OffPeakClassic8 April 12th, 2005, 07:59 PM Today's thunderstorm was tremendous. I was at Bukit Merah vicinity and even witnessed a horizontal lightning, probably 1-1.5km long striking through the clouds.
About your photos, great shots! Once in a lifetime.
heirloom April 12th, 2005, 09:34 PM wow... how did you capture lightning?
heirloom April 12th, 2005, 09:37 PM i was about to go cycling at 730 but was held back by all that noise and light. but it didnt rain at all so went out at 945 :)
Cliff April 13th, 2005, 01:49 AM Yes, I noticed, it was surreal, with lightning every few seconds. Yeah, how did you capture the lightining?
VERY NICE PICS!!!!WOW!
hyacinthus April 13th, 2005, 02:23 AM Cool Shots! Can see the lightning forked out beautifully!
I wanted to take lightning shots too yesterday... but, I am staying too low to see any lightning... :(
Can't feel any tremor too... which is a good thing... :)
RafflesCity April 13th, 2005, 03:40 AM oh my! so dramatic! :eek2:
the lightning yesterday was ferocious! kept striking every few seconds with lots of thunder!
Great work Pengui..I guess you were expecting the lightning when you took those pics :)
babystan03 April 13th, 2005, 03:54 AM Wah thats cool.......:eek::cool:
Pengui April 13th, 2005, 05:13 AM Hehe thanks ^^
I kept shooting as many photographs as my camera could, those shots are the best out of about 40 ;-) I first set a correct exposure to capture the natural light (ie the light from the city and the sky without any lightning), and then I kept shooting with a 4s exposure time (that is about every 10s considering how slow my camera is ^^ ).
Then I was hoping to see some lightning strikes in the 4s ;-)
The thickness of the strike on the last shot is not due to overexposure, they were really very very bold ! I also witnessed some horizontal strikes, and some much more good looking than those, but couldn't catch them ;-)
ahlipp April 13th, 2005, 05:32 AM first pic at the bottom...freaking awesome man!!!!!
heirloom April 13th, 2005, 06:43 AM i wonder what those bolts of lightning struck.

heirloom April 13th, 2005, 07:33 AM huh no i mean.. like did it hit a tree? or a body of water.. hopefully not anyone.
Pengui April 13th, 2005, 07:58 AM If the last one hit someone, he must be roasted like on a BBQ ! ^^

heirloom April 13th, 2005, 08:05 AM it happens like every year or so i think :/

I noticed this thread was opened by Pengui in April of last year. Is this the stormy season in Singapore?
ignoramus May 18th, 2006, 02:23 PM Its easy to forget that we live in a very active weather zone... I certainly did!
Pengui May 19th, 2006, 05:07 AM Eh, that ain't all that humble, babystan! :applause:

I don't know, better ask the locals but for the last one month or so there was a lot :-) Almost every day.
Now it seems to have calmed down.
RafflesCity May 19th, 2006, 05:12 AM Yes...it was pretty stormy last month.
Many times the day starts off scorching hot, but quickly darkens in the mid-afternoon to evening with a huge thunderstorm.
You know when a thunderstorm is coming...the air smells different
bruin787 May 26th, 2006, 05:20 AM sorry. its not as dramatic. but i took this pic last year.

RafflesCity May 27th, 2006, 06:25 AM Did the dark skies strike you as dramatic though?
Pengui May 27th, 2006, 08:40 AM I believe it can be quite dramatic if you're about to take off... ^ ^
bruin787 May 28th, 2006, 01:49 AM i thought it was absolutely beautiful. i had never seen rain from a storm falling that clearly before from afar. it was wonderful. its hard to tell from the picture, but the skies were actually only partly cloudy, so i wasnt too worried about taking off. seeing how active the region is, i know my pilots had probably seen a lot worst.
i was rewarded with this on takeoff...
