This beautiful granite and sandstone Beaux -Arts building built in 1897 served as the seat of the county government until the late 1950's when the majority of offices moved to the City-County Building a few blocks over. The building fell into disrepair in 70's and 80's as the county was no longer able to upkeep the building and considered demolishing the building. Thankfully the county decided to sell it the in 1984; the county leases space and currently is its largest tenant. Probably the most stunning feature building is the two statues Victory and Progress which overlook the entrance.

The buildings' exterior is currently being renovated. The interior was refurbished in 1987 shortly after the county sold it.

10. Precisely the kind of beauty no longer available in America because we no longer build it.

Great building. I am glad they could save at least this building from demolition, really sad how Detroit erased so much of its past though !

beautiful building! I just don't like the changes done to the tip of the dome...it's less elegant than the original. 9/10
