this thread.
LOL, 65mil, get real!
bay_area April 16th, 2005, 05:46 AM Yes but that's St John and this is Marin. The ONLY similarities are the dimensions of the house and lot-other then that they are polar opposites.
Soulbrotha April 16th, 2005, 05:48 AM i'll take it...where do i sign up?
Apoc April 17th, 2005, 08:47 AM Holy crap!....what a view and what a price!! :eek2:
ADL April 17th, 2005, 09:23 PM only 65,000,000?
M. Brown April 23rd, 2005, 09:00 AM WAY TOO MUCH! Way too small for the price I think.
Wallbanger April 23rd, 2005, 09:28 AM Hey I have a view like that! Except its of San Diego... and there isnt really water, but a field.. and there isnt really a skyline.. but some trees. And its not really a view, more of a backyard..
LAuniverse April 23rd, 2005, 10:31 AM That can't be 1 acre can it? Something has to be up with it (in addition to the view) for it to be $65m. Even for Belvedere that's over the top.
sequoias April 23rd, 2005, 07:17 PM Haha, try Bill gate's house. His property/house is worth $125 million in 2005 dollars, no I'm not joking. It's 48,000 sq ft house on a big property, I don't remember how many acres.
NWGeorgian April 23rd, 2005, 09:52 PM That house is nice, a bit expensive, but nice. Looks similar to one on HGTV a few months ago.
atlrvr April 23rd, 2005, 11:21 PM Hmmmm.....does it have a dock for my yacht?
kota16 April 26th, 2005, 05:05 AM Give me that house, and I will come and live in USA.
philip May 5th, 2005, 11:49 AM $65 million for 1 acre in San Francisco with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge is not overpriced.
San Francisco is the city with the highest property value in the US, even higher than New York.
Monkey May 5th, 2005, 12:19 PM Give me that house, and I will come and live in USA.
And what would we gain in return, kota? :)
hellobubba May 11th, 2005, 04:03 AM damn paparazzi!
get outta my yard!!
LosAngelesSportsFan May 11th, 2005, 06:08 AM Looks Like that house has company. in the Hot property section of Sundays LA TIMES, it noted a Beverly Hills House that will come on the market soon and it will be for $65 million as well.
$65 million: That's not a misprint
A new Beverly Hills-area home on 23-plus acres has come on the market at $65 million, a high for current listings in L.A. County.
The estate includes a two-story, 30,700-square-foot main house, an 1,800-square-foot guesthouse, a 6,000-square-foot carriage house or 16-car garage, an 1,800-square-foot guardhouse, a 1,000-plus-square-foot gatehouse and a 12,500-square-foot spa building with indoor and outdoor pools and a nightclub or a ballroom. There are also 6.5-plus acres of gardens and city-to-ocean views.
The home, which is about 85% completed, is ready for cosmetic and interior design specifications. Parisian designer Alberto Pinto prepared interior drawings at the seller's cost of about $3 million.
Ernie Carswell and Judy Hanauer at Coldwell Banker, Beverly Hills North, have the listing.
ncvegas May 12th, 2005, 03:34 AM the freakin garage is around 3 times as big as my house! that is insane! nice views though.
Caliguy2005 May 14th, 2005, 11:32 PM Here in California, alot of small packages can have high price tags on them....
It's like California is becoming The Japan of America in terms of housing prices.
WAY TOO MUCH! Way too small for the price I think.
Skopie May 15th, 2005, 11:52 PM Haha, try Bill gate's house. His property/house is worth $125 million in 2005 dollars, no I'm not joking. It's 48,000 sq ft house on a big property, I don't remember how many acres.
48,000 square foot :O Who needs that much space? My house in barely 1000.
65 million does seem very over priced considering its size, even with the views, seems like a publicity stunt by the estate agent to get some interest in the property.
I never knew how expsensive property was in San Francisco, it's insane.
bay_area May 16th, 2005, 07:06 PM Haha, try Bill gate's house. His property/house is worth $125 million in 2005 dollars, no I'm not joking. It's 48,000 sq ft house on a big property, I don't remember how many acres.
haha, there are lots of houses worth over 100 Million Dollars-but they are not for sale.
Larry Ellison's house in Woodside is estimated to be worth $200 Million. Charles Schwab's house in Atherton is estimated to be worth $150 Million. The Filoli Estate in Woodside is also worth over $100 Million.
There are others, but these are off the top of my head.
Nice try though.
spyguy May 23rd, 2005, 03:43 AM Yeah, but Larry Ellison is one crazy guy.
kota16 May 23rd, 2005, 04:51 PM And what would we gain in return, kota? :)
A homely person who admires a nice view. :)
deadmaker7 May 27th, 2005, 02:48 PM Haha, try Bill gate's house. His property/house is worth $125 million in 2005 dollars, no I'm not joking. It's 48,000 sq ft house on a big property, I don't remember how many acres.
but I bet it dosen't have those SF views! :D
Palal June 5th, 2005, 08:24 AM Haha, try Bill gate's house. His property/house is worth $125 million in 2005 dollars, no I'm not joking. It's 48,000 sq ft house on a big property, I don't remember how many acres.
Cut the power to his property and it'll cut his property value in half ;)
pwright1 June 5th, 2005, 08:36 AM I think this house is sold.
PotatoGuy June 11th, 2005, 02:59 AM omg, what a view. i stil think its too expensive though, i would never spend that much money on a house even if i had the money
PotatoGuy June 11th, 2005, 03:02 AM [QUOTE=Caliguy2005]Here in California, alot of small packages can have high price tags on them....QUOTE]
hehe yea, houses are insane. a 3 bedroom, 1200+ sq. ft. house where i live can go well over half a million dollars, sometimes into the 700's, its insane. and i dont even live in the expensive area of orange county
612bv3 March 27th, 2006, 06:07 AM Didn't someone just bought a house in the Pacific Heights for 65 million?
CBR3 March 27th, 2006, 05:53 PM Can I get no money down financing on this??? If so, I'll take it!
Xusein March 27th, 2006, 07:02 PM Great House, but not worth 65 Million dollars...that's just too much. The views of SF doesn't make it worth it.
612bv3 May 17th, 2006, 06:36 AM It's not the most expensive but this seems a little outrageous.
This cottage is currently on sale in San Francisco for $399,000. It's describe as "Great cottage, cute, bright and charming. Softwood floors. Front Yard fenced in ...Great investor unit or 1st time buyer!"

Westsidelife May 17th, 2006, 08:09 AM Another one in LA that 'accompanies' the original one:
This was featured in the LA Times a couple of months ago. A 12,000-square-foot home and three guesthouses are perched on this 7-acre lot in Malibu’s Paradise Cove Bluffs. A private road leads to the beach.

Westsidelife May 17th, 2006, 08:11 AM Btw, the home with the view of the bay is incredible. I would kill for that house. But this is SSC, so I'm thinking most of you would prefer a more urban lifestyle???
LosAngelesSportsFan May 17th, 2006, 10:17 AM New Most Expensive. Its in the OC and its $75.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a278/Imyurdada/2006-05-portabello2.jpg
From Curbed LA...
House hunters rejoice. We've finally found the house that your neighbor can't top. The OC Register reports that a $75 million beach-side mansion shaped like a seashell and named after a mushroom has gone on sale for a price of $75 million. Yes, that's $75 million dollars American.
The "Portabello" mansion in Corona del Mar, according to the listing agent John McMonigle's Web site, features ocean views from most rooms, and is designed like a nautilus shell.
Other features include a two-story grotto with a pool, two spas, a swim-up bar, tunnel slide, poolside lounge room and barbecue area.
It also boasts an "entertainment level" basement with a bowling alley, art deco theater, automotive museum, café and full exercise facility.
According to the home's title report and Zillow, the home's estimated value is $29 million, based on land of $13 million, and improvements of $16 million. So for that $75 million price tag we also assume that there's a family of magical, wish granting dolphins living in the grotto and the faucets have a spigot for Cristal.
From the OC Register..
New high: $75 million home
O.C. house price highest ever in state.
By JEFF COLLINS
The Orange County Register
This ultramodern 30,000-square-foot Corona del Mar mansion had the highest residential property assessment in Orange County at the end of 2005, when its assessed value was listed at $29 million.
BRUCE CHAMBERS, THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER
For sale: modern Corona del Mar beauty, featuring state-of-the art electronics, a water treatment system, three pools, two spas, eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.
Oh, and a bowling alley, vintage movie theater, café, gymnasium, auto museum, wine cellar behind a bank-vault door and just under an acre of beachfront land.
Asking price?
$75 million.
That makes Portabello, as the mansion is known, one of the three most expensive residences currently for sale in America.
Donald Trump's Maison de L'Amitie in Palm Beach, Fla., is going for $125 million. Three Ponds Farm Estate in Bridgehampton, N.Y., has been on the market for more than a year at $75 million.
And so the 22,000-square-foot Brighton Road home, which went on the market last week, is tied for the second-highest asking price in the nation – and is the most expensive in California.
"It's not surprising because (Orange County) is a world-class destination," said Rick Goodwin, publisher of Ultimate Homes magazine, which documents the 1,000 most-expensive homes for sale. Orange County, like Palm Beach and the Hamptons, is "where people with money want to be."
County records list the owner as Frank W. Pritt III, founder of Seattle software maker Attachmate Corp. and an avid car collector.
Pritt purchased three adjacent beachfront lots in the Cameo Shores area for less than $12.5 million, consolidated them into a single tract in 1998 and launched a three-year effort to build his "soft contemporary" mansion.
"It's the most exciting (house) I've done," said Brion Jeannette, the Newport Beach architect who designed the house in close consultation with Pritt.
Jeannette said he was surprised by the asking price, but noted that the home, ideal for a large family and for informal entertaining, "was not inexpensive to build."
County property assessors estimated that the house alone is worth at least $16 million and the land is worth more than $13 million, for a total assessed value of $29.6 million, highest residential assessment in the county. But because of Proposition 13, tax assessments usually are well below a home's market value.
John McMonigle, the real estate agent signed to market the home, said the price tag is based on the estate's replacement cost: Around $45 million for the land and about $33 million for the home, at $1,500 per square foot.
The neighborhood is home to some of Orange County's wealthiest residents, including Broadcom Corp. co-founder Henry Samueli.
"I'm very confident we'll sell it, and I'm investing a significant amount of money in that belief," McMonigle said. "We're receiving quality interest already."
Interested buyers include local high-tech moguls and a European financier.
Jeannette said Pritt gave the home its name because its curving white roof resembles the portobello mushroom.
A pool on the upper deck includes a whirlpool spa in the center with a clear, plastic bubble on the bottom, so people below can see into it like an aquarium.
A 360-degree tunnel slide loops from the second level into the pool below.
"It's certainly a one-of-a-kind property," said Goodwin, the Ultimate Homes publisher.
Will the Portabello property fetch its asking price? If it does, it would be a record.
Goodwin said the highest price ever paid for a home in the United States was $70 million. The Associated Press reported a California record-topping $50 million. And county records show that at least $29 million was paid for a home in Laguna Beach.
"It's really like selling a piece of art," Goodwin said. "What makes it special, on top of all the bells and whistles, is its three oceanfront lots in one of the most expensive waterfront areas of the country."
I-275westcoastfl May 18th, 2006, 05:21 AM It's not the most expensive but this seems a little outrageous.

lol what a ripoff and all the houses around it are nicer, maybe its time to move somewhere else lol. For that much you can get a decent house here, just thought a comparison would be nice, seriously and we think prices are outrageous here over there thats just sad lol. Now i know why californians move here because they sell just about any kind of house there and get something way better here.

Good for you. I assume you want a medal for that.
