View Full Version : Deaf in one ear...
Blunther April 15th, 2005, 09:48 AM I've woke up this morning completely and utterly deaf in my left ear. Can't hear a peep. It's happened before when waking for a few seconds, but a quick wiggle of the ear sorted it. I've washed the bugger out, stuck a cotton wool bud in, to no avail.
What's going on???
Medo April 15th, 2005, 09:53 AM Could be anything. Spider in ear, wax build-up, malignant brain tumour, go see a doctor.

Probably some sort of infection. I would see a doctor about that, he'll probably give you some drops or something to put in your ear. Don't worry, I'm sure it's nothing serious.
Scarecrow April 15th, 2005, 11:22 AM Do you have your finger in it? :?
Toadboy April 15th, 2005, 11:39 AM You're turning into a layydeeeee, they hear what they want, when they want.
Good ear, bad ear.
From now on you will be known as Bill Oddie (Bill Odd-Ear).
JDRS April 15th, 2005, 06:51 PM I doubt it's serious if it goes after a wiggle.
caw123 April 15th, 2005, 07:04 PM Hmmm. That is odd.
I have tinnitus of the ears, and it happens about once a day. A whistling noise in my ear kind of 'clicks' on.
kids April 15th, 2005, 07:14 PM if you've had a cold it could be katar affecting it.

I actually think I might have that. I've heard a kind of whistling noise many times before but only when it's generally quiet. Not everyday but often.
Accura4Matalan April 15th, 2005, 08:26 PM You probably wanked too hard. It happens...
caw123 April 15th, 2005, 09:38 PM It would be quite unusual for anything to land in his ear though eh?
Scarecrow April 16th, 2005, 11:51 AM Have you seen Something about Mary? He 'came' close in that one.....
alphaxion April 16th, 2005, 01:35 PM you do know that putting a cotton bud in your ear is bad? the fibres of the cotton come off whilst you use it and they collect up to the point where you'll end up with a big ball of cotton and wax that require being removed. Also, the more you stuff things into your ears the more wax is produced, so it becomes a viscious circle.
I ended up getting kinda deaf in one ear cause of a cold - it felt like someone had their finger in my ear all the time cause all the sound was muffled as I heard it... eventually cleared up after a week or so.
clarky April 16th, 2005, 05:17 PM Thats probably a grub/maggot in your ear blunther. This happened to my mate.Stick some tape over you ear.The bug will sufficate and try to escape and move to the outside of your ear the use tweezers.
eusebius April 16th, 2005, 07:02 PM or perform a van gogh act
just sweat, eat raw leeks, garlic, sprinkle whiskey and pepper over it
I even survived Mogwai and Sebadoh without any damage done

Forget tape, spray some lynx in your ear and light it up!

i think cotton wool buds are more bad becasue you push the wax down into your ear. If you push too hard obviously you'll damage the ear or just completely block the gap between the ear drum and the outside world. you could try warming your ear up in hot water - eg under the bath - or on TV they've been advertising some new spray that they probably sell in boots.
Monkey April 17th, 2005, 02:43 AM Otex Ear Drops are meant to be very good.
eusebius April 17th, 2005, 02:58 AM You'd better see a real doctor to decide on this, Blunther.

If that's in my earhole then suicide's the only option I think.
It's still playing up. Stone deaf until about three hours after I wake up. I should see a doctor but I don't like going.
mk61 April 18th, 2005, 10:56 AM Do you have a cold Blunther? Because if its clearing up after you wake up, that probably means that you ear is filling up with mucus or something as you sleep. Obviously once you're awake and upright its draining off.

I do have a bitch of a cold at the moment. I also have a sort of perpetual cold, where I sneeze my nads off until about 1 o clock, then it's fine till I get home, when I have one or two more snezing fits.
Oh the joys of being a Blunther.
Scarecrow April 18th, 2005, 03:08 PM Get an allergy test. Do you have a job sniffing kittens os something similar? :?
Blunther April 18th, 2005, 03:37 PM I'm allergic to dust and hair.
Which is a shame 'cos I live in a dusty house and am hairy.
Scarecrow April 18th, 2005, 04:00 PM At least you're not allergic to snot. That would be unfortunate....
Blunther April 18th, 2005, 04:23 PM The more I snot the more I sneeze, and even more snot pours forth.
Maybe I am... :(

caw123 April 18th, 2005, 05:31 PM I'm allergic to cats and thick carpets, because you wanted to know.
Kampflamm April 18th, 2005, 07:54 PM Use the shower head to clear out your ear.
Scarecrow April 18th, 2005, 08:48 PM Don't. You'll likely inject your head with legionella that grows in the shower head itself.
Noostairz April 19th, 2005, 12:05 AM being a hearing-imparied hypochondriac i'm interested - you cured yet blunth?

Nah. It were great this morning though. Right ear in the pillow, left ear up in the air. Didn't hear me alarm. Woke up to the missus punching me in the back :\
A good wiggle fixed it this morning sooner than it would usually clear up.
I'm getting used to it now. Sadly, it's becoming a friend.
AndrewC April 19th, 2005, 11:51 AM oh dear - get to the doctor now
Kampflamm April 19th, 2005, 02:38 PM Ask someone to snort out your ear drum.
Blunther April 26th, 2005, 03:39 PM Well it's been stone deaf now since Friday night, apart from the odd bout of tinnitus. Went to the chemist at lunchtime and they've given me some drops (urea hydrogen peroxide - piss and bleach? Lovely  ).
Just to keep you all updated, 'cos I'm sure you're enthralled.
