Reading the papers this morning, it wasn't as bad as I expected. Liverpool fans were pelted with flare's, stones, bottles in the ground with minimal protection from the stewards and Carabinieri. But that's par for the course when you're a Liverpool fan in Italy. It was leaving the ground that worried me the most (memories of Roma in '84...shudder!), but most fans were bussed straight back to the airport and arrived home in one piece:cheers:

I was in the Copplehouse when England got an away draw against Italy. Can't recall the decade, century or competition (pissed, obviously), but the place was f*****g mental. All I recall was Liverpool's (at the time) Paul Ince being an England Monster on that day.

Blab, loads of mates from Canny Farm, but most of them have moved out. See a couple in the Black Angus from time to time. The other lot take over the back room in the Sandon pub on match days. Don't see them that often nowadays.

Brilliant result. Still shaking now - 8 hours later. I think Dudek only had one save to make, we defended brilliantly. Carragher was awesome, Troare and Finnan were excellent too. Chelsea keeper should have been sent off for foul on Baros. Penalty and sending off would have been better for us, non of this was it in, wasn't it shite. For that poor decision Chelsea were lucky. I was trying to keep an eye on the daughter when the final whistle went. The reason being when the goal was given, I was pushed forward from behind and nearly went flying and the daughter was pulled backwards almost falling off her seat. She hurt her lip but she wasn't bothered as we'd scored.

Former Liverpool target Rafael van der Vaart has handed in a transfer request at Ajax.

The Dutch international was targeted for some time by former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier with a proposed transfer falling through shortly before he was given the bullet. Earlier this season Van der Vaart admitted that he had spoken to Liverpool executives about a possible move with nobody at Anfield coming out and rubbishing his claims.

I is understood that the 22-year-old is a target of German side Hamburg but Manchester United and Arsenal have previously sniffed around him. Barcelona were always believed to be his preferred destination so it will be interesting to see how they respond to the developments.

Eplaining what had gone down, Ajax Director Arie van Eijde said: "We know that he doesn't want to sign a new contract and through his agent he has informed us that he wants to leave Ajax. I know through Lerby (his agent) that Van der Vaart went to Hamburg last weekend.

"He informed this on Monday morning. There is no official interest yet, as far as I can tell. Up until now no club has called us with the news they want to sign Van der Vaart, so we sit back and wait for things to happen."

Van der Vaart has just a year left on his existing deal and with Rafa having tried to sign him while at Valencia, you can expect him to register an interest, if he hasn't done already.

A mate of mine who is going has a friend in the travel business. He has heard that if all the bookings for flights and accomodation are taken up, there will be an estimated 100,000 Liverpool fans in Istanbul.

I find this hard to believe and I would imagine many bookings were placed before match tickets were purchased and many would probably cancel if they couldn't get a match ticket. If they have booked under the same conditions as my mate, they would end up travelling with no ticket. He had to pay in full and was told there would be no refund if he had to cancel.

We'll have 20/25,000 scousers and 10/15,000 from ireland and Europe there. i'd go without a ticket, it'll be a piece of piss buying out there. Milan will be bringing 15,000 tops.

As for the powder keg, we're not Leeds, Mancs or Chelsea, the Turks are looking forward to us coming, we've had no problems with Galatasary in fact the relationship is pretty good. Fenerbache and Besiktas fans are also stating their support for Liverpool in the final.

As for Milan, they're not gobshites in the Juve, Lazio, Roma, Fiorentina mould. Milan and Internazionale are more like Liverpool and Everton than arseholes. LIVERPOOL will hold their Champions League victory parade less than 24 hours after the final.

The homecoming procession, to be staged only if Liverpool win, would go ahead when thousands of fans were still in Turkey.

A route has already been finalised after meetings with council officials and police chiefs with the tour likely to begin shortly after the team arrives back from Istanbul.

A senior council official today told the ECHO plans were at an advanced stage to hold a parade on the Sunday after the match - until Liverpool intervened and brought it forward to the Thursday.

Steven Kelly, editor of Liverpool fanzine Through The Wind And Rain, is one of many fans who will still be travelling back from Istanbul.

He said: "I would rather be at the match and miss the parade, but it shouldn't come to this.

"If the players and the club want to go around the city with half the fans still in Turkey, that's up to them.

"Things like this undermine people's loyalty to the club."

Season ticket holder Phil Connolly, from Old Swan, said: "I'm on an official trip and I'll be at a Turkish airport on Thursday evening.

"Surely the club has to take into account that people are paying thousands of pounds and travelling halfway around the world to support Liverpool and the least we deserve is a chance to welcome them home.

"Even the lads on day trips won't have been back that long and most would probably be in bed.

"It is a bank holiday weekend after the final, so why couldn't they plan it for the Sunday?"

I've just about come down after last nights epic match, like most other Reds fans I thought at half time just give us a goal to cheer and limit the damage. No question Milan were excellent 1st half, they attacked Traore right from the off and it worked brilliantly.

If anything, I'd say the coverage yesterday was disgustingly shocking compared to the gushing the entire media did when United won it in 99. I don't think it's Manc bias, but it was clearly a case of red bastards high up, pimping United. That was seen as the greatest achievement ever. I got back from turkey yesterday what a match it was unreal i was so lucky to be there. oh and by the way turkey has some of the most ugly high rises you'll ever see.

I thought their treble was blown out of all proportion. The real treble, which to this day has still never been achieved, is the domestic treble. And besides, Liverpool's performance this season has been the epitome of football and what it's about. Raw emotion, knowing you're not the best but fighting for victory and never giving up, everything that went into your cup run was Roy Of The Rovers stuff. In the 70s it would've been celebrated this way. Yet now in the days of "oh, you may've won but you'll never be the best", Liverpool's triumph is nowt more than another trophy.

Good point Dngr8. There seems to have been a culture shift- now, some foreign bloke comes a long with a billion quid and the team he owns is just expected to win everything. What Liverpool have done have restored faith in people like myself who were just getting sick of it being purely about money. They worked hard and put their hearts into it. There was even, I dare say, a bit of luck involved. But that's what sport, and life are all about- passion, and trying to achieve what appears to be impossible.

Exactly. Not even the most ardent Scouser would claim Liverpool are the best team in Europe. And we all know that except for Arsenal, no other club should've been playing in the "CHampions League" this season. But the fact of the matter is it's now a multi team knockout competition and whoever wins does so by being the best on the night. Liverpool have somehow managed to restore romance and purity to football with this victory, but it saddens me greatly that the naysayers will always be the most vocal.

Football is a game about emotion. Olympiakos was about a captain saving his home club, the team he supported since he was a child. And I think even if Gerrard moves, he deserves a fucking medal because this season, even with the doubts over his future, he's been a classic example of what football is. He plays for Liverpool and Liverpool only. He, like so many newer generation stars, are primarily interested in winning honours and being a great footballer. But what I like about Gerrard is he wants to win the hnours and be recognised as the player he is whilst he's at Liverpool. He deeply loves the club and always will.

Yet you have Rooney, Ferdinand, Defoe and all the others coming through, they're in the game for individual honours. Gerrard is a class apart and I couldn't have wished for a better player to lift the trophy.

As soon as we got the first goal it was our cup, the Italians lost belief, the Milan fans sank.

Scousers United!!

This week has summed up what Liverpool FC and the people of Liverpool are all about.

Belief, defiance, resiliance, courageous, emotional and almost super human.

Football is about the fans, for that we deserved the big cup on its own, tens of thousands of ragged arse scousers and Irish irregulars marching across goat fields like some scene from Moses, when we thought the cup was lost at half time instead of getting moody and violent a rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone reignited the masses and lifted the team. As soon as we got the first goal it was our cup, the Italians lost belief, the Milan fans sank.

You can keep your roubles, your Glazers, your prima donnas, this is LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB.

I got back to Sheffield about 11:30 last night (the roads were chocker coming out, so we decided on the M58/M6/A580/M62/M1 option). Had an exam 9am this morning. I don't care if I failed, I saw the European Cup on Queens Drive, just 10 minutes walk from my house. Bliss.

How else would you describe it Accy?

We beat the English and Italian Champions then fought back from 0-3 against AC Milan, that's right AC MILAN.

Reds fan Lee sneaks into glory picture

THE ECHO can today reveal the Reds' new recruit.

Anfield teenager Lee Dames pulled off one of the achievements of Wednesday night in the Ataturk stadium by sneaking on to the Champions League final pitch for an hour with his Liverpool heroes.

The 19-year-old former Tranmere Rovers trainee posed with the players as they clustered around the cup on the field in Istanbul.

He even managed to lay his hands on the precious silverwear.

Liverpool players simply nudged each other and laughed, before wrapping arms around the imposter as they posed for the best team photo of their lives.

Lee, who plays semi-professional football for Burscough, said he had not been able to sleep since his brush with glory.

The beaming Reds fan took up his place beside Sami Hyypia, draped his arm around Didi Hamann, punched the air in delight and danced a jig of delight with the players.

"I just had to be with the team. I grabbed a tracksuit top from a steward then a jacket from the dugout. It was unbelievably brilliant.

"Some of the players were nudging each other about me and thought it was funny. I am on a complete high and haven't slept.

"It was tremendous enough to win the cup, but to get involved like that was the icing on the cake."

Back in Sam's Bar in city centre Liverpool, his father Paul watched in disbelief as TV cameras captured his son putting his arm around Jamie Carragher as he was interviewed.

The 48-year-old from Toxteth said: "I spotted him and thought: 'That's not my son, is it?' I was flabbergasted.

"I just knew he would be doing his best to be with the players. I could see him jumping up and down on the pitch. I couldn't believe my eyes.

" He always has been Liverpool mad. The phone has not stopped ringing, because people have spotted him in the newspapers or on the television. He is a cheeky little bugger."

Paul is under orders to keep every newspaper with Lee's photograph in it, so he can relive it when he returns home. Lee and his friends travelled back to Bulgaria yesterday and will fly home to Liverpool on Tuesday.

Ha! I remember seeing him on TV and wondering who he was.

Hehehe, was he the fella who ran up to Carra when being interviewed and shouted something along the lines of "Come on you fucking red bastards!"

Anyway, somebody sent me this. You all know me well enough to know it's tongue in cheek.

Anyone see the footage they showed on ITV last night of Carragher telling Dudek to "do it like Grobelaar"? It's well funny - Carra's yelling at Dudek, waving his arms around and saying "put them off, put them off", and Dudek's just nodding like he hasn't a clue what he's going on about. Fucking worked though dinnit??!!

Alright, don't get all snooty with me. It's a bloody joke man, learn to laugh at yourself. If you've ever watched SoccerAm, I'm sure you would remember the stereotypical Manc they had on who had a football "Wonderwall" with footy memoribilia all over and he'd be dancing like Bez and being a right Manc tit. It was the best thing I'd ever seen, regardless of the fact it made Mancs look like tits. It's comedy, not a judgement.

Aye, don't get all arsey and start getting wound up by Scouse jokes. They may not be right, but it's what makes you lot so loved, you realise life is shit and you just get on with it and don't get upset over silly things.
